Summary: suspensial mastertrip
Review: I liked previous Lincol Rhyme novel 'Bone Collector' and as the ending of the books was dull I forget about other Deaver books. But as Coffin Dancer starts more slowly, Coffin Dancer has has a huge edgy impact after every page after first quarter of the book. I have read many of them, but rare was ones that keep me up until I haven't finished it. Dancer main weapon is deceiving as is author's. You try to figure it out when it bring you on the same spot from totally other corner. You think you already outsmarted the writter, but the you are wrong again. If you have accompanied the first Rhyme novel (Collector), you will see as well important part of relationship with Officer Sachs in this book. One of best parts of book is of course the forensic knowledge you will find in it, twisted with newest technology there is on this field. But the plot is best part. You can't stay still while reading it, and you can't put it down before you finished it.

Summary: Good Forensic Mystery
Review: The Coffin Dancer is the second installment in the Lincoln Rhyme series. The book centers around a killer-for-hire called the Coffin Dancer (called such due to a tattoo on the killer that displays the grim reaper dancing with a woman infront of a coffin). Also returning in this volume is Amelia Sachs, Lincoln's protege, Thom, Lincoln's health care assistant, and various police officers.

I enjoyed Deaver's first book in this series, The Bone Collector, due to the forensic detail and twists and turns. I was pleasantly surprised to find that The Coffin Dancer was even a better read. The forensic detail was excellent, the twists and turns at the end made you feel like you had gotten on a rollercoaster ride. If you like to see relationships develop in your read, you'll enjoy the connection that Lincoln and Amelia continue to build upon.

I can only hope that the next installment in the series, The Empty Chair, is as good a read as this.

Summary: Brain Candy
Review: This was a page turner, but you have to forgive the holes in the story and just be willing to accept things as they are. The science needed more research - the methods used in some scenes just don't give cut and dry results in 1 second flat. There's no way that all the action in that book happened in what - 48 hours? Rhymes' conclusions seem a little too good for the facts on which they're based. There are some great plot twists near the end, though I guessed the ultimate "bad guy" up front. Anyway, it kept me reading and interested, but it isn't a realistic book.

Summary: A gem of a book
Review: This is the book that introduced me to Deaver and it was good enough that I went and bought every other one of his novels. I thought this was the best of them, but several of the others (mainly the others in the Lincoln Rhyme series) were also good, solid reads.

The first thing you note about Deaver is his precision -- he is a master of the English language and he knows it. (Some of his teaching, almost preachy, asides as to grammar are quite funnily snippy). This makes for distinctive and accurate descriptions, which in turn give the book a great visual feel. The second thing you note is that he loves his plots twists and turns -- his trademark is a number of *big* shifts in the action (not just one, that'd be too prosaic!). No-one is quite who they seem, and just when you think you know what to expect, the story bucks and shakes and takes off in a wholly different direction. I feel I am pretty good at picking plot direction but Deaver had me stumped almost every time.

Overall, this is a really enjoyable novel -- believable characters, great plot and lots of action. Its technical details are overwhelming in their accuracy and comprehensiveness. If you like crime fiction, you have to give this book (and the other Lincoln Rhyme books) a go.

Summary: Worth the Struggle
Review: I really had to struggle getting through the first half of this book. I just didn't seem to care for any of the victims yet. After reaching the halfway point, I was rewarded nicely by situations that had me on the edge of my seat. So, if you're struggling too, hang in there. The book is worth it.

Summary: Poor, simple-minded characters
Review: The detective here, Rhyme, is such a crybaby. What's supposed to come off as his special 'brilliance' is actually bleeding freakin' obvious stuff. "Wow, Lincoln," you'll say, "You figured that all by yourself!" You'll feel sorry for him and the other sorry characters. You'll gaze through ENORMOUS HOLES in the plot and see the starry sky. RECOMMENDED FOR THE WEAK-MINDED.

