Summary: A dream within a dream...
Review: It's not easy to write a review for a book like Weaveworld. It talks about dreams, and dreams are the the only thing you are left when you finish reading it. if only there was a place in the world that could reach Fuga, a place that would look like paradise, a place like the one C.B. describes. We have all dreamed a place like that and Barker managed to get in our thoughts. This reason is enough to say that this book is the best. Our souls will never be the same again...

Summary: Splendid. The fantasy horror novel to beat all.
Review: This is the book that Stephen King has been trying to write since the Stand (that over-heavy over-long waste of paper). All of the elements come together--Fear, Wonder, Delight, Joy, Terror, all mixed into a glorious and very intelligent tale. Read it. Read it now. You will be glad you did.

Summary: Clive's best
Review: This was the book that turned me on to Clive Barker over a decade ago, and his books have been an obsession ever since! I've been to three book signings to meet him and have just about every book autographed. Its my most prized collection. And Weaveworld is my favorite!

Summary: BRILLIANT--the best Clive Barker Ever!
Review: Yes! Even in 1999, more than a decade after it was published, I still think this is the best Barker book I have ever read. It was also the first, and it hooked me onto his writing. Although most of his books have exrtrordinary imagination, they all leave you feeling a bit empty at the end, except maybe Imajica, which says we'll all go to heaven when we die (hey, if Gentle can go, why can't we?)---No More! Weaveworld is probably my favorite book of all time, with Lord of the Rings and Trainspotting...READ THIS BOOK!!!!!

Summary: The book that de-throned King as my favorite horror author
Review: This is by far the best Barker novel I have ever read. By presenting the characters of our fantasies and our imaginations as real beings with weaknesses, beings who love and fear and hate, Barker makes them easier to identify with. I highly recommend this book to fans of Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics or just anyone who enjoys dark fantasy. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Believable characters and a driven plot help the book along.
Review: In the first few chapters, I was pretty indifferent. Then, suddenly, I was there. I felt like I was a part of the plot. The "world" created was vivid and imaginative. I think Clive Barker did a very good job with the allusion to fictional work in this book as well. I would compare this to two books that don't quite touch Weaveworld in my opinion, The Langoliers by Stephen King and Imajica by Clive Barker.

Summary: A good introduction to Barker's work
Review: I enjoy Stephen King, but I had been hestitant to try Clive Barker, as I prefer fantasty/thriller type books to true horror--based on ads for the Hellraiser movies, I thought Barker fell into the latter category. However, I recently came across Weaveworld, which was described as an epic fantasy and which had received many raving reviews, so I thought this would be a good book for me to try Barker for the first time.

I wasn't disappointed: Barker is a good storyteller, and he creates an interesting, engaging world in Weaveworld. However, I found his prose to be awkward at times and his characters to be inconsistent--it was difficult for me to keep a stable view of each person in my mind.

In addition, I still feel that Stephen King is the *master* storyteller (re-reading The Dead Zone right after Weaveworld confirmed this), and that compared to him, Barker is no more than entertaining. Furthermore, I don't believe that Weaveworld is the best fantasty world story that I've ever read--that distinction continues to be held by Stephen R. Donaldson's Mirror of Her Dreams and A Man Rides Through (Mordant's Need, Books 1 & 2). This was unquestionably the greatest fantasy story I've ever come across; Weaveworld pales in comparison.

Despite these factors, Weaveworld is still an enjoyable read, and it has at least made me willing to read more of Barker's work--maybe even Hellraiser! ;-)

Summary: My new favourite author - thanks to Weaveworld
Review: When I broke my shoulder this summer there was little I could do but read. Luckily a friend had given me a copy of Weaveworld and I finally had an opportunity to read - no...devour - it.

Mr. Barker reminded me of the importance of magic in our everyday lives, something I used to know but somehow forgot while spinning endlessly on the wheel of working, sleeping, and taking care of the physical that we don't seem to get away from until something catastrophic (2 months off work with an injury) stops us. 3 more of his novels later and I'm sure he isn't a one hit wonder. Lucky me! There are so many of his to choose from that I'll be okay until Tom Robbins finally publishes another one!!

So many books, so little time.
