Rating: Summary: Page Turner ! Review: Some books are described as a page turner...but don't merit such a rating. This one does !! When a book is soooo good that I stay up into the night reading it...that's a good book. And that's exactly what I did with this one.
Rating: Summary: Well Put Together Review: A very good story. The twists and turns, especially toward the end, were enjoyable. The writing seemed a little wooden at times though. Mr. Deaver tells a good story, but he isn't what I would call a good story teller. Still, a worthwhile read.
Rating: Summary: A Thriller that keeps you guessing. Review: I had a hard time getting into the first chapter+/-, but when I did I just couldn't put it down and finished it in no time. It will really keep you guessing and when you think you have things figured out he will throw some kind of curve in there and it keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Rating: Summary: It left me a little disappointed Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. From the first few pages until the end it was non stop suspense and action. I couldn't put it down. Although, by the end I was a little disappointed. Personally, I think the 'Dancer' sold this story rather than the crime fighting duo Lincoln Rhymes and Amelia Sachs.
Rating: Summary: First rate- keeps you guessing until the final pages! Review: This book is a must read for any fan of Patricia Cornwell. Deaver's characters, Rhyme and Sachs, make Kay Scarpetta look like a rookie. The book is a riveting page turner. I couldn't put it down!
Rating: Summary: Very enjoyable reading! Review: I really enjoyed reading this book... after all the old plot twists, it was refreshing to see something new and unique. I was impressed about how all the loose ends were tied up at the end. I'm now reading "The Bone Collector", which is also as interesting as its sequel. For anyone who likes a good novel, this is an excellent choice!!!
Rating: Summary: Rhymes is almost as good as Scarpetta. Review: While waiting for Patrica Cornwell to get the next of the Kay Scarpetta series out I was pleased to come across Jeffery Deaver's The Coffin Dancer. Intresting page turner that kept me going and on the edge of my seat. Hey I liked it!
Rating: Summary: Awkward follow up to the bone collector Review: Deaver stumbles in the first 100 pages with exposition he's already covered. I liked his characters, but it was much nicer to see them develop in The Bone Collector rathen than being given summary recaps on the nations foremost this and that. In all, the Coffin Dancer paled behind The Bone Collector which is one of my favorite books in recent years. The suspense was more intense, the deadlines established by Deaver more effective. There was even less forensic puzzling emphasized in Coffin Dancer. The standout for Coffin Dancer was the interesting use of sexual relationships, nicely subtle and not run-of-the-mill. Overall, it was worth reading, but certainly read the Bone Collector instead. I'll be awaiting the next in the series, but if they're going to be cranked out Coffin Dancers I won't keep looking for Deaver's name. If you're looking for another read on par with The Bone Collector, try Greg Iles' Mortal Fear - also an excellent read, serial killers, science, and technology all putting in skillful appearance.
Rating: Summary: what a disappointment! Review: after reading the bone collector i was really looking forward to a sequel (there had to be a sequel or linc would have remained true to form and committed suicide at the end of deaver's first rhyme/sachs novel, which is my chief complaint about the bone collector) but i digress. this book was barely readable, the prose more grasping than gripping, the characters poorly developed and the plot just too implausible. the only character i felt any kind of rapport with was the sniper, and oddly enough, i found myself hoping he'd win. deaver must have seen the movie 'speed' because the whole 'cant-drop-below-5,000-feet' in the airplane sequence was just too transparently contrived. sachs was more interesting as a sulky wanna-do-right and rhymes was a heck of a lot better as a cranky depressed intellect. the whole ex-lover who was killed because of his drive came out of no where, there's no way this man who's been characterized as brilliant, etc would continue to beat himself up over the death of an officer who was killed in the line of duty when she knew the risks she was taking... my complaints could go on and on. the ending was okay, i guess, but it came about three hundred pages too late, and i guess i'm the idiot here because not only did i pay for the book, i actually finished it.
Rating: Summary: good until the "surprise ending" Review: I enjoyed this book, until the true identity of the 'Coffin Dancer' was revealed. Actually, I enjoyed the book until I had a chance to think about it. . . and think about how completely ridiculous and unrealistic the surprise twist was- I'm tired of mystery and suspense writers relying upon amazingly unrealistic shock endings, rather than intelligently crafted ones. Perhaps all the talent died with Dame Agatha? One more thing. . . the bit about altitude-sensitive bombs on airplanes: does Deaver have any idea how many times the 5,000ft/Denver thing has been used???
