Rating: Summary: A Dreadful Book Review: Jeffrey Deaver is a little too impressed with his own cleverness and slips up badly in this book. Many convoluted plot twists, with absolutely no regard for real life. All of the characters are cartoon personalities and, physically, they're either amazingly attractive or grotesque -- there's no middle ground. The plot concerns two super-brains: the most brilliant criminalist ever born v. the most brilliant killer ever born. These jumbo intellects take turns out-guessing each other in one blazingly brilliant move after another. And yet ... the criminalist neglects to consider that if he sets off an explosion in a residential neighborhood someone might call 911. And the killer allows his unique-in-all-the-world tattoo to be seen in great detail by a witness (who sees absolutely nothing else about the killer). The first "mistake" is made because Mr. Deaver wants to write a specific scene that requires 911 to respond unexpectedly. The second gives him a cool nickname for his killer and, incidently, the title for his book. Nothing in this book seems connected with the human condition as it exists. It's just a bunch of scenes Deaver wanted to write, so he strung them together and called it a book.
Rating: Summary: Not All That Great... Review: The book keeps you wondering what's going to happen next. Once you find out what happens, it's not exactly what was expected (in a depressing way). Rhyme and Sachs are great characters, but this book doesn't compare at all to The Bone Collector. The aviation talk bored me and the twist ending was a bit too drastic to completely grab my attention. Not enough suspense for me. Sorry Deaver, you could do much better.
Rating: Summary: Definitely gripping! Review: Although at times I found the story line a little unbelievable, this is, after all, entertainment. The book was just what I needed for a long flight to Chicago and back. I'll be buying more of Mr. Deaver.
Rating: Summary: A ""state of the art " ending Review: A very well conceived plot, a chess game between two masters, Lincoln Rhyme and the Dancer. The story is quite average until the ending which starts with a outstanding master twist, skyrocketing the tension to a point that instead of reading I was just sort of skimming, the pages of my book turned like a whirlpool without interruption, my whole world focused on the plot and it was so gripping that I forgot about my surroundings. Once again, thank you for the fun Mr. Deaver, I had a very good time enjoying your work and that what it counts for me as a reader.
Rating: Summary: my personal thrill ride of the year Review: I doubt I will read anything soon that will keep me up as long as this book did. Read in two nights, I enjoyed it even more than the first in the series, which has never happened to me before! Keep going, Jeffrey! You just keep getting better!
Rating: Summary: Gripping! Review: Having read this book last year, I decided to read it again and loved it more the second time around. The relationship between Sachs and Rhyme is good. The 'Steven "soldier"' character is compelling - I just love him! Where was Thom (Rhyme's personal assistant) in the film, "The Bone Collector"? Like the other reviewers, you have to read the first Lincoln Rhyme novel - so buy it and ENJOY!
Rating: Summary: It's a page turner, but........ Review: Overall a very good book that definitely keeps your attention, but almost too many twists & turns, and he gets a bit technical......It is worth reading, though.....
Rating: Summary: Lame Continuation of the Bone Collector Review: I truly despied this book. The writing was great. I will the author that much but it just went on and on and on. The story was going NOWHERE! I was so excited to get a book that continued one of my favorite books last year- The Bone Collector. This truly was a waste of my time. I finished it just so I could I have a closure to this book.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic, clear Deaver Review: I read my first Deaver book "The Bone Collector" and this book is just as thrilling. I read a lot of books and it has been a while since I was surprised by the plot twists and surprise endings. Deaver manages to surprise me every time.
Rating: Summary: guilty pleasure Review: I have to admit I enjoy reading this book, like I enjoy watching a Michael Bay movie. Deaver's writing is powerful enough to punch you through the book, I would have LOVED the book if he let-go of some of his unnecessary "twists". If he dares to be less commercial he has the chops to become one of the bests in contempory fiction.
