Summary: weave the best
Review: my intro to clive the only one i have read seven times each time i pick up on something new it is the!!! book that keeps me coming back to his books movies interviews he is the best.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Epic
Review: An impressive novel in which the villains have just as many vulnerabilities as the heroes. Clive Barker demonstrates here that he possesses one of those big imaginations that can build worlds in which exist characters and events that can keep me involved for over 700 pages. His prose is also quite extraordinary--the book is filled which interesting turns of phrase and unexpected perspectives.

What impressed me the most is that, although there is plenty of magic in this story, the villains are not undone by anything so simple as the destruction or utilization of some particularly powerful magical artifact. Even the most powerful, godlike beings are shown to have frailties and weaknesses, and it is these that ultimately lead to their downfall. Good work, Mr. Barker.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: The first Clive Barker book I read was The HellBound Heart. I was not impressed. Barker had spent all of his time describe the atrocities taking place and no time on the story.

That is not a problem here! In this book, the story is all. There is Barker's trademark visceral action, but the charecters are fleshed out. They each (good guys as well as bad guys) have thier own motives and change/grow through out the story. Excellent!

The story itself is great. It starts with an insurence salesman and a pottery maker in the middle of thier normal lives who are then drawn to "Wonderland"-- or perhaps draw "Wonderland" to them? Too much detail would ruin the story. Suffice to say, with Clive Barker writing the story, "Wonderland" isn't as harmless as 'Alice' found it.

Summary: A magnum opus from the decade's most visionary author!
Review: Weaveworld is Clive Barker's finest effort (at least from all the ones I've read, probably on part with The Hellbound Heart, if not better than it.) It is so compulsively readable, it hypnotizes you with it's beautiful passages. Few writers can be as effective as Barker in opening a window to their mind and soul so you can peek inside, and revel in the devouring darkness of an imagination that runs amok shamelessly. This is a much darker and twisted version of Lewis Carrol, and one must read it with an open mind to fully appreciate the enormity of the canvas that is spread before your very eyes. Barker is a contemporary genius, a true wizard, a wordsmith of unparalleled talent. One of the most enthralling, engrossing books I've ever read. If you haven't read this yet, do yourself a favor and go get it.

Summary: ....wow
Review: I've read nearly every one of Clive's books, but this one is just the best. The characters seem real, and are fun to read. The heros are loveable, and in a perverse way, so are the villains. And speaking of villains, this book has the best one ever: Shadwell. He's the most dynamic, interesting, and evil character I've ever come across. He manipulates, kills, and tortures people but in the end he still sees himself as a good person. The story is so full of plot twists that you're never bored. Anyone who hasn't read this book simply has to buy it. Right now. Or, you can at least check it out at the library... free, gratis, and without charge. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Summary: Glam Trash
Review: European imports Clive Barker & Neil Gaiman have spoken of their dislike of Tolkien in print, Barker whose initial fame has worn thin over the years mistakes political correctness for depth (like his fellow "special interest" fantasist Ursula Le Guin) that his literary themes will soon parallel theme parks in Disney Land just confirms the superficial nature of much of his writing. Gaiman billed as one of the top post-modern writers reveals the cut & paste method of character development and his works are ideally suited for video game developers and Quentin Tarrantino. Both are limited to the London rave scene and U.S. equivalents in their appeal. And both lack the numinous "extra literary" qualities of Tolkien & C.S. Lewis and their successors like Stephen R. Donaldson or even Stephen King.

Summary: "Nothing ever begins."
Review: Incredible world. The book has a depth of life and understanding that I have not encountered before. The complex writting and intensity of the character was simply amazing. I could not put this book down. It was so moving and the plot was so woven. Beautifully written.

Summary: Fanciful delirium...
Review: I bought this book half-a-year ago and still did not finish it (I think I'll never will, neither do I have any wish): the beginning was so-so, and afterwards the author was completely lost in the creatures he himself created, but for what purpose? It takes more to write a good book than creating a delirious mess of queer monsters and worlds... I think it is my second and last book by Barker.
