Rating: Summary: Dark Half Not Dark Enough Review: Stephen King's "The Dark Half" takes the reader on a roller coaster ride of dual identity...and what happens when you choose to "kill" your other half...Thad Beaumont, a professor and author of many books, mainly written under his pseudonym George Stark, is unexpectedly accused of murder...fingerprints, blood type, all left at the scene, but no Thad Beaumont anywhere at the scene of the crime...not only that, but just recently Beaumont comes out to announce that he is George Stark, and Thad has put him to rest...or has he? This book did not rate too well with me...King definitely does not lose his knack of describing the brutal deaths in this novel...but it's one of the books that seems to drag on, as in Needful Things...and if you have read The Dark Half or Needful Things, you will recognize a correlation between the two novels...other novels do exist with this correlation...and if you are a King fan like I am, you will soon know what I am talking about... All I can say is, you won't be too disappointed...I'm never really disappointed with King's novels, except when they drag on...but then again, I'm only one person...so you decide... I will be back with a new review soon...Stephen King's "Pet Sematary"...until then...
Rating: Summary: WOOOOOO....could this be yet another king/bachman reference? Review: this is just one of those books that doesn't stick with you. i'll have to admit it was pretty entertaining, but i just can't remember much of the plot! oh, now i sound reliable! i wouldn't totally bash it, but there are definetely better things out there. [plus, all those weird king/bachman references are a little more than creepy! :) ]
Rating: Summary: A work of genius Review: This book is outstanding! The Beaumont/Stark-plot is purely a work of genius!
Rating: Summary: Scary in a sense that it could happen. Review: "The Dark Half" by Stephen King is very typical to all other Stephen King novels. Gory and catching. He catches your attention in this book from the very beginning. It starts out when Thad Beaumont was a young child and is having migranes. It then jumps forward to his present life. He's a writer and a very successful one at that. When a series of killings begin to happen very close to Thad's home and heart he begins to wonder. This story line unfolds a story that twists and turns in places you would not expect. For a thrilling good time read "The Dark Half" by Stephen King.
Rating: Summary: A great read for writers Review: If you like creative writing like myself, you will like the premise which the story is partially based on and which the movie actually illustrates in Timothy Hutton's speech to his creative writing class, that we all possess a power to do good and a power to do bad, and more emphatically, that we are all composed of a good half and a dark one. That's fine if you want to sublimate your urge for violence and destruction in the form of a horror novel. But what happens when that dark half takes on a human form, capable of only evil acts? A very enjoyable novel and an original plot. However, the George Stark character could be more interesting. He is a basically a murdering monster bent on revenge. It would be neat to know just as much about George as Thad, and it would be really neat to understand George at a very psychological level. Characters make the story, not the plot.
Rating: Summary: Reader from s.a., Pretoria Review: Its damn good. Stephen King has the best climax and plots. It really Rocks and the Reality is to much. It's a very good and unexpected ending with Stark-MR.KING-YOU ARE NOT THE BEST IN HORROR-YOU ARE HORROR
Rating: Summary: VERY GOOD BOOK, BAD MOVIE Review: I love this book, I can't stop reading! be carefull with swallows!
Rating: Summary: More than dark, brilliant. Both it's halves. Review: I've been a 'constant reader' since I was 12, and this is still one of my favorites. Stephen King's characters are very complex, George Stark is greatly developed, he really shows what a dark half is about. This is really a great book, completly unpredictable, and it isn't spoiled with a lousy ending, like so many good books do. This is what I call a complete book. Two thumbs way, way up!
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: I've been a fan for 20 years and this book was one of my favorites, EXCELLENT!
Rating: Summary: A very good novel. Review: Excellent! I must admit, however, that I had to force myself to read through the end, but I'm glad I did. It had one of the most suprising endings Stephen King has written. My advice to you: Read it if you want, not just because I say so. It's not one of his best.
