Rating: Summary: This is the highlight of thsi writers career! Review: This is Dean R. Koontz' ultimate masterpiecem, a truly thrilling pageturner! He uses his imagination more then in any other book, and this book recalls the "screwball comedy's" of the 1930's! Fun, fun and more fun is what this book is. Especially if you are from Orange County and get the humor of the Vietnamese in Garden Grove(Little Saigon), it's all so stereotypical but true of "Garbage Grove." Tommy the lead charecter is our Asian Humprey Bogart from Newport Beach, his mother is your typical overbearring mother(who speaks in broken English, nice touch). Tommy's mother is well meaning, but causes trouble. This book has it all science fiction, monsters, a terrific love story, it's hilarious, and NEVER gets dull, an some Koontz books do. This is the one Koontz book I will read again and again, and this is the highlight of this writers career. Everything about his book is great, every single page! If you are a fun oerson who likes imagination and creativity in your reading then this book is for you, if your anal, you still should enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: Loved It!!! Review: This book was funny, this book was scary. I found
this book to be very believable. The characters were written so
wonderfully, I could actually see them come alive on the pages.
It starts when a Vietnamese-American writer finds a gift at his front door. He accepts the gift, not knowing what is to follow. Soon he meets Deliverance, and the joyride begins.
I truly enjoyed this book, and recommend it to
everyone. I give this book my highest rating of 5 stars:) By the way, I need a cheeseburger!!!
Rating: Summary: Demon Terror, Koontz Humor, Super Story Review: Mystery writer Tommy Phan is having a bad night. It's raining, but he can't really enjoy the ride he's having in his new Corvette, even though he did seem to enjoy flirting with a waitress earlier. His mother just seems to have a way of making him feel guilty. How come he hasn't married a nice Vietnamese girl? Can he help it if he prefers blondes? How come he isn't a doctor? Can he help it if he'd rather write?
When he gets home he finds a rag doll on his doorstep. He takes it inside, uh oh, bad move, doesn't he know he's in a Dean Koontz novel. There's a demon in the doll that seems to delight in terrorizing Tommy. Not wanting to become demon dinner, he gets on out of there, races through town, wrecks the new `Vette, but he can't seem to shake the demon and you won't be able to shake this book. Super characters, though unlike other Dean Koontz books, this one almost has a sense of the comical and that just seems to make it all the more delectable.
Rating: Summary: The silliest book I've read so far Review: This was the first time I'd read a boring horror novel.
Rating: Summary: Terrible Review: The first book of Koontz' I ever read was Lightning, and I loved it. It is my favourite book, but then I was terribly disappointed when the second book of his I picl up is nothing more than a whimsical fantasy. There were parts where I thought I was going to get scared, but then, nothing. A rag doll that comes to life? Come on, I could have thought of that and been more imaginative with it. At least Lightning had interesting plot turns, and identifiable characters. The woman was the product of alien testing? Ooooh that is just PAINFUL. I would actually have given it 0 stars out of five because I cannot recall one single thing I liked about the book.
Rating: Summary: Tick Tock = One of Koontz's best Review: The story centers around a Vietnamese author named Tommy Phan who writes detective novels. One night, Tommy receives a strange package on his porch. When he opens it, Tommy discovers that it is a rag doll. Unfortunately, things start to become deadly serious rather quickly. There is an evil demon inside the doll that breaks out and is obsessed with killing Tommy. Not only is the demon a deadly one, but it is also highly intelligent as well. It managed to leave Tommy a note on his computer that comprised of "The deadline is dawn. Tick tock... Tick tock". Now Tommy not only has to survive the night without being killed, but he also has to solve the mystery of who sent the demon to him and why they want him dead.
Over the years I have read most of Koontz's books. However, Tick Tock was always a book that I put off reading. The premise sounded like a rip off of the film "Child's Play", and I had heard some bad feedback on the book from certain people who had read the book. I finally decided to put my skepticism aside, and give Tick Tock a chance. I am so glad that I did, because it is seriously one of the best books that I have read in awhile, and that is just not limiting the criteria to Dean Koontz novels either. I am talking overall, and I read a lot of books. The book manages to hook you in from the first page and keeps you there until the very end. The suspense that this book brings is so intense, that it is almost unreal.
However, although the demon may be scary and the suspense is almost overwhelming at times, the book's real appeal comes from Koontz's character development. Tommy Phan is one of my favorite Koontz characters. Koontz portrays Tommy as a man who is constantly fighting against his heritage to become more American, and it is his battle against those beliefs that makes his war with the demon harder. Koontz also manages to create one of the best female leads he has ever written as well. Along the way, Tommy meets and eventually falls for a woman named Deliverance Payne who joins him in the fight against the demon no questions asked. Del's different philosophies on life, her twisted sense of humor, and her wild past make Del an extremely interesting and likeable character. The relationship that develops between Del and Tommy is one of Koontz's more enjoyable ones. It truly brings a new meaning to the phrase "opposites attract".
Overall, Tick Tock is now one of my favorite Koontz books. This book showcases Koontz's character development at its best, and supplies a perfect mixture of horror, suspense, humor, and romance.

Rating: Summary: This is the highlight of thsi writers career! Review: This book is one of the worst Dean Koontz books ever."The Servants Of Twilight","The Voice Of The Night","The Face Of Fear',and "Intensity".The plot is stupid, the characters are unmemorable, and it isn't scary. This is,however, not as bad as "Lightning".
Rating: Summary: Utterly Embarrassing.... Review: After reading this book, I was ashamed that I had announced to so many people what a Koontz fan I was, fearing that out of all Koontz's novels this would be the one they picked out to read. The book is terrible. But, I agree with the reviewer who said it seemed as if it should be for young teenagers, and compared it to R.L. Stine. That's just what I was thinking. Perhaps if I was 13 I would have liked the book, with all it's childishness. So that is why I gave it two stars instead of one - it was amusing in some parts, and the characters were very colorful. I just don't think adults would want to pay for this book, or if they do then they should know what to expect.
