Summary: King, Koontz, Barker... Due!
Review: The Living Blood is an excellent sequel to My Soul to Keep, but also stands up quite well as a solo venture for those who have read none of Ms. Due's prior work. She does a superb job of interweaving the significant details from the first book into Living Blood's story line - so much so that you may want to read My Soul to Keep first to keep from spoiling that experience.

The Living Blood is a fast-paced story with a solid, and well developed plot line. Ms. Due presents characters that you will really care about, and a few whom you will really hate. Unfortunately, she also presents a few you'd like to skip over. More suspenseful than scary, it manages quite a few nail-biting, page-a-minute sections. Ms. Due combines style elements similar to Stephen King's multiple sub-plot development, with Dean Koontz's pacing and character development. Indeed, fans of either novelist will find Living Blood an enjoyable read. However, although she avoids the formulaic feel of some of these horror novelists latter work, she does fall into their trap of too many characters and plot lines.

In total, I felt the novel would have been 5 stars with the omission of a few characters, added only to provide King-like dual climaxes. The ending would have worked better with a more focused treatise of Jessica's fight to save her daughter's soul.

In total, however, this was one of the best books of its genre I've read in years. For someone long since tired of Stephen King's many characters' all thinking at me in italics, or Dean Koontz's evil-in-pursuit-a-month club, The Living Blood is a welcome change. I will certainly be in line for her next work.

Summary: The best yet ...
Review: Tananarive Due is a wonderfully exciting author. I don't think I could write a review that would do her justice or adequately display my joy in reading this book. I have recommended her books and bought them for friends and family. The characters jump off the page. The descriptions of the settings are so vivid. Ms. Due takes the reader through a series of twist and turns without being confusing or neglectful of character development, writing this story so well, that you ask yourself if what she's writing about is real. I not only enjoyed this exploration of the unknown, I am intrigued by it. The depth and intelligence with which it is written makes it believable! You stop reading only to wonder whether or not these events could have actually taken place. I could not put the book down. Although 500 plus pages, the ease in which Due writes makes for a voraciously fast-paced read. The writing style keeps you turning the pages with more and more interest.

The Living Blood is some of the very best storytelling I've ever experienced. It is truly an exceptional book and definitely a must have on every book shelf. I recommend it to all readers.

Summary: The Living Blood
Review: I could not wait to get my hands on a copy of the sequel to My Soul to Keep...The Living Blood. When I finally got it, I waited a couple of hours to read it (took me about a day and a half). Anyway, I really enjoyed reading the Living Blood, though I wish the author had spent more time on Jessica and Dawit/David than the other characters. I'm not sure I liked the way the book ended, but I hope there will be another sequel...with Fana as a young woman. I'd really like to see how she turns out. Why does this book deserve five stars? At times it was heartwrenching and I really, really felt for the characters, especially Dr. Shepard. The story was well-told and quick-paced, though at times I wanted to skip over parts that had nothing to do with Jessica, David, or Fana. The book also scared me, and I like nothing more than a good scare. Overall, it was a very, very good read...my high expectations were met for the sequel. Ms. Due , I look forward to reading more

Summary: One of my favorites...
Review: I discovered T. Due and My Soul To Keep/The Living Blood at the Library. I have to say that she is one of my favorite authors. I enjoyed The Living Blood, but not as much as My Soul To Keep. I loved that the story continued with David and Jessica. It was interesting to find out more about Lalibela and the Immortal Brothers.

I did feel like maybe the editors chopped the story some. It felt a little disjointed. I was disappointed that it too so long for David and Jessica to reconcile their feelings with one another.

Ms. Due wove a masterful creation with this book and it's prequel. As a reader I could identify with Jessica, and David reminded me of my husband it certain ways. The characters had just the right balance to make you feel like you knew them. I told several of my friends about these books and I would recommend them again, without hesitation.

If there is a part three on the way... I can hardly wait.

Summary: Truly entertaining
Review: This is a great book. Take it from a bibliophile who buys but doesn't read half the books he owns. I read this one in three days. It was truly entertaining and I'm still waiting to see how the movie works out(My Soul To Keep). This is a very talented writer.

Summary: Due knocks it out of the park with this must read sequel.
Review: I liked "My Soul To Keep", but I LOVED "The Living Blood"!!

Due masterfully weaves together a suspenseful, exciting story pulling together a wealth of charaters, events and themes so brilliantly, I could hardly bring myself to close the book. A definite page turner!

And the imagery - my God, the imagery!! Especially in respects to the life colony - rich, vivid and all at once ominous and beautiful!

I can't wait for the next installment of the lives of these immortals. If there's any justice in the world, Due will write a series of sequels equally, if not more impressive.

Summary: Blood Money!
Review: I dove into "The Living Blood" on a whim, expecting to find yet another take on the vampire genre...but ready for someone other than Anne Rice to read. I'm ecstatic that I came across Tananarive Due's book!

Not quite a true vampire story, yet having all the thrilling elements, "The Living Blood" barrels along nicely, combining awesome and well-developed characters, and a brilliant plot. Due's writing manage's to be poetic, emotionally deep, and intriguing all at once.
