Rating: Summary: double check your closets, shadows in the rooms, get scared Review: Have you seen the Movie? I read this book, before the movie came out. When this book first came out, simply starting to talk to someone reading it, would make them jump, and often the girls would scream as they dropped the book. Believe me, it's that good of a scarry supernatural book. The book is like a magnet to your hands, you can't seem to put it down, until it's finished. Afterwards, you may double check under your bed, closets, or the shadow in the medicine cabinet. If you liked the movie, this book is several times better than the movie. If you thought the movie was fair, this book is great.
Rating: Summary: Not as scarry as before Review: When I read this book as a child, frankly it scared the hell out of me. Now that I am older it is still scary, but not as before. It is a good book to read if you are looking for some really good fiction about hauntings. Might want to drag it out aorund Halloween to set the mood....Happy hauntings.
Rating: Summary: Not as scary as I remembered Review: I remember this book as being positively horrorific. I wouldn't even sleep in the same room with it. Now that I am an older person, I found this book a lot less scary. The only part that really made me jump was the end. It is an interesting book, especially in the annals of "true" stories of hauntings, but it just wasn't the leap out of your skin scary story that I remembered. The writing has a certain pedestrian quality to it, serviceable, but not exciting. It is really hard to find a good haunted house book/novel. This is ok.
Rating: Summary: a good book Review: 666 is anson's masterpiece. this is only a good book. events in plentiful. plot interesting. simple style. more a book for a younger audience i believe. a family moves in a house where something evil lurks. stuff happens. well enough, but not masterly in any way by description, psychology etc. the problem is perhaps the "true story"-angle. i believe, i know, that anson could have made more out of it (as 666 proves). the story simply fails at times too (e.g.: in the beginning we are led to believe that the mother will be seriously disturbed and that it will have great impact, not true). a good read. classic? why?
Rating: Summary: Who gives a flying frito weather or not its a true story. Review: I don't know why people go on and on about weather or not the Lutz's made it all up. The book is scary either way. I read this book as a teenager while alone in the house one night. We lived in a rather old creaky anti-bellum house. My parents worked night shift so I called my Mother. She arranged for my cousin to come by when she got off work at pizza hut at 2am. I convinced her to spend the night with me. Thousands and thousands of books later I still have not found one to make me call someone over to my house in the middle of the night. Even nights later I awoke and caught the red glare from the clock radio and screamed. I thought they were Jody's eyes looming at me from across the dark room. I don't really care if these people made it up or not. It's great horror. I figure where there's smoke there's fire. They were probably creeped out about living in a house where an entire family was murdered to begin with, had a few unusual things happen, and decided to run with it and make a few bucks. I've always wondered if they knew about the murders before they boght the house.
Rating: Summary: not true but entertaining Review: As a kid when i read this book it came out in 1976. I didnt believe in anything supernatural , but this book came out and said it was true. so being 16 and skeptical i read it and got real scared. then a week later i read in the paper how the lutz family took the tragedy of the defeo family murders for profit, i was fooled but now i know better. i hate to say this cos i dont believe in ghosts or anything as a psycic, but the ammityville conspircy is a interesting read on the phoniness of the lutzs. anyone who says they could talk to the dead is lying. they take advantage of lonely people. george lutz went on abc to still say the story was true and the reporter didnt even bring up the conspircy book. well all b.s aside it is fun and fast to read but it isnt true.
Rating: Summary: The Best! Review: I read this book when I was 10 years old. Twelve years later, I still think it is one of the scariest books out there. If you are one of those people who love that prickly on the back of your neck feeling -then READ this book!!
Rating: Summary: The Amityville Horror by Jay Anson Review: On December 18, 1975, a young family of five moved into their new home, complete with finished basement, swimming pool, and boathouse. Twenty-eight days later, they fled in terror, leaving most of their belongings behind. The fantastic story of their experiences was widely publicized on network television, newspapers, and national magazines. But the Lutz family never disclosed the full details to the media. Now, their own carefully-reconstructed memories -- and independent interviews with local clergy and police -- reveal their entire harrowing story. George and Kathleen Lutz were aware that the house had been the scene of a mass murder -- Ronnie DeFeo, 23, was convicted of shooting his parents, brothers, and sisters. But it seemed an ideal home for them and their three children, and the price was right. On the day they moved in, a priest invited to bless the house was told by an unseen voice to "Get out!" At his rectory, he began to suffer a series of inexplicable afflictions. Meanwhile, alone in their new home, the Lutz family were embarking on the most terrifying experience of their lives. It began when their five-year-old daughter boasted of her new playmate, someone -- or something -- named "Jodie." THE AMITYVILLE HORROR is an unforgettable book with all the shocks and gripping suspense of THE EXORCIST, THE OMEN, or ROSEMARY'S BABY -- but with one vital difference! As the author reports, "To the extent that I can verify them, all the events in this book are true."
Rating: Summary: I BELIEVE IT IS TRUE,BUT IF YOU DON'T A SCARY BOOK ANYHOW Review: WELL LETS JUST SAY I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF THE MOVIE FOR A VERY LONG TIME, BUT WHEN I READ THIS BOOK IT TORE THE MOVIE TO SHREDS! THE BOOKS IS SO MUCH BETTER! IT TELLS THE STORY ON HOW IT HAD HAPPENED. WHERE AS THE MOVIE NOT ONLY LEFT ALOT OUT THEY OVER DRAMATIZED IT. BELIEVER OR NOT THE BOOK MAKES SENSE IF YOU READ IT THROUGH AND PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS AND DON'T THINK ABOUT THE MOVIE. LETS JUST SAY AFTER THE BOOK I HAD TO REGAIN MY THOUGHTS CAUSE OF MY INTEREST INTO THE BOOK. IT IS WORTH THE SCARE. BESIDES WHY SHOULD WE JUDGE SOMEONE ABOUT WHAT WE DON'T UNDERSTAND? THE FOLLOW UP BOOKS EXPLAIN MORE OF THE LUTZES HORRORS AND NOT JUST BY THE GHOSTS EITHER!(REFERING TO AMITYVILLE HORROR BOOKS BY JOHN G. JONES)
Rating: Summary: AMITYVILLE HORROR BABY Review: I love this book! Jay Anson writes about a haunted house on Long Island where the inhabitants are driven mad by the spirits that dwell within. Ronnie DeFeo brutally murders his family in the house a year before the Lutz's move in. The Lutz's don't even last a month in their new home even with the help of a local priest before they are driven out by the evil spirits living there. I personally love this book, I've read it 3 times now and get a more vivid picture of Josie (read the book and you'll know) every time. The kids in the family add a nice twist to the story as the youngest daughter can actually see one of the ghosts and communicate with it. I think the ending could be a little better, but I don't mind a disappointing ending when I was so thrilled with the rest of the book. People said this book was too unbelievable, but how can anything with the supernatural be completely believable? You need to imagine a little bit! Once you get into this book you won't want to stop reading it because it moves so fast. You'll be wondering what will happen next and what will it finally take to get the Lutz's to move out of that haunted mansion. I love to read mysteries and horror novels and this was by far one of the best ones I've ever read. This book is definitely one of my favorites of all time, even if it wasn't all that believable. ...I give it 5 out of 5 stars. If you want a good scare and a quick read, I completely recommend this book
