Summary: This is among Koontz's top 5 best books.
Review: An intriguing thriller in which the pace never let's up- you are compelled to keep on reading. This rates in my top 5 of Koontz books, which include WATCHERS, THE BAD PLACE, HIDEAWAY, and MIDNIGHT.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: one of koontz's best
Review: Dark Rivers of the Heart is one of Koontz's better works and if you like his writing style, you will like this one.

Summary: THREE CHEERS FOR "ROCKY DOG"!!!
Review: An avid Koontz fan, this is by far my favorite novel. His portrayal of Spencer Grant and Rocky are A-one! The characters in this book were so real, I began discussing them with friends like they were real people. Rocky is so real, I have to sometimes wonder if Mr. Koontz was a dog in a former life. In reading and listening to this book, you'll see part of your own dog in Rocky. I highly recommend the audio version. The reader, Anthony Heald, does a great job presenting each character, and there are many in this book. This is a book you can listen to over and over and over.

I'm not very articulate when it comes to this sort of thing but I strongly suggest you check it out. If you like dogs, you'll also enjoy Koontz's dogs in Midnight, Dragon Tears, Fear Nothing and Watchers.

Summary: i loved this book
Review: I felt that this is the best of dean koontz's ever increasing collection of novels. I loved it and felt that it was the most well written of his novels also. The characters were rich and full and they developed at a better pace than those in his other books. But best of all was the story it was perfect in almost everysense and i felt that he really reasearched it well and knew what he was talking about in this book. This was definently my favourite but i have loved every one of his books and never had a complaint about any of them. Some others that i reccomend are Intensity, Survivor, Midnight, Phantoms, Strangers and the Face of Fear. Thankyou Mr Koontz for your wonderful books.

Summary: Gripping! One of my favorite Koontz novels!!
Review: I have read quite a few Koontz novels and I find him fascinating. This book is one of my favorites, along with Ticktock and Dragon Tears. If you favored this book, I recommend The Key to Midnight. I was unable to put Dark Rivers down. I loved the plot and the characters (especially Mr. Rocky Dog!)

Summary: The one and only good Koontz book.
Review: I normally don't like Dean Koontz, but I have to admit that this one was a pretty good read.

The flashbacks really drew me into this book at first and kept my curiosity alive through the whole book, otherwise I might not have made it.

The characters were above average by Koontz standards, although they still occasionally do some amazingly stupid things (which seems to be a Koontz trademark). In the very beginning of the book, the girl doesn't show up for the second date so Spencer decides to go break into her house??? Come on!!

Koontz doesn't hold back at all on trying to make the government look bad. When talking about rebel groups that oppose the "Evil" US government, I couldn't help but think of those militia groups and cults that seem to be so popular these days.

For anyone who knows a bit about computers, the technology and "hacking" in this book is not realistic at all, but then again it is a fiction book so I am not going to fault Koontz too much.

The ending was very unrealistic. That would have really bothered me, but the flashbacks kept the book from fizzling out.

Overall, a pretty enjoyable read.

Summary: if you liked Hideaway, and Watchers....
Review: you will like this. It is typical dean koontz, because this is not your typical novel. Will not be able to put it down once they are in Colorado. Characters and plot gets the double--two thumbs up!!

Summary: Good Plot but gets Too Involved
Review: Spencer Grant is a man with a dark past. He is a former Los Angelos police office who worked in the computer division but left, making sure to erase himself in many computer databases.

He meets a woman in a bar (the waitress) and becomes curious when she doesn't show up for work the next day. He goes to her house (because he followed her home from work the previous evening unknown to her) and let's himself in. The place is cleared out and a picture of a cockroach is nailed to the wall. While looking around, a SWAT team enters the home and he barely escapes. Finding nothing in the paper that would explain why they were at her house, he decides to investigate her himself.

Suspense is good but as the plot reveals itself it becomes way to complex. The middle and ending of the book read more like a movie script.

I'm not into government coverups, etc. so this didn't turn out to be my cup of tea but I did like his writing style in this book. Each time Spencer had a flashback about his past he revealed a little more about himself and why he is so tormented. Works real well by itself -- he didn't need to through in the government and tie it all up in a bundle.

Summary: Koontz is an amazing writer, this is his best, excellent!
Review: I have just started reading Dean Koontz. His earlier books are all wonderful. I've enjoyed all of his books, but so far Dark Rivers of the Heart remains my favorite. Koontz has a great imagination and is a gifted writer. The book has an excellent plot and is a suspenseful thriller from beginning to end! Spencer's secret past was effectively told through frightening flashbacks that provided the reader with unexpected terror throughout the story. (What a childhood he had!) All the characters were believable, and I especially loved the dog and Roy. Dark Rivers of the Heart should be read by everyone.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The Best, almost by a long shot.
Review: This pageturning book has it all--great storyline, action, thrills, colorful characters, suspense, romance, mystery, horror and high-tech wizadry. This is much more believable then other Koontz books, but just as suspenseful. Although I said this is his best book almost by far, that takes nothing away from his other books, which are excellent. Three I would recommend are Intensity, Watchers, and Winter Moon.
