Rating: Summary: Lightening Strikes and Fires Up A Winner Review: Disappointed by the earlier ghostwriters' mininovelettes, Rain and Lightening Strikes have once again lightening bolted their way back into my heart. This book, LIGHTENING STRIKES, is a more indepth stormy look into our characters' life. The book jumpstarts with a thunderous beginning which grabs the reader and tummels you into the story. Believe me, you will light your emergency candles to stay up with this one through the storm until the very end which will leave you flailing waiting for your SOS from Amazon.com that you are moving on into the "Eye Of The Storm". I give this book 5 thunderclaps of praise...well worth a trip to www.AMAZON.com for your own personal copy to read and reread again!
Rating: Summary: A SOLID ENTRY IN THE HUDSON SERIES Review: The last time we saw Rain Arnold, she was told by the only mother she has ever known, that she is actually the daughter of a rich family, and she was going to live with them. After dealing with tragedy, and scandal, Rain has managed to graduated High School, with the dreams of making a career as a singer. Grandmother Hudson, who has taken a liking to Rain, has decided to send Rain to an excellent school in London. To attend the school, Rain must live as an au-pair with grandmother Hudson's sister, Lenora. Of course great-aunt Lenora does not know of Rain's true identity, further complicating Rain's need to fit-in. As Rain settles in her new, temporary home, she must deal with the extremely creepy, estate manager, Boggs, and the story of Lenora's dead baby, who supposedly haunts the estate. Rain desperately tries to make her stay at the estate go by quickly and comfortably, despite the noises throughout the night, and the eerie presence she feels around her. Rain finds comfort in the form of Randall, the young man she is falling in love with. Randall is everything she is looking for...but will he stick around after finding out the truth of her twisted past, and the lies that surround her? As with all V.C Andrews novels, nothing goes easy for the main characters, all love relationships become tainted, there are always secrets hidden in the past, the settings and characters are creepy, and the reader never knows who to trust. Following this formula, Andrews has had bestseller after bestseller. This is one author who never disappoints, the reader gets what they deserve...an interesting read in the grand Andrews tradition. Although this type of fiction may not be for everyone, anyone looking for dark, strange, twisted, gothic family drama will love it. Nick Gonnella
Rating: Summary: Good but not as good as the first one Review: I felt the book was okay, but was slow in some areas and predictable in other areas. There should have been more said about the dead child in the English household. However, the novel laid the foundation for the battle to come in the third novel, which I am highly anticipating. Good book, but not great.
Rating: Summary: Calm Before the Storm Review: I am a long time fan of the V.C. Andrews' styling, having read every novel published under the author's name. I consider myself somewhat of a V.C. Andrews expert. My expertise was caught unawares by the authors blend of the traditional Andrews' format mixed with a new urban flavor. Rain, having finally developed a positive relationship with her real grandmother, is given the chance to attend a prestigous performance art school in England. She was sent under the guise of an aupair to Grandmother Hudson's sister and brother in law's home, all the while concealing her true relationship to the family. As with any good V.C. Andrews'plot there are family secrets to be uncovered, new loves to be had a roller coaster ride of twists and turns. Rain learns of the hidden truths of her Great Aunt and Great Uncle, gives in to the seductive advances of a trusted person and finds herself at odds with everything she's ever held dear. I feel this book sits along side the best in all the series. Lightning Strikes offers everything, I as a fan, want and demand from this writer. I felt it was unique as well as providing the standard Andrews' flair that drew me in so many years ago. This is another fine offering which I recommend whole-heartedly.
Rating: Summary: The long awaited sequel Review: When I saw this book, I grabbed it, excited to hear about the trials and adventures of Rain Arnold. But as I grew deeper into the story, I am sorry to say that I wasn't really impressed with the plot. When she gets to London, where the story is set, she is right away treated like dirt by her family. I don't think I was very surprised by the way she seems lost and friendless in a foreign country. All she had was theater, and even the characters think that Rain was too good to be true. In all the struggles she had in the world, she happened to be the star of every class that she attended, and she aqquires another shadow, a shadow that Rain thinks she could do without: the cutest boy in school, who adores her and cannot live without her. The story was a quick read: once you pick it up, you will not want to put it back down until the very last page. I urge those who do love to read VC Andrews to get this book, for I do agree that it will satisfy your curiousity about the main character's fate.
