Rating: Summary: Guilty pleasure Review: Since I got old enough to distinguish between good and bad writing, V.C. Andrews has been a guilty pleasure for me. I started reading her books way back when "Flowers in the Attic" came out, and I've read every one of her actual books as well as all the ones ghost-written by Andrew Neiderman (which now far outnumber the ones written by Andrews herself). They all have a formula: young girl suffers the loss of a parent, discovers that she's not who she thought she was, goes to live with a new family who are blood-related but strangers, and they make life miserable for her. "Rain" follows the formula (though it does depart by having her grandmother actually be an ally), but the initial setting -- the tough inner city -- is definitely a departure for the Andrews franchise. "Rain" is more up-to-date, too; Andrews and Neiderman's other main characters were usually a lot more innocent than Rain despite having grown up in tough circumstances. So, is it a great book? No. But if you're an "Andrews" fan, you'll probably enjoy it anyway. I did, although I don't like admitting it!
Rating: Summary: what? Review: It shouldn't be so much like Dawn. Come on! This is a NEWbook... why rehash an old plot? the fill-in-the blank plots writtenin some of the other review is true for each and every v. c. andrews book; it was good w/ Flowers, Heaven, and Dawn, but how much longer can it go on with people still being interested? Aren't you tired of reading the same book over and over again? END
Rating: Summary: Same story line? Review: Does V.C. Andrews ever come up with a new story line? She uses the same poor-girl-finds-new-rich-family story line. If you have read any of her other works, you will understand what i am saying. Same old. Same old.
Rating: Summary: Rain Review: This was one of the best books with the name of V.C. Andrews on it for a long time. It brought you in and really made you care about Rain and her life.
Rating: Summary: okay Review: I liked parts of this book. The characters were pretty run of the mill V.C. Andrews, but I liked the message it sent out at the beginning of the book, when Rain wasn't afraid to be different even though everyone thought she was stuck up and she didn't fit in. I also liked how she didn't come across as bratty and spoiled like the wildflowers. But then the second part got boring and even though Rain was in a better environment, she still seemed stuck up to me, so I really didn't like her character that much, and the plot seemed to borrow from every other V.C. novel that's been written.
Rating: Summary: VCA Must Be Rolling Over in her grave.... Review: Dawn, I mean Ruby, i mean Rain, yeah, Rain was just the same old thing only repackaged in a different form. It gets very tiresome that the ghostwriter doesn't use his own material when he writes these novels then they would be very exciting and might actually be good. Not really looking forward to Secrets of the Morning, oops, i mean Lighting Strikes. With the mini-series, I lost all faith in the VCA francise for it seem to degrade VCA's memory and writing talent. His excuse for writing the crappy mini-series is that he felt that VCA would have moved onto today's problems. If she didnt write about today's problems when she was alive, why would she write about them now if she was still living? It's just an excuse to churn out these sappy TEEN oriented novels and kick us older readers to the side. So, mr author of the DEvil's Advocate, i read your the novels that you wrote under your real name why cant you add some of your writing to VCA?
Rating: Summary: RAIN Review: I THOUGHT RAIN WAS AN EXCELLENT BOOK AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE TO COME OUT. I WAS KIND OF DISAPPOINTED IN THE ENDING I THOUGHT MAYBE IT COULD OF ENDED WITH MORE OF A CLIFF HANGER. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
Rating: Summary: A different twist Review: I really enjoyed this book. I have read just about all of the V.C. Andrews's books. This one has a different twist, not only do we go from a girl being transported to a higher class but we have one finding out that she is part of different race. Rain not only has to deal with a new economic level, but a whole social level as well. I think Rain will turn out to be one of the strongest characters yet. I think it is a must read.
Rating: Summary: RAIN - I loved this book! Review: Well I would have to say that this is one of my favorite VC Andrews books. I picked it up when it first hit the shelves and couldn't believe how much I got into reading it. It really pulls at your heart strings. I cannot wait until the next book comes out. I really want to know what happens with Rain.
Rating: Summary: I'm a born again fan! Review: I was very disappointed with the last two series - Orphans and Wildflowers...so much so that I never even finished the first book in the Wildflowers series. I was skeptical to pick up Rain, but once I did, I couldn't put it down. I was thoroughly surprised and delighted with this character, as she is not the naive girl that you usually see in VC Andrews' books. She is strong-willed and determined and an excellent heroine. I liked that the Grandmother was not made out to be an evil and wicked woman, as is usually portrayed in Andrews' books. I am looking forward to reading more!
