Rating: Summary: The greatest novel I have ever read Review: The day I found Imajica on the shelves, I was intrigued by the wonderful cover, and having already read a wonderful Clive Barker novel (The Thief of Always) I picked up a copy of Book 1. I have to admit I was confused at first, it really threw me, but once I climbed into this surreal world. I loved every minute of this breath-taking epic, enticed by the lurid boundary-breaking love scenes, saddened by the tales of woe and even heart-poundingly excited by everything this has to offer. I have to admit that Clive Barker isn't that high on my favorite authors list, but this masterpiece will always be re-read and passed on through every generation of my family from now on. The bible can't even hold it's own versus Imajica. -Starman
Rating: Summary: diffrent and good as magic Review: this book is unpredictable. It is better then other "magic" books(tolklien, lewis carrol, king ect.) barker doesnt try to be like anything or anybody he just write what he likes. I never felt more mystical and epic reading this.

Rating: Summary: A magical rollercoaster, rife with contradictions Review: This is an amazing book. It's built around love-hate relationships. It's fitting that's exactly how I feel about it. Central to the Imagica is reunification, but the story splits apart male and female into halves that can never be joined together. On the social level, males are only capable of destruction, conquest, and imposing limitations. All aspects of life-giving, forgiveness, and healing are the sole property of women and the Goddesses. But on the individual level, only men are responsible for the healing of the Imagica (the five Maestros are male, and Gentle's whole entourage is male). Gentle's chosen mate isn't even a woman, it's a hermaphodite. Women in the book are out for personal gain, vengeance, or both. I can't decide if the Imagica is militantly feminist, or misogynist. All I know is that it's been years since I've been so emotionally overwhelmed by a novel. If you need a story of hope in your life, read this book
Rating: Summary: Excellent, magnificant, mind twisting... Review: This is book for anyone who wants or desires his or her imagination twisted and brought to the edge of the mind
Rating: Summary: Brillant, brilliant, brillant Review: This was one of the best books I've ever read. The ideas and concepts are completely origninal. Barker mixes in just the right amounts fantasy, science fiction, horror, suspense and realism. His writing is lucid without being obvious and descriptive without being lengthy or dull. Every single one of his characters is interesting. I especially loved Pie O Pah. Please don't be put off by his twisted movies. Clive Baker is a brilliant author
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've ever read. Review: Though I'm rather annoyed they've split the reissue of "Imajica" into two volumes, I cannot urge people enough toread this book. I am not much of a horror reader, and I would not classify this as a horror book. If you're put off by Barker's more gruesome works, don't be put off this one; though there are some truly horrific and disturbing sections, they have far more value than simply shocking the reader. "Imajica" is a soul-filled exploration of the human relationship with the Divine, gender, love, time and the return of the Goddess, vividly written. Every time I have picked it up, mostly to either put it away or recommend it to someone else, I have ended up re-reading it. I lost count at the sixth time. So did I mention that I really love this book?

Rating: Summary: What a stinker! Review: What a stinker on ice! I swear, I don't care about a single one of these characters, and the plot is so meandering... it's like being lost in someone's dream. While I find dreams interesting, they generally aren't coherant enough for a 500 page novel. I enjoy a wide variety of books, and I'm usually pretty forgiving. I usually read a book of this length in a day or two, this one took me over a week. Far from being the "book you can't put down" this book just seemed to ramble on and on. Each new plot twist seemed like a gratuitous and poorly thought through whim on the part of the author. I really felt that Clive Barker was riding his reputation with this one, as I doubt it would have sold well at all without his name, even if he'd been able to get it published.
Rating: Summary: Greatest Epic Since Fellowship of the Rings Review: What can I say?? This book only proves Barker's extensive skill at taking the reader's breath....while he takes your mind on one of the most exciting, emotional and visual reading experiences to date. I loved this book and was finished in a week! Can't get to the bookstore fast enough to pick up Volume II and rejoin Gentle and Pie on their journey through the Dominions. Barker is truly a visionary!!!