Summary: Deaver writes the best!
Review: As a writer of over 10 books Jeffery Deaver can hold the audience in every one of his books. One of his best, which is also one of his most recent, is The Coffin Dancer. This novel of about 400 pages, is one of three Lincoln Rhyme novels. The first was The Bone Collector, and his newest is The Empty Chair, which I am reading. The Coffin Dancer lies right in between. Being a quadriplegic who can only move one finger, Lincoln Rhyme was one of the best homicide investigators in his field. He is now strapped to a bed. But with the help of his new partner, Amelia Sachs, he is using his mind, and her physical ability to catch killers. Now he faces one killer who seems to be able to outwit Rhyme himself. He is known as the Coffin Dancer, since to only victim alive long enough to tell about him said he had a tattoo on his right thigh. It was a picture of a woman dancing with the Grim Reaper in front of an open coffin. The plot twists begin from the first page, and I do mean the very first page, and don't stop till the last couple of pages. And while you may think the killer is named in the first couple of pages, he is not found out until the very last pages. While Deaver is gory in some ways, he knows how to hold the reader and plot together throughout. The shocking ending is sure to add to the signature plot made by Jeffery Deaver. And while I will not reveal the ending, since a book this good deserves to be read, I can say it was one of the best...challenged only by other books written by himself. In my opinion? The Coffin Dancer is the undisputed winner of the best book I have ever read. It had the best plot, the best characters, and most suspense out of any book I read so far...and believe me, I have read many, many novels. If there is one book of overall quality I would recommend to read, it is The Coffin Dancer. Intricate forensic detail, and breathtaking speed, combined with a masterful plot, creates a page-turning suspense thriller of the highest order.

Summary: GLAD I TRIED AGAIN....
Review: I picked up this book months ago and gave it away as it just didn't grab me, but I decided to give it another try considering I enjoy books written by Deaver, even though his main characters always know WAY too much than the average detective.

I was really very surprised on how much I really enjoyed this book. The 'Coffin Dancer' is a contract killer who is hunting down 3 people and Lincoln Rhyme, an excellent forensic cop, is trying to find him and WHY he is killing these innocent people at the same time trying to keep them safe as the Coffin Dancer is one sure psycho who is always one step ahead of Rhyme, even though Rhyme can work out exactly what happened at a crime scene even though he has only seen 1 speck of blood..sometimes his powers of deduction are way behind belief.

Overall, this is an excellent thriller, well above the average 'whodunits' as it throws in many unexpected twists and turns but still believable enough to enjoy. This one will keep you up at night trying to finish it!

Summary: A Classic 'Whodunnit' with a twist...
Review: My introduction to Jeffery Deaver was mostly due to the movie, 'The Bone Collector'. After seeing it, I felt that even though I was CERTAIN the book was a hundred times better, I felt that the plot alone was pretty impressive, and decided to give 'The Coffin' Dancer' a go. I was NOT disappointed!

I think the character of Lincoln is far and away one of the best in modern crime/fiction. We are normally force-fed macho-men who are an odd combination of Arnold Schwarzenegger & Albert

Einstein with a little bit of a 1-900-Psychic thrown in for good measure. Lincoln Rhyme represents everything we've come NOT to expect in a crime solver. Not only making this character seem 'real' but making him an honest-to-goodness hero is no small task, but Deaver pulls it off here in GRAND STYLE with 'The Coffin Dancer'.

Who IS The Coffin Dancer? Deaver never keeps you from the WHY he is trying to kill...however how do you catch someone who is almost always one step ahead of you? Rhyme is a forensic genius, and between him and Amelia they solve problem after problem only to find out that they have fallen for the Dancers pre-selected diversion. On and on it goes, cat & mouse until the incredible and might I add, VERY SURPRISING ending. I am rarely taken by surprise THIS much in novels, but I have to admit, this was a complete and totally UN-expected twist--one that I enjoyed in a BIG way. In MY opinion, this story earned 5-stars for the ending ALONE--but thank heavens, the ENTIRE story is all a great combination of what makes a standout 'whodunnit' something really special. 'The Coffin Dancer' truly IS a classic. I can't WAIT to read 'The Empty Chair'.
