Summary: A Fresh Take
Review: Bite has to be the most unique vampire tale I've read of recent years, a pulse-pounding exercise in suspense and ambiguity. In a cynical world, Laymon taps into a vein of seat-edging ambiguity which leaves you uncertain and perturbed for many nights after the last page is read. A vampire, after all, is make believe. We know that, the characters know that - but does the vampire? A superb case of 'Is it, isn't it?', with so much going on it keeps your senses overloaded with doubt from the word go. Read it.

Summary: Bite a classic from THE BEST horror author
Review: Bite is an action packed thriller from one of the masters of modern horror. Anyone who likes Steven King or Dean Koontz and who may not have caught Laymon yet will love his writing style. If Bite is your first Laymon then you will be left wanting more. Buy this book you will be glad you did.

Summary: Vampire horror treat with teeth!
Review: This book stands out above everything I've read over the past year, it's a wild, wicked and sometimes hilarious ride and I recommend it to horror, thriller and crime fans alike. You've seen all the TV vampire stuff from Buffy to the old Hammer movies but nothing, and I mean nothing, compares to BITE. I started reading this book around midday and finished it in the early hours of the following morning, the plot doesn't slow for a single breather it just plunges on through a myriad of twists and fascinating characters and I would challenge anybody to put it down before the end. The opening chapter alone is worth the books cover price...and it just gets BETTER after that. It's exciting and unpredictable and shocking and gory and very, very sexy. Take my advice, if you appreciate good thriller fiction go get bitten by Laymon; you'll be glad you did. And you won't need me to tell you to check out his back catalogue.

Summary: You're in for a roller-coaster ride with this one
Review: If you haven't read a Richard Laymon book, then I strongly recommend you rush down to your local store and snatch up every title you can find -- you're missing out. Don't know which one to read first? BITE would be a great place to start.
This book demonstrates Laymon's range perfectly with a constant mix of horror, humour, action and sex. And it's an orignial twist on the old vampire genre which keeps you guessing right up until the end. Laymon has a real knack of creating 3-dimensional characters which everyone can relate to. And from page one you want these people to survive.
If you want a truly entertaining page-turner, go buy BITE -- you will not be disappointed. You will also want to work your way through everything else Laymon has written...just like I have. Have fun!

Summary: GREATEST VAMPIRE NOVEL YOU'LL EVER READ
Review: What, exactly, can you say about the greatest horror author of all time? I guarantee (and trust me, you will too, after you read BITE) that Laymon's books are the most entertaining pieces of fiction you'll ever come across. Don't waste your time reading this, read BITE. Then read absolutely ANYTHING you can get by the master.

Summary: One of his weaker books
Review: I have read just about all of Richard Laymon's books. This one of his is the most recent one I have read and I was rather disappointed with it. Perhaps I have read to many of his books but they are beginning to blend all into one. The usual characters man/woman and the perverted characters they meet up with. It was nevertheless an ok read but definitely not his best.

Summary: A Short Story on Amphetamines
Review: This novel is somewhat unusual in that it really has the feel of a short story. There is not a great deal of "depth" here. This is the first Laymon book I have read, so I don't know whether or not the writing in this book is typical of Laymon's other works. In a way, this lack of depth works in Bite; this kind of tale would seem to require a brisk, off-the-cuff pace to it--otherwise, the reader would have too much time to question the things going on here. Basically, the protagonist drops everything and quickly agrees to help an old flame murder a "vampire" (while this vampire is indulging in carnal pleasures with this man's "true love"), and then agrees to haul the body out to the desert for some forgettable reason. Along the way, the couple ends up meeting three of the most unusual, unlikeable (and not in a good way) characters in the world, fighting with, for, and against them in turn, all the while facing ridiculous situations that could easily have been avoided. Of course, they still find time to pause from their bloody, exhausting efforts in order to "enjoy each other's company." I ended up hoping everyone in this book would die. As I try to describe this book now, it really does sound like a stupid, hackneyed premise. Action alone keeps this story going; when all is said and done, there is no real story here--just action. The reader is not going to learn any universal truths in this book (and this is not the author's intention, anyway), but Laymon does manage to keep your interest throughout by never letting the pace of the story slow down. This is a good read for people seeking entertainment; those who would approach this book with a more serious mindset will be disappointed.

Summary: unfortunately this book "bites"
Review: This book had an OK beginning and a good ending. Everything in between was pretty bad. I've read a few novels by Laymon now and this is the first one that I thought was really bad. The dialogue (as other people have said) is terrible. Some of the conversations between the main characters are redundant and unrealistic. The plot of the novel isn't terrible but it isn't great either. I wouldn't recommend this novel. It was not an enjoyable read. It just goes to show that you really can't judge a book by its cover.
