Rating: Summary: What an experiment! Review: Skyler is a test subject living on an island with other test subjects being attended by a physicians. Jude is a journalist in New York. He an Skyler could be twins, but they're not. Science has made a breakthrough and it is being used for evil purposes. Skyler and Jude unravel the bizarre and terrifying story and live to tell the tale.
Rating: Summary: Just 3 Stars Review: I dunno, maybe it's me. It was an interest premise but the book bogged down after the science was explained. It wasn't that the story got boring, it just slowed down. In my opinion, Darnton threw too many caveots at our heros. If he had cut some of the unnecessary fluff out of the story I would have given it another star. I think there were a few too many bumps in the road. The cave-in is a bit cliche anymore - of course our heroes would escape - there was 150 pages left! Neanderthal was much better.
Rating: Summary: Good enough to almost make me glad the plane was late. Review: My plane was late and I had finished my book. The extra books were in my checked luggage. I picked this book up in the airport gift shop thinking "any port in a storm" and not expecting to enjoy it. Wow! The time flew. I became interested in the characters and found myself finally walking onto the plane while still reading. Almost made me glad to be delayed.
Rating: Summary: Good Science; Weak Plot Review: The science was a fun read. Darnton researched it well. However, the plot was not credible in certain aspects, and the dialogue was Clive Cussler-esque and trite. Darnton's view of human nature is darkly incredible.
Rating: Summary: Experiment Successful! Review: Just finished it this morning & am disappointed there isn't more to read! Rarely does a "Creighton-type" book exude so much character ALONG with high tech science. When a journalist meets his clone, who escapes from an island where they are bred for an unspeakable purpose, his life unravels, leaving him to wonder what's chance and what's conspiracy. I found myself rooting for the main characters, which is always a good sign of identifying with them, but when you feel conflicted about the "villians", and if they really are evil, then a masterwork of characterization is at hand. Darnton's first - Neanderthal - is just as amazing.
Rating: Summary: an experiment that could be the real Review: the only reason i picked up this book was because i loved the neanderthal, i read it twice. then i picked up darton's experiment, i was hooked. i read the book within four hours straight. the book has a well rounded plot, it is very logical and easy to follow. John Darton brings to life the the scary realization of not only what cloning can do, but also the mistakes our governments make, many fatal and not always short term. the book is also very adventurous, very good scenery; the island, a paradise, but with a bad feeling. however some parts are difficult to comprhend, the end for instances, but that is for you to figure out. i highly recommend the book for an adventurous escape novel, with some stunning realizations
Rating: Summary: Could have been great... Review: I found The Experiment to be ok, but given the subject matter, could have been much better researched. Something that disappointed me was the existence of some major timeline inconsistencies regarding one incident in particular ( if I mention it, it will ruin the book for you - so I won't ) ... let's just say that it is so fundamental that I had to put it out of my mind just so that I could finish the book. Took much of the credibility from the story and the author. Still, it was pretty good.
Rating: Summary: GOOD SCIENTIFIC THRILLER Review: Skyler is a test subject, and he has lived in the lab for as long as he can remember, but when fellow test subjects turn up dead, he must escape to keep his life.Jude is a journalist in New York City working on a story about a murder victim who has had their face and fingertips removed. Skyler escapes, and through a twist of fate he will end up in NYC, once there he will come face to face with Jude, and they will discover one shocking fact...they share the same face. Working with Tizzie, Jude's girlfriend and expert on identical twins, the three will begin an investigation to uncover the mysteries of science, and it will lead them to startling discovery. "The Experiment" starts fast, and keeps on moving, leading the reader on a mesmerizing journey through scientific hell. The plot is a modern and exciting version of "The Island Of Dr. Moreau". John Darnton is the bestselling author of "Neanderthal", and I must say he out did himself with this one; a thrilling novel that will grab you quick, and have you racing to see the outcome. Rating: Summary: Stretching in the end Review: After first 50 pages, the book caught my imagination. And upto the next 200 pages, it continued its hold. But there wasn't a lot to say after that and the interest wades. One good thing about this book is that it doesn't judge too much the moral side of the scientists conducting this experiment. Rather it concentrates on the events and the scientific things in the field of genetics. (I read that the author was an award winning journalist. Perhaps thats why its more about facts first and sentiment next). Also the book kind of builds up for the ending while there isn't any big suspense revealing itself when we reach the last 100 or so pages. All in all, its a good book I would rate it 3 to 3.5 out of 5.
Rating: Summary: The Experiment Review: OK, I don't now about all of you people rating the book when you are halfway through. You at least need to wait untill you finish it. I just did, and I loved it! I couldn't put it down, I thought it was really good and creative. What made it even better wa that parts of it were beleivable and caused you to think about the possiblity of something like this actually happening.
