Summary: Dismal and disappointing. I'd give it 1/2 star if possible.
Review: As a true Koontz fan, I was so terribly disappointed in this trite, disgusting book. It really does not seem possible that this book was written by the same man who wrote Fear Nothing, Whispers and Watchers. The basic plot could have made an interesting read, but the execution was faulty, stilted, and unfunny. What happened?!!

Summary: Read a different Koontz book!
Review: A friend of mine got me into the Dean Koontz books last year and I was instantly hooked! I especially loved Watchers and Tick Tock- but Demon Seed? Did somebody else write this one? The depth, intensity, and excitement that are almost always a part of Koontz's books, just were not there. And the plot- come on! If you haven't read Koontz before, don't start with this one. If you are stuck on a plane for a three hour flight (like I was) and the only book you've got is Demon Seed- go ahead... but there are MUCH better books out there.

Summary: Terrible. Need I say more?
Review: For a person used to such writers as Stephen King and Robert Jordan, reading this book was a major let down. Cheesy cliches and a terrible ending make for good firewood.

Summary: Excellent, original, beautiful
Review: Koontz usually seems to write things that always have to do with realistic situations. I like his stuff like that, but Demon Seed was cool just because of the way it was written. You really get to know the character narrating the story and feel very sorry for him towards the end. More great Koontz titles are The Voice of the Night and Dragon Tears, if you are looking for a great read.

Summary: Not Koontz Best
Review: After reading his other books like, Door to December and Hideaway, I was very dissappointed in Deamon Seed. While it was disturbing it was just too unrealistic. Aftificial insemination by a computer that is horny, I don't think so.

Summary: Wouldn't be surprised if it were to happen one day.
Review: I read only one other book by Dean Koontz(The Bad Place), and even though I do agree that Demon Seed was not as well "written" as The Bad Place, I think that there is some awful and eerie truth to what Koontz tried to portray. Even if it was his attempt to re-make a previous success, I think that it proves that just as an author would like to update his material, a computer might one day want to do the same. Even though it may sound "way out there" to some skeptics out there, remember people, it is science fiction, and we never thought the video-telephone would one day become a reality (2001:Odessey), but it did. Just enojy the read, and "don't sweat the small stuff".

Summary: SO VERY DISSAPOINTED
Review: I fell in love with the excellent film version of this novel. I can't say enough good things about the movie. It is extremely frightening and the wild plot is almost believable. I searched without success for years trying to find the book. I was jubilant when I discovered that he had re-released the novel. I became weary when I realized that he had also attempted to update it. The result - a pathetic let down. His attempts to merge the internet into the story was nothing short of humourous. The mighty Proteus supercomputer, an entity that held almost godlike power and respect in the film, was reduced to a teen voyuer pervert in the novel. It was too short, too ridiculous, and very disappointing when compared with the film. I'd LOVE to get a copy of his original version. Rent the film first, then get the book and decide for yourselves - but be prepared for a letdown. Koontz took a fabulous plot idea and ran it through the sewers. I think I stick with Stephen King next time!

Summary: The seed of DRK's success
Review: Demon Seed (1997) is basically the original story updated for the 1990s (Virtual Reality, the Net, Winona Ryder, etc. added in.) Yes, it's a slim novel (novella?) that lacks most of the elements we associate with Dean Koontz - the moody buildup of atmosphere, the excellent characters, the sense of gathering unease and menace. As with the original, it's difficult to be entirely convinced by Adam Two's motivation. A sentient supercomputer, fine. A sentient supercomputer that lusts after beautiful women..Hmmm. And yet; there is a taut, focussed quality to the writing that is very evident in his earlier stories but not in his most recent ones. I'd like to see this intensity again in his future stories; after all, we must want to keep turning the pages if we are to keep buying the books. 6/03/99

Summary: If you've read Dean Koontz books before you'll hate this.
Review: This is not one of Dean's best books, it is different from his usual style of writing, but if you have not read his books before, you'll love it. This was the first Koontz novel I ever read, and I thoughorly enjoyed it at the time, but after reading more of his works, I realize that this was not one of his best.

Summary: Excellent
Review: This book was excellent. I don't read books often, actually I don't unless I have to, but this book was just so good I couldn't stop reading it. I actually finished the book in a week (that is so good for me) I usually never finish a book.
