Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down Review: Read this book 10 years ago. AWESOME! It pulls you right in. Not a book to casually read. You WANT to finish the chapters
Rating: Summary: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe - Barker style. Review: ....or to put it another way "there's a world in that carpet, no-one believes me and now the wicked witch is chasing me for it". Oh, I know, its unfair to make comparisons with C.S.Lewis but all the poor souls dishing out five stars for this book must have missed out before they hit teenagehood. Its a good read, but to be honest I didnt read any words that would move me such that I would care what happened to the carpet or its inhabitants. There's horror and gore in this book but at times it seems over the top and misplaced. And why does Clive Barker constantly make references to male genitalia? Honestly, after 700 pages I was dreading to read the effect of cold weather on our hero, it really does get that ridiculous. Anyway, it was my first read of a Clive Barker book and Im looking forward to the next one, despite my own personal gripes - I thought his idea for the book was great and well worth the time it took to read it. I wanted to give five stars, I really did, but there's a real lack of depth to Suzanna here and no real insight into to the kind of people she bravely tries to save.

Rating: Summary: The Never Ending Story Review: I almost didn't read it because of the reference to "Horror" on the cover, but to me, it didn't fit that category. It was more imaginative than that- better than I thought it could be. In fact, I don't know where or when I bought the book, but I was getting books off to the used book sellers when I needed a novel, and there it was. I could put it down, but I picked it up regularly over the 5 days or so it took to read.
Rating: Summary: A brilliant epic creating a dimension we all wish was real. Review: Once again Clive Barker has succeeded in creating a place so real in the mind that on finishing the book one is left feeling a sorrow like leaving a geographical place we have loved and don't want to leave. A masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: In a word... WOW! Review: So Tolkien's masterpiece is the ultimate fiction, yes, but this here runs a very close second - a different look on fantasy, showing it doesn't have to be all that innocent... simply amazing.
Rating: Summary: A Remarkable And Engaging Novel Review: I am not a big fan of Barker's, but Weaveworld and its cast of characters has remained with me despite years and hundreds of other books. Weaveworld is for someone who enjoys witnessing the creation of an alternate world and the myths, values, and beliefs associated with it.
Rating: Summary: A True Masterpiece Review: Clive Barker makes you feel that this novel is as full of magic as the story it tells. I fully expected the carpet to come flying out of the pages. It is dark and foul and light and sweet all at once. I read this novel in one marathon sitting. It is great.
Rating: Summary: Pure Wonderment and Fantastic Fantasy. Review: The creatures and the landscapes of this novel are stunning and mystical. And the mystery of a creature made of fire who has gone mad from eons of lonliness and madness is pure delight. Barker has the imagination of a god who can create entire worlds in his mind. Beautiful and horrifying.
Rating: Summary: wasn't anything to get into or anyone to get behind Review: Take it from the book itself.. "Didn't I warn you how it would be, sister? Didn't I tell you? All grief, I said. All loss." What a depressing book. It's an endless chase/grapple/scrabble for possession of a carpet(where the fugue/magic world hides). The orig. idea is imaginative BUT Mr. Barker never takes off with it. He only gives us a fleeting glimpse of the weaveworld. Not enough to get any feel for it. The characters were either too evil or too flaky to care about/feel for. i.e.: The good guys get slam dunked repeatedly. I mean how many times does Cal get beat/kicked to a bloody pulp by Shadwell etc.? How many stupid narrow escapes... only to loose in the end? Failure after failure. Suzanna, the girl who has a power, rarely uses it! What a waste. And word never seems to get out and around about Shadwells magic jacket lining either. There just wasn't anything to get into or anyone to get behind. The only reason I continued to the end was because it happens to be Sunday and the library is closed.
