Rating: Summary: Unromantic and pretty horrible, really. Review: Ardeth, a graduate student, is kidnapped one day as she's already terrified about some friends of hers who have disappeared. She isn't killed, as she fears, but thrown into a cell to be the food source for a vampire, Dmitri Rozokov, who has been a prisoner since he woke from a hundred-year sleep a couple of weeks earlier. But being fed on every night can't really do a lot for someone's health - how long can Ardeth stay alive? Or will she choose some other way of surviving? This book isn't a love story. Get that idea out of your head straight away. If you want a vampire romance, go somewhere else. There is a nice kiss while Ardeth is still a prisoner, but that's about it for romance. For example, after Ardeth's transformation and their break for freedom (referred to in other reviews), they go on a killing spree, and then Baker refers, in ONE SENTENCE, to them having sex among the dead bodies. Nope, not one bit romantic. In any case, Ardeth and Dmitri then spend much of the remainder of the book separated. The body-count increases from then on, and the violence and brutality continues. Not a pleasant read. This book won't be staying in my house, and nor will I be reading anything else by Nancy Baker. I like vampire romances, but this certainly doesn't qualify.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Vampire Story Review: I am a collector of vampire novels, and after reading a few recommendations, I picked up Nancy Baker's "Kiss of the Vampire" (which by the way is also "The Night Inside)." Do not make the mistake of picking up both books like I did. It is the exact same story. Ardeth is a graduate student living at college. She just finished a project with two of her friends (also graduate students). She is saddened when one of her friends and ex-lover dies, but that sadness also becomes wariness when the second person she was working on the project with also dies. Also, she felt at one point that she was being followed. Her fears become reality, when while jogging on campus one morning, she is literally snatched by two men, thrown in a van, and knocked out. When Ardeth recovers she finds herself locked in a cell, with a vampire in another cell next door named Dimitri Rozokov. She finds out that she has been kidnapped to be his food source. She is terrified of the vampire, but as time passes, she realizes she is even more horrified by her sadistic kidnappers (who are making [some] snuff films for profit using the vampire). As the days pass, Ardeth begins to see the vampire Dimitri as a person, and as they get closer, she realizes her and Dimitri will have to come up with a plan to outsmart the kidnappers. But just how far is she willing to go to live? I don't want to give too much away, but this is an excellent, excellent story. I really enjoyed all of the characters. I would highly recommend (...).

Rating: Summary: Read this book! Review: I liked it -because- it wasn't like Anne Rice. The original title was better, because while the book involves vampires, it's more of an unlikely, and very moving, love story involving people who are very different from each other. It also raised some interesting questions -what does it mean to be human? How does one remain ethical in an unethical world? Is individual suffering enough of an excuse for inflicting pain on others?
Rating: Summary: a good vampire book!! Review: i liked it beacuse it is different from all other vampire books. This has nothing to do with garlic, crucifixes or something silly like that......a great book..read it!!!
Rating: Summary: A sexy lady with human desires and inhuman needs. Review: I loved it. It's as good as her first and I look forward to the next. I think women write better sex horror books than they are given credit for.
Rating: Summary: suspenseful, and a bit graphic! Review: I picked this up because the catchy title. I was hard to put down in the begining, but towards the end it wasn't as good. It was kinda confusing, I would have prefered something gothic, but it was pretty good overall. I just loved the main heroine, whatta change. I'm glad see found out how to have a good time, if you get me. now it needs a sequel!!
Rating: Summary: Compelling Vampire Book Review: i really enjoyed this book, being an anne rice fan, i enjoy reading about new orleans, and the settings, but nancy baker writes about a city i live near, and that made it more personal for me
Rating: Summary: A great read! Review: I really liked this book. It was different from the ones I usually read. A lot more blood and all that. But it wasn't so bad that I couldn't understand why it was happening. I understand from a reader's comments that there are two more. I have searched every where and they are not to be found. I hope that they print them in the US.
Rating: Summary: This book sucks because..... Review: I'm a big vampire book fan but "Kiss of the Vampire" is a dull boring book. The plot was very slow and the story seems to have no point to it. Please don't waste $6 bucks on this book
