Rating: Summary: Jeffrey Deaver's best to date. Review: A well crafted mystery featuring Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs, teaming up once again to hunt the Coffin Dancer. An intricate plot with some surprising twists, and enough forensic science to satisfy the die-hard mystery buff. A great read.
Rating: Summary: Definitely Jeffrey's Deaver's Best Book Ever!! Review: I have read all 3 of the Lincoln Rhyme novels and this one rises above all of them. I loved this book and the ending came way out of left field. I never expected the book to end as it did. I love Deaver's work. His style of writings proves he is truly a gifted craftsman at what he does. I will anxiously await his 4th Lincoln installment.
Rating: Summary: One of the best, most enthralling books I've ever read. Review: The character of Lincoln Rhyme first grabs both the attention and the pity of the reader; however, the pity portion is only short lived. Rhyme proves to be a true genius and master of his field when it comes to forensic science and intuition. Deaver does an excellent job in educating the reader in the more techincal forensic terminology but does so in a fasion that does not seem "textbookish". This novel is a definite page turner from the getgo and keeps your interest with a series of unexpected plot twists. Deaver takes the reader along for the ride of a dangerous game of a cat and mouse that leaves you open-mouthed as the killer finally is revealed! A definite must read!
Rating: Summary: A tightly woven page-turner Review: Jeffrey Deaver writes suspense thrillers that satisfy devotees of detective novels and police procedurals. "The Coffin Dancer" is taut and finely crafted, and makes the details of forensic science and physical evidence a large part of the suspense. The plot is as tight, or tighter, than anything Patricia Cornwell or Thomas Harris has written.
Rating: Summary: What a Ride!!! Review: This was my first Deaver read and I am a fan! Coffin Dancer whirled me into the world of a freaked out delusional psychopath and forced me to turn the pages until the music died. What a great twist! Great to see a handicapped person shown in such a powerful and positive light.
Rating: Summary: If you loved "Bone Collector" DO NOT expect the same here. Review: As a huge fan of THE BONE COLLECTOR I ran out and picked up this book, a sequel carrying on the lead heroes from that fantastic novel. Unfortunately I found this book thoroughly unreadable. The plot revolves around a crack assassin so crafty that he has eluded all international authorities for many years, yet he is portrayed as a mind-numbingly neurotic schizophrenic who seems far less functional a human being than Rain Man was. I found myself wondering how the guy could manage to order his own food at a restaurant without breaking out in an attack. This left me in utter disbelief that he could EVER plan and execute the numerous precision hits that Deaver would like us to believe his past and profession dictated. This guy, the Coffin Dancer, is laden with SO many neuroses and psychoses, one on top of the other, that one can't get through a paragraph without becoming bogged down in the manifestations of one or more of them. It just became so ridicilous I eventually had to put the novel down and give up. Obviously Mr. Deaver was working a little too hard here to recreate the "Licoln Rhyme VS. Madman" plot he'd explored so captivatingly in "The Bone Collector". This novel would have been far more interesting, compelling, and convincing if the villain had simply been an assassin... as opposed to a psychopathic obsessive/compulsive hyper-repressed neurotic headcase freak who also HAPPENS to be a gunman for a living. Try one of Deaver's other books and stay clear of this one.
Rating: Summary: Lame Characters and Too Many Detail Flaws Review: Yes, this is a page turner. I was compelled to read it as quickly as possible, but that doesn't mean it was good. Sure this is fiction, but there has to be some plausibility. I just can't accept that every character is the prime member of their profession. It is totally improbably to collect together such a group of brilliant, quick witted, assured, virtually infallible people. What few vulnerabilities and faults the characters have are like cheap T-shirts that they slip on because it's the thing to do. And as for the remarkable coincidence of certain characters' personalities and methods... Obviously, Mr. Deaver thought he had a real winner of a character, so why not use it more than once. The plot details suffer from the same sort of over-simplification. It's little wonder that people have difficult accepting uncertainty from scientists when writers like Mr. Deaver are leading them to believe that you can stuff a random bit of garbage into a gas chromatograph and have a complete identification (right down to the manufacturer!) pop out the other end in less than a minute. Sometimes the price of moving the plot along briskly is just too high.
Rating: Summary: Another formulaic book written "by the numbers" Review: This tired potboiler has just too many twists, turns and just-in-time brilliant deductions by the hero super-sleuth to be credible. And why must the psychopathic killer always be a "latent homosexual"? C'mon, Mr. Deaver. Try for something original next time.
Rating: Summary: How have I missed Lincoln Rhymes all these years? Review: Finally...FINALLY....I have been introduced to the works of Jeffery Deaver. I started reading The Coffin Dancer late last night and finished it late this afternoon. If only being a Mom hadn't forced me to take breaks! I have become an instant addict. Give me more Lincoln Rhymes!
Rating: Summary: This is a natural page turner!!! Review: This is a gripping story. It is not pridectable. I imagined three way for it to end and I was wrong all three times! The story takes on many turns, turns one cannot pridect! Beautifully composed.
