Rating: Summary: The book was a great account of a true horror story. Review: This story, is chilling proof that evil spirits exciste--and that they love to tourment humans. In 1974, the DeFeo family was murderd by one of there own, and 13 months later, the Lutzs move in. They are victimized by the "Amityville Horror" and after spending a mere 28-days, (a 28-day-nightmare) they flee and never return
Rating: Summary: A real scare of the fact that it's real!!! Review: I first watched the movie starring Margot Kidder, but the book was so much better. It's hard to believe that this incident on the Lutz family really happened! I still wonder if it's true or not, because this is what you'd picture in a horror movie based on Stephen King!!! I couldn't stop reading it chapter after chapter! There's two more books out that I've got. I've read the second one, which is alot weirder, and I haven't read the third one titled "The Final Chapter", but I'm definetely going to find out what the next step is for the Lutz family!!! Read this if you like real life ghost stories, you won't be disappointed!!!
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN, PERIOD. Review: When my uncle and I went to a movie about 2 months ago, we saw an advertisement for "The Haunting" immediately following reading it, he brought up a haunted house he had read about when he was young called Amityville. I had no idea what he was talking about, but was quite interested when learning of some of the unbelieveable events in it. I am a huge paranormal, supernatural whatever you want to call it fan, so decided to look for it. I couldn't find it anywhere. Finally I found a library 300 miles away that had it. I ordered it through my public library. I got it on a wednesday night and finished it that saturday it was that good. Infact i read it twice in that span. I would read it before bed and kept telling myself that I had to put it down because it was already 3:15 in the morning (3:15) but I couldn't for anything. I would fall asleep with it by my side. It was so irrestistable. It was wonderfully written by Jay Anson. It was so intrigueing and suspenceful. All the dilemia was so horrifying especially the bizarre things Missy said that Jodie told her. How I wish this was not fictional. But I still am deeply interested in the paranormal and nothing will get me to believe that ghosts and poltergiests are fake or imagined. Anyone who loves well thought out books and unbeatable events and situations read this you will not regret it!
Rating: Summary: The scariest book I have ever read. Review: I love horror stories and have read many of them but none of them were as good as this book. It sent chills down my spine. At one point I actually jumped and threw the book at the wall. I think the scariest part is definetly when a demonic picture appears on the fire place wall. I actually had nightmares from it. If you are looking for a good, entertaining horror story, this is the book to read.
Rating: Summary: True Story or Big Hoax? Who cares! Review: Whether or not you believe the events in the Amityville case, the book made wonderful reading for the weekend that had me shivering in the night. If you take this as a factual event then it is a fascinating, disturbing read and if not then it can still be approached as ostensible horror material.

Rating: Summary: a terrifying TRUE story Review: THIS BOOK WAS THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ.I AM A TRUE BELIEVER IN THE PARANORMAL,AND I JUST HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE SAY THIS STORY IS A HOAX 'CAUSE IT'S NOT! I HAVE DONE ALOT OF RESEARCH ON THIS STORY AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT IT'S MORE THAN LIKELY VERY TRUE! AND IN MY RESEARCH THE LUTZ FAMILY WEREN'T THE ONLY ONES THAT ENCOUNTERED STRANGE PHENOMENA AT THAT HOUSE,THERE HAVE BEEN MANY OTHER ENCOUNTERS WITH OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN TO 112 OCEAN AVENUE.GO TO AMITYTALK@AOL.COM AND YOU WILL BE CONVIENCED THAT THIS IS A TRUE STORY!TO BAD THIS BOOK IS OUT OF PRINT,BUT IT SHOULD BE EASY TO FIND AT A USED BOOK STORE. READ IT...BE TERRIFIED...READ IT AGAIN...
Rating: Summary: I thought this book was a great work of non-fiction Review: The Amityville Horror is unquestionably the best haunted house story I ever read. It has everything a ghost story should have (and more) strange noises, odd smells, swarming flies, oozy green slime, a demonic pig, a hooded demon (my personal favourite), and a multiple murder. (to bad some years latter it was shown that it my have been a hoax).
Rating: Summary: Great story, but it is A STORY (never happened!) Review: This book terrified me and my friends in junior high in the late '70's. It scared everyone. (The movies were pretty awful though!) I read a few of the other books written about the DeFeo trial, 'The Amityville Horror Conspiracy,' and finally freelanced a 20-year 'whatever happened to...?' for the local daily paper for Halloween. I visited the house, did lots of research, appeared on the radio with all I'd dug up, and -- sorry to disappoint everyone -- but the thing was a hoax. I read the book again (20 years later), and while it's well written, there's an underlying theme about being in debt and having no cash... Time to make up a good story and go public with it! It's a good story, made great headlines, but it really is 'Just a story.' Sorry!
Rating: Summary: This book will continue to haunt you for a long time! Review: "The Amityville Horror," one of the most intriguing and interested books I have read in a long while, has stayed to haunt me since I've read the book over a year ago. I still think of "Jodie" and those haunting "red eyes in the window." What made the book even scarier was fact that this was a supposed "true story." Also, the fact that so many elements of the story remain unexplained, even AFTER you read the epilouge. (What does the green goo have to do with ANYTHING?) I highly recommend visiting the house (112 Ocean Avenue) before they tear it down. (I live ten minutes away, so its easy for me.) But what I don't recommend is reading this book at night!
