Rating: Summary: A good story Review: A refreshing story about a mage/thief. Sham is a great character, strong, funny, capeable, and multi-talented. She could have been a bit more dangerous, in my opinion. Kerim is limited, but since the story is in 1st person, that person being Sham, he himself is less important than how she feels about him. The minor characters of Talbot and Dickon, and the selkie/stableboy add so much to the story. The story of a homesick demon brutally murdering people was well written, and convincing. Sham goes undercover as Kerim's silly, and fashionably daring mistress. Sham's magic is the only thing standing between the magicless Easterners and a deadly demon. Definately try to get a hold of this one.

Rating: Summary: I got my nickname from this book! Review: I am grateful to this book for several reasons. First and foremost, it provided me with an enjoyable read. Secondly, it ended my long search for a nickname. Shannon became Shamera, and Shamera became a devoted fan of this book. Well, I'll be going now, I just wanted to thank this author for the name. (And please don't sue me for copyright infringement!)
Rating: Summary: Entertaining Reading Review: I bought this book based on the summaries I had read, and it was definitely a good choice. A good light read, I finished it in a few nights. Would love to see some more adventures with these characters.
Rating: Summary: One of the worst I've read & I've read some pretty bad ones Review: I bought this book from Amazon partially due to all of the great reviews it got. Well after forcing myself to finish this book, I'll I can say is all of the high marks came from friends and relatives. The book starts out ok and is fairly interesting for about the first 70 pages and then its all down hill from there. Even though it is short by today's fantasy doorstopper standards it dragged. There was a lot of repetition and the plot felt like it was being pulled out of a hat. The writing was uninspired, the magic like someone's bad attempt at describing a D&D game and the scenes contrived. The resolution came out of the blue and while potentially interesting was exactly the opposite of what had been explained thus far. The only bright notes were the strong multi-talented heroine and the amusing dialogue between the hero and heroine. This book hints at its potential to be a really good light unsophisticated read. Too bad the author and worse editor stopped before they got through another half dozen rewrites. Just stunned and what gets published.
Rating: Summary: Stong female and male characters, excellent humor, good book Review: I enjoyed the strong female lead character and the male characters were also strong, intellegent warm and sensitive. It's a great fantasy with plenty of mystery and magic.
Rating: Summary: A nice one-day read. Good, light entertainment. Review: I look for fantasies that are light reading; I don't need _War and Peace_ for my entertainment reading. _When Demons Walk_ satisfied my craving very well. While I found the shifts of point-of-view somewhat offputting, they weren't fatally so, and the plot, while a bit predictable, was fast-moving and kept my interest, the characters well-rounded and the setting realized enough to make it worth my time. Not an award-winner, but a good evening's read, and the first thing I did when finished was search Amazon for Briggs' other works. I'll be watching for her.
Rating: Summary: Not her best but still a good read Review: I love Patricia Briggs but discovered her late, after her early books were out of print and so hard to find and expensive. So I was excited about the chance to download a couple as e-books. When Demons Walk is her 3rd book and it seemed a bit rough to me even though her engaging writing style is in evidence. The story is pretty light and moves along at a fast clip. The charactors are likeable and the heroine, Sham, is quite strong and competent from the start of the story. However, I think it needed better editing. There were some rather abrupt plot points- at one point, the hero's brother is a suspect and Sham notes that the hero, Kerim, doesn't seem surprised at the idea. But this is never followed up with any evidence to show us why this brother might be capable of such violence. Then, when the brother is cleared in a rather unfortunate and final manner, we are told that the hero grieves but his grief seems almost an afterthought. I think Kerim's mother really should have been fleshed out more, also. The romance felt kind of formulaic in some points- particularly the moment when she realizes she is in love but sees their different social stations as a barrier. And the blooming of their love, while inevitable and no surprise to the reader, did not flow in a natural manner: there was just the rote transition from grudging respect to witty banter to full blown love. The chemistry between the two was good, though. If you haven't read any Patricia Briggs, I recommend Dragon Bones and Dragon Blood. These are later works with much more depth and subtlety than When Demons Walk. However, if you are like me and have read all her currently-in-print books and want more, definitely read this book- it was a lot of fun.

Rating: Summary: Couldn't put the book down Review: I must say that this book was among the best I have ever read and I have read plenty of books varying from sci-fi to literature. It's light reading but nonetheless great to read. I finished it in a day because I just couldn't put it down. After I read this one I went in search for more. LOVE THEM ALL though I would like to see more books written on these characters. Like I said, it's great reading material. Quite enjoyable to read. I hope she wites more and soon!
