Rating: Summary: Very Interesting and Weird Review: I have read the book TICKTOCK by Dean Koontz. I thought that this book was a very interesting book that keep me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book. Having to find the beginning and the middle of the book being very interesting and also a little scary. Then when a that alien monster thing popped out the story became very werid. In becoming werid the book made me read more and i couldnt stop. Whenthe end finally came i was sort of confused. If you like Dean Koontz books i suggest that you read TICKTOCK for an unexpected ending.
Rating: Summary: AN EXCELLENT PIECE OF WRITING Review: This book is definately one of his best. The horror is cleverly combined with the humor. It was scary and frightening throughout but at the same time I was laughing my head off. I have read it loads of times and still I keep laughing and laughing and laughing. Even as I sit here now I have a big grin on my face as I think about Tommy trying to comprehend the strange seriousness of the phrases Del keeps saying after all the terror he has just been though. My favourite line is just after Del has driven off in the van after T+D have just met and the monster jumped on the window of the van; Del says (after minutes of complete and utter terror)'so, that was the doll-snake, rat-quick little monster thing, huh?' In complete seriousness. Oh the laughter!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I have read through all the reviews after I read the book 50 times I must admit I thought this book to be absolutely brilliant. If an author feels he needs to change his tempo who are we as his fans to judge him. I feel that after all his exceptional writing he deserves an opportunity to make his readers laugh and I am sure 80% of his readers did just that. Really "Lightning, Watchers and the Bad Place" keeps one of the edge of your seat - Tick Tock tickles one. I recommend this book to anybody with a sense of humour.
Rating: Summary: OK but what chance to redeem with a sequel Review: Loved characters and Del & Tommy. The story ended up being a bit silly in the end but it was cute. I am hoping Mr. K uses this opportunity for a sequel and develops the alien theme. When I read the last page, I wanted to go on to their next adventure.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely loved it Review: This book is a must read. Do not however expect to be frightened by it, it's not that kind of book. Oh sure it starts off frightening enough, but it quickly degenerates into almost a slapstick comedy. The most frightening aspect of this book has to be tommy phan's mother. This book isn't about scaring people, it's a message about living life to its fullest.I repeat, TickTock is a must read!
Rating: Summary: Fear, fun, fantasy, fright, frivolity. Review: Loved this book. Please Mr. Koontz, a sequel???
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I am a big fan of Dean Koontz. From my first read, Darkfall, all the way to a recent read Sole Survivor, I was hooked. Dean Koontz is usually able to keep me captivated from the start. However, Tick Tock was very disappointing. I find it strange that so many other Amazon readers loved it. The story started out frightening, but then became entirely too silly for me. When I sit down to read a Koontz, I want to be so scared I'm afraid to turn out the light. But instead, I almost closed the book for good. I just kept waiting for it to get better; but it didn't. Botttom line: I found the idea of a cursed doll (cursed by a friend of Tommy Phan's mother, no less) had great potential, but the underlying plot elements were too far-fetched and somewhat ridiculous.
Rating: Summary: A great idea, but then Koontz got the giggles. Review: Attempting to wring terror out of the narrative of this book is like trying to get scared by watching one of those Abbott and Costello films where they run from the mummy. My mother, who loves the works of Koontz, recommended this novel to me. But I think she did so before reading it herself. Here, Koontz deviates from his norm. The story begins with a genuinely bone-chilling account of a man pursued by what seems to be a childlike doll but is something much more sinister. However, things finish up with a little too much silliness for most Koontz readers to digest. Dolls are meant to bring joy to small children, but can also alarm kids because of their spooky, painted-on faces and staring, impersonal eyes. My cousin had a doll that might as well have been a werewolf or a ghost, because it was one of those that blinked and talked and had that quirky smile, and seemed to be watching me as I moved around the room. They are lifeless representations of ourselves, much like corpses are. So as I read the first part of the book, that sense of dread came back and I was very much into the novel. But as the story moved along, it began transforming into something between dark humor and slapstick, and the last few pages of the book were downright ridiculous. When you read Koontz, you don't want comedy. I give the book two stars because at least the idea was sound in its initial stages and parts of it really frightened me. But he should have stuck with that concept and saved the horror/comedy routine for Abbott and Costello.
Rating: Summary: Not what you'd expect Review: This is the only Koontz book I've found where the baddie is stupid and the goodies are great. When I started reading this book I found it rather boring and tedious, then I met Del Payne. The start and the ending of the thriller storyline are pretty mediocre but that's okay when compared to the development of the relationship between Del and Tommy, and the antics of Scootie and Del's mother. This is a funny, heartwarming one, don't expect it to scare you.
Rating: Summary: Dean Koontz...where are you?? Review: After reading Intensity and looking forward to Tick Tock, I don't know what went wrong. This book was not horror it was horrible. I was actually anxious to finish it (actually amazed that I bothered to) to find out what the rating was from Amazon readers. I am astounded that the average review for this awful book was 4 stars. It's nice that one reader allowed her 10 year old to read it, but that is not what adult readers expect from Koontz. The characters in this book - being chased by a cursed doll - wise-cracking and cutting up all the way thru car and boat wrecks and murders. Tommy Phan's mother was the most frightening thing about this book. If this had been the first book I read penned by Mr Koontz, I would not bother reading another by him. It was silly and juvenile and, as if that wasn't enough, had no point, no plot and no purpose.
