Rating: Summary: engaging vampire tale Review: American Tara Mason comes to Paris to visit her ailing grandpapa, but becomes worried about him when he spins a tale that she believes is born of senility. He insists he is a member of the Alliance, a group dedicated to fighting evil including vampires. Grandpapa is upset because he believes that an archeological dig in a churchyard has liberated a deadly vampiress. On her grandpapa's insistence, Tara tries to sneak into the crypts of the church, but runs into Brent Malone. When they hear screams, Brent knows his worse nightmare has occurred as the diggers have freed Louisa on an unsuspecting world. Brent cannot persuade Tara of the existence of vampires, but she wonders why he and grandpapa act like old acquaintances. As Tara and Brent fall in love and he vows to keep her safe, evil approaches, ready to devour anyone in its' path including a skeptical American visitor. The latest tale in Shannon Drake's vampire series, REALM OF SHADOWS, is an exciting novel that returns key characters from previous books in significant roles in this story. A vast ensemble tells the tale so that readers will need a scorecard to keep track of whose whom. Still the plot hooks fans wondering if Tara will accept the truth about the evil that stalks her and her family or remain a skeptic in spite of her love for true believers like grandpapa and Brent. Though the ending required a long dissertation to tie loose ends together, paranormal romance readers will relish the appearance of favorites in the latest battle between good and evil as a background to love. Rating: Summary: Verrry Intriguing Review: Before I bought this book I read all the posted reviews. I recommend that you read this book for yourself. It's great. Now if you are expecting a Maggie/Sean, Lucian/Jade kind of thing this isn't it. I'm not one to spoil the book but Brent and Tara are so different. Brent is more human than supernatural. He has his foibles but in those he has strength. I especially enjoyed reading about his past. It was perhaps the most enthralling part of this book. Tara is a case too. She believes but she doesn't. I think this makes her human. I was better able to relate to her. She has a mind like any red blooded woman does. If she didn't we'd think she was a wimp. Shannon Drake has started to find a rhythm finally. There were a few questions that this book brought up. I hope she reconciles these issues in the next book. I will admit she tried to tie up the loose ends a little funny but she does that in all the books. Fellow readers enjoy this novel and the others. And remember this is not an Ann Rice novel. Enjoy.....
Rating: Summary: Not the best, but better than most! Review: First off I'd like to say that I'm not quite finished with the book yet, but I'm getting there...! *ggg* I have read the other three books in this series and I loved each and every one. That is why I'm a little disappointed in Realm of Shadows. It lacks the sizzle and suspense the other three books boasted and the characters avid readers of Ms. Drakes novels have come to love are indeed very poorly drawn. Lucian - my one true love (LOL) captivated me right from the start of BENEATH A BLOOD RED MOON and even reading about him in DEEP MIDNIGHT had me giggling with glee, but this time "meeting" him again is a little disappointing. He's the King of Vampires for pity's sake!!!! But all in all the book isn't that bad and I can hardly wait to get home from work today, so I can finally finish it. Too bad we will have to wait another tormenting year for the next book in this truly exceptional series. If you like vampire novels and perhaps have read the other three in this series (Beneath a Blood Red Moon, When Darkness Falls, Deep Midnight), then I can only recommend reading REALM OF SHADOWS too.
Rating: Summary: Interesting . Review: I bought this book several weeks ago,and it sat on my to be read pile. I read several low reviews and I decided to give it a shot. I really enjoyed this book, the whole protector of the Allience was an interesting take on the Vampire and Werewolf genre. Tara and Ann are cousins and both are grandaughters to Jacques DeVant a now American and French protector. Ann sends for Tara her American cousin and both girls are thrown into a whole new situation. I have never read her earlier books so I never met Lucian or Jade, two very interesting indiviuals but Brent was a very hunky and interesting person, and I'm so glad that he and Tara got together at the end. Please give this book a chance you might really enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: Is there a point? Review: I consider myself an avid reader and love the vampire genre. I'm also a fan of historical romance and romance in general. This book was so confusing. I could never tell who was having what dream or what thoughts. I kept with it though, thinking it had to get better and that some questions should get answered soon. Well, you practically have to wait until the last chapter - the epilouge. And then things are wrapped up so fast. It's almost like the author didn't know how the book was going to be from one chapter to the next. I've read other Shannon Drake novels and this is the first I've been disappointed in. Save your money and choose another book.
Rating: Summary: Not up to par for Drake Review: I found the book tiresome. It was definately not up to the usual standard for Drake.
Rating: Summary: Another great read from Shannon Drake Review: I found this book to be another great vampire, romance from Ms. Drake and I couldn't put the book down. I thought her plot line just awesome with some great turns and twists.
Rating: Summary: realm of shadows?????? Review: I have longed for this book to come out....the story was good but not enough romance....and the part about jade not being a vampire? it is stated in her last book, that clearly jade is a vampire, and what about jordan, ragnor comes into the picture, but their is no closeur about jordan....I feel her best book in the series is When darkness falls......I hope here next book is more like her first 2 in this series.... those where books you could not put down.....
Rating: Summary: Where has Shannon Drake gone? Review: I have read all of Shannon Drake's books, but I could not even get to chapter 2 on this one. This is not what my romance dreams are made of. What a let down to look for this author and find this type of book.
Rating: Summary: Realm of Shadows Review: I have read Shannon Drake before, and for the most part I have enjoyed her books. I wish I could say the same for this one. This is a contemporary romance novel set outside of Paris. The setting a small town outside of Paris where two female cousins are worried about their aging grandfather who they think is going off the deep end because he believe in vampires. Sounds good except that it never really goes anywhere. There are many charactors in this book. It would have been nice to know some detail about their lives. Everything is very obscure and no one is really brought to life. The love interest between Tara and Brent is so lukewarm that it's practically none existant. It's hard to believe that this is even a romance novel. It is about as romantic as a TV dinner on a Saturday night.
