Rating: Summary: depressing ending, but a very good read Review: I was overall enterained by creature. The story was captivating and deep. I thought the ending was sad and interesting at the same time. Especially, when you usually look for the happily ever after ending. But, that is what made this book so good
Rating: Summary: Slow in beginning, but ending is great!! Review: If you start this book, get a fourth of the way through, and decide it's not worth it, don't stop reading it. The beginning just works up to a great climax, and the middle is good too, when you start to realize what might happen.
Rating: Summary: Dont pick it up... Review: In my opinion, Creature, was not a very interesting read. The title itself is plain enough to make you turn your head the other way, but I sampled the novel anyway. It was okay..for the first 50 or so pages but began to drag. If you make it past page 150, its an accomplishment! If you want a good book to start, try one of John Saul's earlier writings, "Nathaniel"
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: It may have not been exciting in the beggining, but it was still good. Gradually it became very suspensefull, and terrific. I loved it. The ending was so sad, but I still would recomend this book to anybody. I'm starting a on-line horror book club. If you are interested, e-mail me at the above address.
Rating: Summary: It was really well written Review: It was a really good book. One of my favorites, the character were believable.
Rating: Summary: A Book I will remember. Couldn't put it down. Review: It was one of those sad horror novels. I loved it. It put a real twist to the reality of sports medicine and how this was a coaches idea! Simply amazing. If anyone knows anymore good John Saul books E-Mail me.
Rating: Summary: Creature fails to Satisfy (revised edition) Review: John Saul, the author well-known for his novels that are created with eerie twists, fails to create a masterpiece with his latest novel, Creature. Creature describes a small family who, as a result of a job promotion, moves to a secluded town in the mountains of Colorado. Once settled, the family begins to notice certain strangeness amongst the townspeople. Football players and parents alike seem oblivious to the changes made in the personalities of the boys as a result of an experimental treatment gone awry. It appears to be up to the new family in town to solve the mystery before their own son follows the fate of those before him. The author has a certain familiarity with science, sports medicine in particular, and has knowledge of football. The author tells the story from varying points of view, from the mad scientist to the crazy football coach to the estranged wife to the football players themselves as they slowly go insane. As a result the author uses dramatic irony in an attempt to appeal to the reader. This story, though completely fictional, does question readers' morals consistently throughout the novel. The author asks such questions that invoke checks on readers' own beliefs. Would the reader be willing to step up against an entire town with a powerful company worth millions of dollars working against him or her? Would the reader risk their own life to save the life of many more inevitably to follow? The author's perspective on the novel cannot be easily deciphered. The novel is obviously meant to entertain the audience by keeping them on the edge of their seats waiting to see what will happen next. However, with the books gruesome details, pleasure is hard to find. While the novel is generally meant for a mature audience, no special background is necessary for any reader to comprehend the novel. It can, however, be recommended that the reader be familiar with a few scientific terms for the purpose of realizing if the book can in fact become a reality. The book does suggest that such a phenomena can occur today and could possibly be occurring. This leaves the readers interested and frightened. The book does have a great strength in the authors background information. The novel also appeals to those who like horror novels with the predominant gore. However, the book is not written in a concise pattern that will appeal to various readers. The author held back and as a result the book appears to be missing something. The book simply does not compare to Saul's many other novels and as a result the reader the may be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: The best Review: One of the best books I have read so far, it should be taken into a Hollywood movie with famous actors.
Rating: Summary: Slow start, no finish Review: The begining was a bit slow, but I at times expect that from some authors, they prefer to take extra care in the setup. Then there was a point where the 'Good parts' started happeneing, and this renewed my interest. The ending, though, was not one, in my opinion. It skidded to a halt with several deaths and an underdone resolution. It left me wanting to know more about what happened afterward. It's an incomplete tale that left me wishing not for a sequel, but for the last 20 or 30 pages of an unfinished story.
Rating: Summary: great. Review: this book has great detail, and i cared what happened. i hope you read of of John Saul's work. this book is a must.
