Rating: Summary: Ransom Review: -This will be my secound book of Lois Duncan that I have read. i really like her work. This book, Ransom, could happen anywhere! Thats why I like it so much. It is so true. The people in the book sound like some people I really know. The way the kids are kidnapped is so real that I wouldn't be surprized if it has happened somewhere before. These 5 kids were vey brave. I don't know if I could do the same thing that they did or for that matter HAD to do. I would reconmend this to almost anyone I know.
Rating: Summary: REALLY,REALLY GOOD BOOK!!!!!!!!!!! Review: This book is really exciting, so exciting that I had to skip a bunch of pages just to see what happened next. It is a definate page turner.I REALLY recommend it to all mystery, and horror story fans. But, if you do get scared often, I wouldn't recommend it to you. This book is about five kids getting kidnapped. In order to be set free, their parents have to pay 15,000 dollars ransom. The kids get tired of waiting and then try to escape. The rest you will have to find out on your own. But I REALLY,REALLY recommend this to you!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Coming home from school and the bus goes the wrong way! Review: Coming home from school riding on the bus and suddenly the bus goes the wrong way. You get this feeling that something is wrong when there are five people left on the bus and they all live on the same road. Then the bus stops and picks up a man walking on the road and you're wondering where is our regular bus driver. Then you're coming up to a house-like lodge and these people you don't know tie you together. You start to realize you have been kidnapped. That's how the book Ransom starts out. It's a mystery and adventure about kids who live on a road where only rich kids live. The people who took them start to call their parents saying, "If you want your kids back you have to pay." You should really read this book if you're into adventures and mysteries. I would recommend this book from ages 10 to adult. If you like to go on adventures, then take a ride with Glenn, Bruce, Dexter, Marianne, and Jesse...
Rating: Summary: Good, not great... Review: "Ransom" is a worthwhile read, but it falls a little short of Ms. Duncan's high standard. If you want a really good kidnapping story, check out "The Solid Gold Kid" by Norma Fox Mazer.
Rating: Summary: Ransom Reflections Review: Ransom was, in my opinion, not one of the best books I have ever read. I main reason I did not particularly like this book is because it was an action book with not a very surprising plot. The plot was mainly some kids get kidnapped and then they escape, not that original. Also I found that the parents not calling the police and Rita just letting the kids walk around the house not that realistic. If I were the parents of those children I would of called the police right away! I think that the author could of done a better job at writing the book. As I mentioned in the paragraph above I didn't like the plot and some of the choices the characters made in the story. I thought that the way that Lois Duncan wrote his book made what was going to happen next very predictable. I thought that the characters in the book were okay. I thought that the characters were okay because they had lots of background and detail to them. You also knew about their family and their whole life. My least favorite character, though, was Glenn. I do not think that anyone could like Glenn. I think that Glenn was a person that missed out on certain emotional traits when he was a kid. My favorite character of all, and the one that I most identify with is Jesse. Even though I identify most with Jesse we still have nothing in common with her. The things that I do identify most with Jesse, though, is that she is kind, nice, & caring. The ending of the book was not the best ending in the world. It was, as though, the book was a fairy tale and there had to be a happy ending no matter what. None of the kids could dye or anything. The only thing that I did not get about the ending was the representation of the silver church. All in all Ransom was not one of my favorite books. I would recommend it to people who enjoy action and adventure books. I would not recommend it to people who like books with a very predictable plot.
Rating: Summary: School Bus Kidnapping Review: A Review by Ashley This story is about five kids Dexter, Glenn, Marianne, Bruce and Jesse. The five kids ride the bus home, like a regular school day home but instead something else happens. These two guys Buck and Juan kidnap them. That is about all I can tell but I really recommend you read this book because there is a lot of really good suspense. For example, the kids have been at the cabin in the middle of nowhere for about a day and they want to escape some how but Dexter says, "If someone tries to leave, someone would be sure to get hurt, or maybe even killed. Fists don't add up to much against a gun." (Pg. 87) You never know what is going to happen next and I love that when I'm reading books. I liked how you never know what was going to happen next, and if you love mystery books, you will love this book. I found this book, very interesting, but we have to keep up with what is going on throughout the book to get the end. I would recommend this book to any age group and people that love a good mystery book. What I didn't like about this book was the ending was kind of confusing for me because I really didn't pay attention to the little things throughout the book and you have to do that to get the book.
Rating: Summary: Ransom Review: A review by: Cody This story is about five kids, Jesse, Glen, Bruce, Dexter, and Marianne. It begins with them all getting on the bus and see that they don't have their usual bus driver. They then are kidnapped and held for ransom. The first two paragraphs were really slow; so don't let the beginning fool you on how the book is going to be. For example, "it looks" he said in a strange, flat, voice,"as thought we are being kidnapped."(p.20) It took them to the first twenty pages to realize that they are going to be kidnapped. This story was really serious, and suspenseful. "That's the engine," Glen exclaimed. "It's the station wagon! Buck is trying to follow us!" "We've got to get off the road!"(p.131) I could almost open the book and turn to a suspenseful part. "They killed him." Bruce had repeated the statement blankly. "Whom did they kill? What are you talking about?"(p.87) The point of view kind of jumped around, but not enough to be confusing. For Example, chapter four, the author is using the kidnappers point of view, "I'm calling about you daughter." "About Jesse?" The statement caught her by surprise. (p.49) Then chapter five, the author switches back to the teenager's point of view. "If only we could get our hands on the gun . . ." he began slowly, and Dexter said, "We can't. I've thought about it, and there's no way. (p.67) Sometimes when you try something risky, you don't always make it or survive. The choices that the kids make are very logical decisions and you will probably support them. It's awesome.
Rating: Summary: pretty good Review: This book has a lot of cliffhangers. Five kids were kidnapped for ransom. They learn to become friends with each other. They learn things about each other no one else knows. A "hero" becomes a not so great character. The wimp is awesome in heart. The strong guy isn't so strong after all. The boring girl falls in love. And the beutiful girl with big beliefs finds out they aren't true. Who is who? You have to read the book to find out.
