Summary: Spellbinding
Review: I was a little apprehensive about reading this book because I mistakenly believed it was all about voodoo. To my surprise, the book had biblical references woven throughout the story right down to the source of the "blood". Ms. Due's writing is mellifluous and spellbinding. She gives such depth to her characters you can almost visualize them as they journey through the trials and challenges they face in their attempts to lead a "normal" life. Due's development of the main character, five-year-old Fana (BeBe) was amazing. Of the 18 or so books I have read this year, this book is on my Top Ten list.

Summary: Just Too long...
Review: T.Due is an excellent writer but this book was so long that the only way I made it to the end was to skip the Dawit parts. I loved the story line with Lucas and his son Jared but it was excruciating reading to see them triumph in the end. I wish there had been more time spent on the love story between Alex and Lucas. These characters are well developed and likeable and I would have loved to see more of them and less Dawit and those thing-people. All in all, it was a great diversion.

Summary: Bigger is not always better!
Review: The continuation of a storyline begun in "My Soul to Keep" is intriguing but takes too long in story development, seeming somewhat derivative of other works (William Peter Blatty's "The Exorcist" comes to mind). Like an overproduced album, Miss Due's tale of immortality doesn't "live" up to expectations shown in the first installment. That is not to say that it's not a good read; it's just not as fulfilling.

Summary: The best Sci-Fi I've read
Review: I've never been quite so impressed with a book. This was simply the best read I had all last year. The story kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading it. I could literally feel the story taking place as if I were there. I would recommend that everybody read this book and add it to your permanent collection.

I wish that Tananarive Due continue to write. I can't wait to read any works from her.

Review: I was blown away by this book....wow....I couldn't put it down!

Summary: Wondrously gifted author / totally captivating subject
Review: I have completed this book and am writing this review at 5am! This is only one of several all-nighters that I've pulled, avidly reading on and on and on. I could not put it down for very long and chose to read it instead of watching some of my favorite shows on tv and Yankees baseball, which, believe me is saying something! There is so much this book has to offer that it is amazing that Ms. Due could think up half of it. I read "My Soul To Keep" and thought that was one of the best books I'd ever read. However, this sequel tops its predecessor.
Alot of books either start out slowly, drop the ball in the middle, or end inconclusively, leaving the reader to feel it was time wasted. But, Ms. Due's writing grabs you and keeps you spellbound from start to finish. As I write this review with the story fresh in my mind, I really cannot think of anything about it that I would change. I only hope that this wonderfully talented writer continues to produce such excellent work. There are too many writers today who are mediocre and their choice of topics is frivolous. But, Tananarive is definitely not among them. She is a superior writer of novels today. I would love to join her fan club. Keep on keepin' on, Sister!!!

Summary: Great book !
Review: I loved this book! I read both My Soul to Keep and the Living Blood. The living blood is particularly great. I can't decide which is better, My Soul To Keep or The Living Blood. The Living Blood is an epic novel. I am a sci-fi/horror fan and have always been disappointed because as an African-American, I had never read a horror novel with black characters. I love the whole Africa and African American spin on both the books. It is particularly refreshing to read about someone who you can relate to! I commend Due for writing from an African-American perspective, but still making the book readable to those of other ethnic backgrounds. I was so enthralled in the book that I could not put it down! The only downside is that it is a bit long and My favorite character Dawit (or David) is not in the novel as much as he was in the first. But I loved it anyway! I just wish David and Jessica could have kissed and made up sooner! But I highly recommend reading both novels!! Watch out Anne Rice, Due is a better storyteller and not as long winded!!

Summary: Vampires and Christians..Oh My!
Review: Tananarive Due returns to the story of David and Jessica Jacobs-Wolde in The Living Blood, the sequel to 1998's My Soul To Keep. Once again Due wrestles with questions of immortality, spirituality, and ethical dilemmas, and offers no neatly packaged solutions to the questions she raises. When the couple, both immortals, give birth to a daughter who possesses apocalyptic powers, they are thrown together to try to save not only their daughter, but the world that they will inhabit for all eternity.

The Living Blood is a slow starter. I fully admit that my own prejudices came into play because I find it difficult to become engrossed in a story that has children at its center. As the story develops it became evident that the pacing had less to do with a plodding, uninteresting storyline than a masterful control of a maelstrom of events.

Due's novel is an insightftul commentary on pharmaceutical excesses, perhaps even better than Franzen's The Corrections. I was disappointed that the author didn't fully develop the theological implications of The Living Blood (of Christ), nor did Due adequately challenge the reasons behind the exclusion of women from the immortals' colony. Despite these small shortcomings, the narrative captures your imagination so fully that you're willing to set the omissions aside.

Summary: No Bloodsuckers Here!
Review: Once I got started, I could not put this book down! I started on a Friday evening and finished it at 3am Monday morning. This book is excellent and a total and completely different spin on "vampires." I love Anne Rice but she has nothing on Tananarive Due! The Living Blood is truly an original. Well written, wonderfully paced. Just a fabulous book! And there better be a sequel!!!!

Thank you Tananarive Due! We're definitely "Due" for more from you!!!

Summary: Wonderful
Review: I picked this book up on a whim, I had previously read Blood Brothers" by her husband Steven Barnes. I have to say that "The Living Blood" more than met my expectations. It was wonderfully written and kept me throughly interested throughout. I can't wait to read Ms. Due's earlier novels!