Rating: Summary: V.C. Andrews is Back! Review: Or at least her dream is. I have read all of the other books and was a bit disapointed though read them quite enamered by the style of the writing. I find this book was hard to put down and I wish it could have gone on longer. By the end of some of the most recent books I had found myself wanting it to end. This book I WANT MORE! Keep um coming!
Rating: Summary: Great Sequel That Really Lives Up To The First Review: I am a huge fan of V.C. Andrews and her "ghostwriter," Andrew Neiderman. When "Rain" first came out, I completely, thoroughly enjoyed it. And the sequel does it complete justice. In this story, Rain goes to London to attend the Drama school, but she must stay with her great-aunt and uncle, who contain a horrifying secret in their dark, scary mansion. And remember Larry Ward, Rain's elusive father who is rumored to be a Shakespearean scholar in England? He fits into the twisting plot as well. I love Rain and the story is vivid and wonderful. A delightful book!
Rating: Summary: Not as good as the first! Review: The book was very dry compared to the first in the series. The author dragged in certain areas and didn't go into depth about the Einfelds. Her experience in London was frankly pretty boring and it seems if the book. However, the ending left me wanting to read the next novel. The book is more original than the other series, because she doesn't have a kid yet. So its good in that aspect
Rating: Summary: Soap Opera On Pages Review: The book I read is titled "Lightning Strikes". It was written by V.C. Andrews. This is the second book in a series called The Hudson series. V.C. Andrews writes all of her books in a series of four or five books. I enjoyed this book greatly. This book kept my attention the whole way through. Rain, was going through so much that I had a hard time putting the book down. Each incident that happened to her seemed like a nightmare and I could never imagine going through what she has gone through. I really enjoy reading stories about people my age because I can realate to some of the characters feelings and things they are going through. I really like how V.C. Andrews writes her books in series because you get the whole life story. I hate when I read a book and I feel that there wasn't enough information or when the author leaves you hanging wothout a sequel. When I read the first book in this series titled "Rain", I didn't know there was a sequel. When I found out I was very excited because all of the questions I had would be answered in the next book. Of course I was looking forward to reading it and was always checking to see when this book would come out. I would definately recommened this book who like reading about one's life and who like a lot of drama in the story. This one definately does. It's like a soap opera on pages.
Rating: Summary: The Cliches Just Keep Coming Review: Yes, it behooves me to admit I read Part II of the so-called "thrilling" Hudson series. And more than likely, I'll be reading the last one as well. I forgot to mention my problem about the characterization of Rain's sister Beni from the first book. Why was the darker-skinned sister portrayed as the troublemaker? I think the Andrews ghost-writers need a little sensitivity training (amongst other things). Talk about catering to stereotypes. Was I hoping that somehow, the ghost writer(s) would vindicate themselves by allowing Rain to become more than a single-dimensional figure? I was obviously asking for way too much. The tawdry tale thus far...Rain Arnold ends up in London, once again taking the world by storm (no pun intended). On her way to theatrical bliss, she finds her real father, gets laid twice, and discovers that her psycho uncle likes to play dress-up with little maids in a dollhouse. Meanwhile, back at home, Rain has become a filthy rich heiress, and her real family isn't thrilled in the least. Haven't we done this already? Not that I'm a prude, but what's this with all the unsafe sex? Why can't a V.C. Andrews novel feature a female character who isn't dropping her panties in every third or fourth chapter? I don't mind sex in a novel when it makes sense, like in romances, where there are two people expressing love in a physical way. And I'm sorry, but Rain having sex with her brother/not brother is the height of tacky. It may have worked for shock value in the Dollenganger Series, but like much of the V.C. Andrews staples, has become too predictable. Are there some unresolved issues in the Andrews' family that should be coming out? Let me give the writers of this stuff a word of advice. If you're looking to emulate the great gothic novelists of the past, do yourselves a favour and READ THEM!
