Rating: Summary: A fine selection of great stories Review: Fk.(...) .This book is a real page-turner, because the stories are really amusing and furthermore very different from each other. If you like authors like King, Koontz, Straub, Kellerman and you read them all or got tired of them (especially of King ;-) ) and you want to read really good horror-books then try Robert McCammon.
Rating: Summary: Great collection of shorts with fantastic novel at end Review: I particularly liked "Something Passed This Way" and "YellowJacket Summer", but thought "Blue World" was absolutely great. McCammon always takes unusual situations and weaves them into very human, touching tales. If you read this review, please Mr. McCammon consider a sequel to Blue World. Would love to see what becomes of Father John (Lucky) Lancaster and Debbie (Debra Rocks) Stoner
Rating: Summary: I Scream Man ! Review: If you have ever read a book and wanted to actually visualize the scenes taking place on your mind's movie screen - then read anything by Mr. McCammon. This is an exceptonal book. It will remind you of the more twisted endings from Twilight Zone shorts and the more visceral scenes from OUter Limits episodes. The subtlety of his writing in some places and the out-and-out shock value doesn't you the warm fuzzies. You will actually feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up after reading "Doom City" & "I Scream Man" and your skin will tingle after "Yellowjacket Summer." Happy reading. Just do it with the lights dim...and at night. You'll weird yourself out.

Rating: Summary: Pin, you are my friend. Review: If you haven't read this one yet, you must. After you do, you'll try to tell people about it and find that you can't. I've lost two copies of this book that way and am about to buy my third. To be fair, some of the stories in this book aren't that good. I'm not going to name any names--ahem, titular--but when he is good, he is very good. Worth the money.

Rating: Summary: Short horror fiction that rivals, if not trumps, King Review: In this sweet set of 13 short stories, McCammon proves once again that he unrivalled in skill at: 1. establishing setting 2. creating and defining complex characters in a hurry 3. creating plots that are, if not unique, then at least original. "Yellowjacket Summer," "Blue World" and "Yellachile's Cage" are fine examples of a short story writer at the height of his skill. Others, like "Something Passed By," "I Scream Man" and "Pin" have their weaknesses, but tackle complex plots and emotions without creating stories that feel stretched out and thin.
Rating: Summary: A Shame McCammon is no Longer Writing... Review: It is a shame that Robert R. McCammon has stopped publishing his work, and this book is a great example why. The highlight of the book was the first story, "Yellowjacket Summer." This story starts in a small town. Everything seems hunky dory. A kid who works at a gas station is talking to the owner about baseball...just a good old American day. Then a van arrives, running out of gas, and discover everything in the town is not as normal as it seems. Another highlight was the Green Falcon story, where a retired actor decides to take care of the bad guys himself by donning his old super-hero uniform. The title story, Blue World, puts us right in the middle of a priest's struggle with his faith manifested in his obsession with a porn star. All of the stories in this book were enjoyable, but these just stood out for me. In my view, McCammon is second only to Stephen King in the horror field, so if you like short horror fiction, this is definitely the book for your. Oh, and if you're wondering why McCammon isn't publishing his work anymore, it's because he wanted to branch out into other genres (namely, into mainstream fiction) but his publishers put constant pressure on him to write horror.
