Summary: TickTock Not So Hot
Review: I was a little disapointed with this book. I am a big Koontz fan, but this novel fell a little short. It wasn't as humorous as I expected, and I felt that the ending was horrible. The explanation given for the strange occurences just fell short of the story. Tommy and Del, the two main characters were however very entertaining. I hope Koontz will write more novels for this pair. My reccommendation would be to wait on this book. If Koontz comes up with more stories involving these two characters, then read 'TickTock' for an introduction into the two. Otherwise, I think you'd be more satisfied with a different novel.

Summary: Read this now!
Review: The book Tick Tock was the first piece of Dean Koontz literature I ever read, about two years ago. I found it to be very well-written and understandable, but at the same time, fast-paced and fun. There was humor, action, black-magic, and intrigue. I seriously reccomend this book to anyone considering themselves a Dean Koontz, horror, or book fan.

Summary: This is one of the few books that actually made me LOL
Review: Tommy Phan has just about everything he ever dreamed of: a successful career as a novelist, a brand new Corvette, and all the trappings that money can buy. His life would be perfect if only his Mother would stop making him feel guilty for forgetting his Vietnamese roots.

When Tommy returns home one night, after a particularly bad nagging phone call from Mom, he finds an innocent rag doll lying on his doorstep and brings it in for a closer inspection. This is when things start getting really weird. In no time at all Tommy, an eccentric woman who saves his butt, and her chocolate lab whose favorite toy is a farting hot-dog, are running for their lives from the devil's spawn. They have until dawn to outrun the demon.

I really have to read the unabridged version of this book. I hate knowing I missed even one hilarious word. Unlike Koontz's most recent releases that were sometimes painfully dark, twisted and so intense I couldn't read them alone TICK TOCK is a more of a screwball comedy that reminded me of some of my favorite campy B horror flicks. I had visions of PUPPETMASTER & NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD while reading and was reminded of my favorite kind of B movie demon: The beast that wouldn't die. This is not a criticism! There is nothing like a good campy B horror movie!

Koontz creates the most likable off the wall characters: the guilt ridden down to earth Tommy Phan (I don't know anyone who hasn't experienced the "guilt" phone call), Deliverance Payne who continually surprised me with her strangeness, Scootie the face licker, and Tommy's Mom who has some of the most hilarious lines in the book. Which brings me to the dialogue - some of the funniest I've ever read. Too often humor can seem forced or stilted but never in this book. The characters were so kooky the wild dialogue flowed naturally. Some of my favorite scenes weren't the suspenseful chases or the gore filled shoot-outs but the bantering and bickering between the characters. TICK TOCK has a little bit of several of my favorite genres: horror, comedy, suspense, and a good old fashioned romance.

I found there were a few unexplained plot points in the abridged version I read and I'm hoping they will be cleared up when I read the full version or maybe I'll just hope for a sequel.

Summary: Not Bad!
Review: This book is a very good work of the author. I realy enjoyed while reading it. It's about a charmed doll. You will enjoy it too if you liked "Chuky"(the movie).

Summary: Mildly entertaining but...
Review: not Koontz at his best. The novel suffers from too much dialogue, much of it not necessary to the plot. It somewhat redeems itself in the mystery surrounding Tommy's female saviour. If you like a novel with the elements of science-fiction like monsters, you'd probably enjoy this one. But if you prefer a suspenseful, horror novel that could be plausible in a real-life situation, you should probably pass on this one.

Summary: Total Slap Stick
Review: I loved this book! For once Koontz comes up with some really original characters and he actually has a sense of humor! Plus, unlike his usual stuff, this actually moves along fast with no wasted words. My one big complaint is the obnoxious and unnecessary author's note he tags on at the end explaining how he came to write the book, blah, blah, blah. One thing in that author's note that really insulted my intelligence in particular was Koontz saying he worked and worked on the book, but it didn't come together till he made Tommy a Vietnamese immigrant. A huge part of the plot and the development of many of the characters hinges on the fact that Tommy is Vietnamese. I find it impossible to believe that this was a last minute touch; he would have had to re-write the book from scratch. The little "rat-quick" monster wouldn't have existed without the Vietnamese element and he was the star of the show! I don't understand Koontz's motive in claiming the Vietnamese part was a sudden inspiration that pulled the book together. Oh, well, I guess most authors are a little strange.

Summary: YA GOTTA LOVE THIS ONE!
Review: This was the second DK book I ever read and I totally loved it! Tommy's got some serious but wacky family problems and he's also got a cool car...at least for a little while. Del's one of DK's best characters just 'cause of what she is (read the book and find out what I mean). And I love the dog! Ok, let's give the minkin some credit too, even though it did ruin a perfectly good love scene. My only problem w/this book is that it's way too short.

Summary: simply silly
Review: I have read many by Koontz and I definetely say this is the worst! I really liked Watchers and Twilight Eyes, but there is something about Koontz that disturbes me. He doesn't seem to have any imagination. In three of his books I have read, the mystery of the story was related to some genetic work that has gone out of control, I don't know if there are any others. He tried to plot something different in this one but unfortunately it turns out to be something rather childish, or , to be honest, silly. I say, do not waste your time.

Summary: Wow.......that's all i can say!
Review: The book is a great display of the power of Dean Koontz. His unique style of writing and great builder of suspense. It is no wonder why he is the "master of suspense". This is a great book. It was the first book that i read from the great author, and now i want to keep reading his books.

Summary: Bring Your Sense of Humor
Review: For those of you who enjoy Dean's books and aren't too serious-minded, you will love this zany adventure that is as humorous as it is completely improbable. It is perfect escape reading that I recommend for a rainy night snuggled in bed.
