Summary: Classic Laymon - Another Brilliant Novel
Review: Richard Laymon is one of the most underrated writers today. His novels gives new meaning to the old cliche "A real page turner". If you haven't read a Laymon, you're really missing out on a great literary experience. "Bite" is pure Laymon - great characters, a terrific storyline and a surprising ending. I certainly hope that the US finally discover what a great writer he is.

Summary: 'Fang - tastic'
Review: I found this book thoroughly enjoyable but not the usual Laymon level of gore. As usual mother disapproved (that's a good thing). BITE wasn't quite what I was expecting but it I loved it anyway. I was glad that it didn't follow the same (jugular) vein as 'THE STAKE'. Can't wait for the new one.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Among the greatest of a great and underappreciated writer.
Review: Richard Laymon seems to get better with each book. Bite is an off beat vampire story, written in typical slam bang, but with tongue in cheek Laymon style. Nice to see this author being published again in his native U.S.

Summary: A novel that sinks its teeth in and never lets go
Review: RIchard Laymon's BITE is one of the most original and truly horrific vampire novels to be found on the shelves. Laymon knows how to tell a non-stop tale that starts off with real power and simply continues to go full-throttle forward. Readers won't be disappointed with this startling and affecting novel.

Summary: BITE AND DON'T LET GO
Review: "When you do something like that, you know...arrange for someone's death...even if he's the scum of the earth...you end up paying. You've gotta suffer for it. It's in the rules."- Cat, Chapter 28, page 159 of Bite.

You said it, kid.

What can you say about Laymon's BITE? Where do you begin??

In the film "Torn Curtain", Alfred Hitchcock set out to prove once and for all that it was very hard to kill someone. In fact, the scene that has Paul Newman trying to kill some nasty commie spy stumbles on and on for over ten minutes 'cause the guy just wouldn't kick the bucket.

In the film "Thelma and Louise", we find out just how nasty people in every day life can be, and just how nasty normal people have to become if they are to survive the vicious world that is the US highway network.

Both films worked. Both were successful.

Both pale into insignificance compared to BITE.

The book can only be described as a cross between Nosferatu and Thelma & Louise and The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. The cover blurb on the book makes it read like some straight vampire novel, but it's much, much more. It's a "road" book, a romance, a comedy, a thriller and more.

Yep, just what we expected from Richard Laymon.

Could he improve after the fabulous BODY RIDES??

Yep! Horror just got a new meaning!

QUAKE made me scared to take a bath. BODY RIDES made me scared to go to a video store. Now, BITE has turned me off desert trips and highway travel! It also contains one of the most scary encounters I have ever read! Don't want to give too much away....but it involves walking through the desert at night, scanning ahead with a flash-light and what you can encounter....just standing there! Very creepy, scary stuff. A genuine fright that made me stop reading....I had to get a drink!

A genuine winner!

Go sink your fangs into this one now!

Summary: More Bite for your Buck
Review: This is a great story that begins where most vampire novels end. If this book were a film at Universal Studios, it would be called "On the Road meets Interview with a Vampire". The fun begins when the vampire is killed, and the protaganist and his ex-girlfriend have to get rid of the body. The book really takes off from here and the Laymon roller coaster ride begins. Richard has a way of pacing a book that seems so effortless, but takes off with reckless abandon. DO NOT OPERATE HEAVY MACHINERY WHILE READING THIS BOOK. Anyone who has ever read a book by Mr. Laymon knows that they are in for one heck (Hi, Mom) of a ride!

Summary: A fabulous story to get your teeth into.
Review: Bite was the first Richard Laymon book I ever read, and his writing seduced me immediately. The story keeps you on the edge of your seat and, as with so many of Richard Laymon's books, you just can't put it down. Love, passion, vampires and fear all combine in an excellent life or death situation that will keep you urging the story forward with every page that turns.

There is nothing more that a story could offer, Bite has it all and is a must read for any bookworm. Miss it at your peril.

Summary: An exceptional novel by an exceptional author.
Review: Those that are familiar with Richard Laymon's work know that his style is gritty, fast paced and pulls no punches. This novel is no exception. The writing is tight. The storyline is unlike anything I have ever read. Laymon continues to top himself with each novel he writes. I originally bought this book as a British import and am thrilled to see that it is finally being published in the US. I hope that American audiences give Richard Laymon the attention he so richly deserves. I strongly recommend this book to anyone looking for an interesting and shocking read.

Summary: Finally, an author who's BITE is worse than his bark!
Review: Bite is a book that takes the reader on a terrifying adventure. It's suspence, horror, shock, and spine chilling, hair raising chapter after chapter made this one of my fastest reads in a long long time! You can always count on Richard Laymon to take the usual and then twist it and wrench it into something truely macabre. Something truely worth sinking your teeth into. READ BITE!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Typical Laymon: electric pace, strong characters & storyline
Review: Bite is a fine example of Richard Laymon's unique writing ability. Like many of his later novels, such as Island, Body Rides and Savage, the story starts at a fast pace, and continues without showing any signs of slowing. Although it may sound cliched, Laymon's books truly are unpudownable. Bite is a terrific variation on the vampire scenario, and succeeds with aplomb at being both original and great fun. It is worth reading for the ending alone! In short, although not Laymon's best book, it demonstrates the strength of Laymon's immense and underrated talent, and should be read.
