Rating: Summary: Koontz abandons usual storyline with success. Review: If you've read other Dean Koontz books, you'll be surprised: this one is very different! It seems more like something from Tom Clancy or perhaps Sidney Sheldon, but it's good! It's a classic suspense story: take the hero, place him into a heap of trouble, and then make it even worse...see how he gets himself out of this one... My heart was pounding through the end.
Rating: Summary: HAUNTING, RIVETING & UPLIFTING Review: This truely rivals WATCHERS as his best work to date. A story so chilling with moments of absolute perfection. A man, a woman and a dog against the world-what more is there. The final scene in the "cellar" left me pale with horror and flushed with joy.
Rating: Summary: conspiracy, serial killers, sexy blonde, a dog and more Review: How many times have I listened to this spellbinding story, read by a master Anthony Heald, who brings this story to life with his many voice characterisations. Conspiracy and subversion of justice from the highest levels of the US government (with or without the Presidents knowledge??) A troubled ex cop ex marine and his faithful dog trying to help a young woman who also has a mysterious past. A kindly psycotic serial killer, employed by a nameless all powerfull government agency, who's" MAMA" knows all about you, and can find you.
and thats only in the first 2 chapters , and it keeps getting better.
Flash floods, several car chases, a sexy blonde, blackmailing, murdering agency operative (with problems of her own). and the only people who get hurt or killed are the good guys.
Mr koontz writing and Mr Healds narrative make this a superb experience.
It makes you feel like you should know more about what your friendly neighbourhood government agency is upto these days!!!! Dont make Roy Mad (Peach in, Green out)
Rating: Summary: A cold and chilling look at a future that is quite feasible Review: This is my second Koontz Book. Like the first one that I read (The Watchers) I had trouble putting it down. The story of the framed LAPD policeman had me riveted. As an Australian who sees the US as "the land of the free" as depicted by Hollywood and the press, I was totally shocked to read about the assets seisure laws. I thought that the US, like other western nations adopted the "innocent until proved guilty". This story certainly does not show the US justice system in this light. Koontz has a style that captivated me, stirred emotions in me, and sometimes disturbed me. I could see his scenario as a prequel to Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale", a story of dystopian totalitarianism.
Rating: Summary: Fascinating! Definitely a Must-Read! Review: The book is very good and scary because of the possiblity that it could actually happen and also because it makes it easy to believe that you never really know who your enemies might be. Koontz is such a master of suspense and this book has plenty of it.
Rating: Summary: I loved it! Review: This is my second favorite Koontz book, and I've read most of them. This novel was more like a spy thriller with lots of technology thrown in. This was one of my favorites because it had all the suspense elements of his other novels, without quite the sci-fi element. I felt that I had learned a lot when I finished it. This book is one for those who love thrillers, but don't really like the sci-fi angle of Koontz's other books. Oh, my very favorite is Lightning.
Rating: Summary: Just how sneaky is our government. Review: Again Dean Koontz makes you wonder just how far our government will go. I was unable to put the book down so needless to say I had read it in 36 hrs. His characters in Dark Rivers are very believeable and so are their plights. Just makes me curious about what things he's really found out about our government in his research. I also found the situation believable for the fact that I believe everyone we meet, we meet for a reason. Dean Koontz shows us that in order for the hero (i don't remember the names,it's been 3 yrs since I read this book) to deal with his father his fate was to hook up with the heroine and how their relationship came to a full circle from him going to her home that first night to finally triggering his memory about his father.
Rating: Summary: It's truly a book that makes you go "HUMM?" Review: I am always amazed at how Koontz can make you ask yourself "what if"? I did not expect the book to take such a political stand, but I have to say that I was completely enthralled. I couldn't put the book down. This was a nice departure from the metaphysical norm. I am impressed.
Rating: Summary: A dark and intense thriller, one of the best I've read. Review: Koontz tells several stories at once, each dealing with a "river" within the human heart. One is the love story between the protagonists, Spencer and Ellie. Another is the misguided "compassion" that the antagonist Roy Miro exercises on his fellow people. The last deals with a dark river within the heart, hence the title. It deals with the secret of Spencer's past, on a night in July, when he was 14. That story, told in flashbacks, became the most terrifying thing I've ever read once I finished it. I recommend you read this book if you enjoy a love story, a few good chase scenes, or some action sequences that James Cameron would be of. I promise you won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Koontastic Review: Quite simply, I loved this novel. There's not many more words that one can describe as one of the best books that he has read in his life. It is amazingly creative and imaginative, and even koontz seem to of shed his optimism he sometimes shows in alot of his novels, you can't help thinking that the innocent people who lives are wrecked in this novel could well be yours. And that is one of the fine points of the novel, how close it is to the reality of our society today.... The villian though, is one of the best charcters I have read about. Roy Miro is one of those insane guys who even though they don't look and act crazy, they are. Apart from being a agent of this unknown government agency, he's also a serial murderer, killing certain people whom he believes are unhappy in this world and the next would be be far more pleasant. But, as you read about him through the novel, you can't help liking him and his antics...
