Rating: Summary: This Was The First Clive Barker Book I Ever Read And...... Review: .....I do believe I have to say that I enjoyed it. It kept me glued page after page. It was truly in depth. All his OTHER stories I have been exposed to (e.g. "Vampires" and the "Hellraiser" series, et al) I had only seen the movies.
Rating: Summary: You walk into Barker's world and like it Review: I was looking for a book to read and I found it in the library and I loved it.It is so amazingly good and I read it about 5 times before returning it and went to go go buy it afterward. The characters are likable (even some of the villains) and the whole storyline keeps you wondering what will happen next.It makes you wish that the Weaveworld did excist because Barker makes the world seem so beautiful and the ending is unexpecteed and great. It's my favorite and I know everyone who reads it will fall in love with at least one character.
Rating: Summary: absolutely the best reading experience Review: This was really an experience and not only; it was the most imaginative journey I 've taken so far. Clive hits exactly the right spot in the back of your head, as if though he knows we're all dreaming of the same dreams, thinking the same thoughts... The only thing I can really remember is turning the first page open and then, the book opened itself like a true live story unfolding in front of one's eyes. It is the utter journey everyone would want to take, to places where all dreams come true. Evil, good, dreams of men, demons, gods and beasts, they all come to life and every situation is a possibility. In there, I've really felt every emotion possible and imaginable. I've purchased the book five times so far, but I've read it only once. The experience was so powerfull and dramatic as it was long and exhausting. I don't need to read it again because it's now like a memory to me; vivid and colourfull, all the faces and places encountered inside remain intagged by time. Simply the best book I've ever read.
Rating: Summary: the greatest fantasy-horror novel of all time!!!!!! Review: when first picking up this book i thought to myself that it sounded sorta dull. i mean its about a carpet for pete's sake. but i was horribly wrong. this book has everything folks. great story, fabulous heros, wicked baddies, and a whole new world, the fugue. i recommend this book for anyone with an appetite for adventure and excitement.
Rating: Summary: Dazzling, mind-altering storytelling Review: I read this book on a recommendation, and not without some doubts - fantasy fiction is not my thing at all. But my God, what a book. From the first page, the first phrase, Clive Barker has the reader in the palm of his hand. Mulit-layered, intelligent, terrifying, thought-provoking, uplifting and dazzling - this is an intense read. The story, the images and the themes will stay with you for a very, very long time.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT STORY Review: A great book with an interesting plot. Great characters and a few little things about the book that make it great in many different ways.
Rating: Summary: MY GOD!!! HOW FAR CAN IMAGINATION GO?? Review: I started reading that book with the thought that it couldn't be better than the "Damnation Game". I was so wrong!! It was the first time that i woke up only to read a book! The story is something beyond reality but it has so strong meanings for the real life. I wish and dream to be in a world like this anchient wise tribe had. How can Clive Barker could think those things without living inside of them?? I sometimes, two months after i read it keep thinking of it...The best book i've ever read and the standard of comparison for any other book i will read in the future!!
Rating: Summary: High on my "favourite books" shelf Review: I was looking around a market stall when I saw a large battered paperback with an interesting cover. I bought it, started reading it, and hardly put it down for the next few days. Susannah and Calhoun's world became my world. I wandered around in a daze. I started seeing things and people in a different light, and my own writing started deviating from cliche to something original. I had discovered Clive Barker's fantastic, nightmarish, enthralling, terrifying imagination.
Rating: Summary: THE MASTER PROOVES HIMSELF AGIAN. Review: well, what can i say. this book is one of the greatest fantasies i've ever read. this story really opens up a new world in which i found myslef generating mental images of the places barker takes the reader. with ease, it's like he uses his mind to touch that of the reader and conveys what he wants to, with the most percision. i think this is another example of how clive barker takes the world we live in and says "what if". what if there were a palce that we can't see, and that place had it's own inhabbitants. and what if we owed it to those people to make sure they were protected from the evil that lusted for it's beauty to destroy. well in short, get the book, read it, and read it again. i did. and i'm not complaining. :)
Rating: Summary: underestimateable to what this brings to your very senses Review: I enjoy reading fantasy books, and I also had never read a book as long as this. I just saw how many chapters it had, so I figured I could put it down here and there, and read it whenever. After several chapters I was hooked like everyone else. I can read fast, but I only like to read for a certain amount of time each day, so I read this in about two years...day by day.I can say that this book not only had one conflict with a bad guy, but continuing conflicts throughout the entire book. Calhoun is just a normal guy who gets involved into the story. He is prove as to what a normal person can actually go through throughout a book, and the wantingness he has to love suzanna is incredible, even in the very end. If there is one book you read in your life time, read this. It will mesmerize you and spellbound you. It delighted me 'til my hearts content. This book shows the true meaning of the human spirit and that some people will never give up, be them good people or bad. By the way, Calhoun always loved suzanna...that was wonderful...read!!
