Rating: Summary: GOOD BOOK BUT I'M STILL CONFUSED Review: I thought this book was very imaginative and entertaining but Im still confused on what happened at the end sort of like he wrote an 800 page book and tore out 200 pages then got it published. If anyone can give me some insight please email me at StMortem@aol.com.
Rating: Summary: clive?? Review: I'm not sure what has happened to Barker. I can't believe the man who wrote mind blowing pieces like the Books of Blood, the Damnation Game, and Imajica is the same one who wrote the aimless Everville. The Great and Secret Show was flawed but still worthwhile. Everville wouldn't have even been good as a money-motivated, posthumous release.
Rating: Summary: Grow up horror fans! Review: I'm sick and tired of people saying that Clive has lost something since the Books of Blood and Damnation Game. Well horror fans, Clive hasn't lost a thing but has gained in abundance. The problem is, is that horror fans cannot open themselves up to anything new, and just want blood. So when Clive writes a story that involves thinking, WOW!, then you get the simple minded horror fan saying, where's the blood and all the guts, I don't want to think about a plot or story line. I believe I am the biggest Barker fan around, and I say get his books off the horror racks so that he starts to gain a more mature readership to appreciate his masterpieces. And that's what they are masterpieces. His prose is crisper and his ideas are fresher than anyone writing fiction today. And I don't believe that he will get what he deserves in respect until after his death. Then finally scholars will find out and realize his originality. There is no other Clive Barker, and there never will be. There will be other Stephen Kings (there already are), there will be other John Irvings and Tom Wolfe's (the supposedly premeire authors today), but there will never be another Clive. So rejoice in his fiction and appreciate the beauty. He has so many sights to show us, and so much power to give us; we don't even have to beg.
Rating: Summary: Too Much Stuffing Review: I've learned recently that I've fallen victim to the classic blunder of reading the sequel before the original (The Great and Secret Show), which I absolutely must read, by the way! And I blame possibly this error for my lack of stars for this particular Barker masterpiece! Yes, it is a masterpiece, chocked full of imaginative characters and prose so well written it hurts to put it down and go (eventually) to sleep. But it became clear after a while that more was happening than I could keep pace with, including references to places, events and characters to which I haven't been introduced (from The G and S Show). Sadly, it was harder to appreciate the story line because of the feeling of "missing out", and that's a concept that novels should try and eliminate or at least tone down (I strongly feel that each book should be an entity able to exist on its own; like the Patricia Cornwell - Kay Scarpetta novels). So I lost track for a few (hundred) pages of action and backtrack themes, and now I regret wholly not reading part 1 first. He should have at least made that note on the cover! But I grew to love the main characters, and I was drawn in helplessly for the first two-thirds of the story, intrigued as I've never been since reading Weaveworld! I'll probably alter this review after I read The G & S Show, but for now, it's confusing to read on its own.
Rating: Summary: The book speaks for itself Review: If all books were written like this one; all other writers would be out of business. Maeve was an incredible woman, and Tesla was enthralling. The author takes you to Quiddity and astounds the imagination! This is the best book I have read in years. Incredible! Clive has no equal.
Rating: Summary: I loved it!! Going crazy waiting for the next volume!! Review: If it's fantasy you want, fantasy you get in this book and The Great & Secret Show. I had never read a book by Clive Barker until recently. Now I have read every book written by him and I am hooked. I'm going crazy waiting for the third book (regarding the "ART")!!
Rating: Summary: Almost (but not quite) as good as the first Review: In Everville: The Second Book of the Art, Barker once again throws us into a mystical world of amazing possibilities. Like The Great and Secret Show the bizarre events are all the more fascinating because it's mostly set in our world (The general area of Oregon I grew up in, as a matter of fact). New characters are introduced and surprising fates await the characters from the first book. Also, the fascinating Harry D'Amour plays a much larger role. The book is filled with Barker's trademark mind-bending imagery and strange creatures. However, the book isn't quite as fast-moving as the first and drags on at times. Also, the world of Quiddity doesn't seem quite so mystical this time around. Fans of Barker and of the first book will still find it worthy to be on the same shelf as his other surreal epic fantasies.

Rating: Summary: doesn't connect to his First Book of Art Review: it's supposed to be the second episode or volume to the first one but it's nowhere close to it. anyway, it has the same theme talking about the dream-sea but this novel's really off and characters are totally different (except couple of them). i think Clive Barker should check his work to interconnect to his Great and Secret Show or else change the name or write different stuff
Rating: Summary: Thumbs Up for "The Art" Review: Not as good as The Great and Secret Show, but still a good book. This one was a little more difficult to follow. Surprises all the way to the end. I cant wait for the 3rd book of the art. I sure hope one is in the works.
