Rating: Summary: A book you want to read and a story you must finish. Review: Emmett Clifford brings readers to the edge of their seats in his mystery novel, Night Whispers. In this contemporary mystery, detective Cody Rainwalker leads the reader on a mission to solve the devious crimes of Scanner, a psychopath who chooses his victims by cell phone. Every page becomes a piece in solving the puzzle, but also a dreaded step in discovering who will become the next victim. Clifford fans are sure to insist Night Whispers is only the beginning of Cody Rainwalker's detective career.
Rating: Summary: A skin-crawling good read! Review: Emmett Clifford has created a wonderful new character in Cody Rainwalker. He sets up a very creepy killer and keeps the reader guessing until the very end "whodunnit" with more plot twists and turns than a switchback mountain road. Good characters, wonderful setting, crisp dialogue and narration that flows makes this book a good read.

Rating: Summary: Absorbing work; author shows genuine talent Review: Highwater Town, Tennessee is a quiet mountain village where violent crime is non-existent. That is until someone viciously murdered Justine Willingham and Sanford Sharpless. Since the deceased were sleeping together, everyone figures that Justine's spouse, Barry, is the killer. Barry's sister hires former resident Cody Rainwalker, a private investigator, to uncover the truth that she expects will prove her sibling is innocent. However, the murders do not stop with the two lovers. A serial killer, who calls himself Scanner, has begun to pile up a list of victims in which he leaves behind an identifying card: a blue ribbon tied to the genitals. Cody works furiously to find the killer even as he links the victims' deaths to a real estate deal (not Whitewater - this one is easier to understand even for Mr. Starr or Mr. Jordan) that has gone sour. NIGHT WHISPERS is a very well-written regional mystery that will please fans of Appalachia who-done-its. Even though much of the support cast is stereotypes that cause occasional reading road blocks due to their clutter, Cody is a super sleuth. The story line is at times humorous, suspenseful, and fast-paced, demonstrating that Emmett Clifford has plenty of talent. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Don't drive the back roads at night after you read this one! Review: I couldn't put this book down! I was so wrapped up in the characters and what would happen next that when I had to stop reading for a while it stayed with me and kept those wheels turning trying to figure out "who dunnit". I truly enjoyed this book. I hope we get to read more about Cody, he really comes to life.
Rating: Summary: Really held my attention Review: I read "Night Whispers" through in one sitting. The plot was compelling, the characters real and the dialogue natural. It kept me turning the pages, and I was unable to second-guess the plot. How do I rate the book to someone who hasn't read it? Let me put it this way, I gave my copy to my Mother to read after I finished it.
