Rating: Summary: Soap Opera On Pages Review: The book I read is titled "Lightning Strikes". It was written by V.C. Andrews. This is the second book in a series called The Hudson series. V.C. Andrews writes all of her books in a series of four or five books. I enjoyed this book greatly. This book kept my attention the whole way through. Rain, was going through so much that I had a hard time putting the book down. Each incident that happened to her seemed like a nightmare and I could never imagine going through what she has gone through. I really enjoy reading stories about people my age because I can realate to some of the characters feelings and things they are going through. I really like how V.C. Andrews writes her books in series because you get the whole life story. I hate when I read a book and I feel that there wasn't enough information or when the author leaves you hanging wothout a sequel. When I read the first book in this series titled "Rain", I didn't know there was a sequel. When I found out I was very excited because all of the questions I had would be answered in the next book. Of course I was looking forward to reading it and was always checking to see when this book would come out. I would definately recommened this book who like reading about one's life and who like a lot of drama in the story. This one definately does. It's like a soap opera on pages.
Rating: Summary: Not Good Review: I agree with all the negative reviews. I'm tired of brother-sister or half-brother/half-sister unions. I'm also tired of people raised as siblings ending up in the sack. The thing I found most distateful about this book was Roy's stupid phony act of not knowing who Rain was when they finally (and you knew they would) slept together. It was so stupid, phony, contrived and such an insult to all readers' intelligence. Get an umbrella for the RAIN!
Rating: Summary: Lightning doesn't strike twice Review: It goes to show you that sometimes Lighting *doesn't* strike twice. When it comes to V. C. Andrews books, it has "struck" for a long, long time. I know most of the more recent reviews here praise this book being "wonderful", the "best I've ever read"...blah, blah. But, honestly, you want to *real* truth? Okay. I know you do. We find Rain going to London and being the help of her Aunt and Uncle in secret. They don't know her true identity. During this time, she goes to a music school and falls in love, out of love and all the teenage melodrama that has saturated these books since the Ghostwriter took over. We also see Rain on a quest for her real father and we even see Roy again. And ,of course, Rain finds out some secrets that her realtives keep hidden in closed down cottages. And...that's about it. Yep, that's it. Nothing more and nothing less. Call this "Rain's little adventures in London". The book copies many elements of the Cutler series to similar scenes to right down to actually wording. Oh yeah, it also has a little Casteel "mystery" to it but not as pronounced. To be honest, there really isn't anything in this book WORTH celebrating. I could get more drama in a daytime soap opera--during a slow week. Everything was just predictable. You've read the Cutler series? You even *remember* the Cutler series? Then you've got Lightning Strikes. I could have given it a lower score, but I find this to be an improvement from the previous novels. A little more interesting, but not that much.
Rating: Summary: This is the BEST! Review: This series is the best of VC Andrews' that I've read yet! I wasn't happy with the mini series that were out the past year or so...the first was so-so and the last one was just plain terrible. But then, this isn't a review of those books! This series starts out with Rain, about a young girl (named Rain) who is born to a white (high class) college student. Rain's father is black, and her biological grandfather decides to hush it all up, and "give" her away. He pays a low class black family to take her. She is raised in the ghetto's of D.C. with an alcoholic father, a tired mother who works all the time to support her husbands bad habits, and an older brother and sister. Beni, her sister gets killed by gang members, and when the gang comes after Rain, her mother reveals all, when she introduces Rain to her biological mother. Rain's mother wants to hush things up, and decides to send Rain to her biological grandmother's, thinking she'd be thought of as a servant. Here is where Andrew's book differs from her previous writings. I expected the grandmother to be mean and evil, as most of them have been in her past books. Not so in this one. Although she seems to made of steel and resembles in some ways the grandmothers of past books, this one has a heart. She sends Rain off to England to study drama, and pays her way. That is what this second book is about, Rain's time in England. Rain goes to live with her biological great aunt and uncle, but they aren't aware of her biological relation. They put her in a small room in the servant's quarters, rumored to be haunted. She meets Boggs, who seems really mean and nasty but in the end, seems to be ok in his own way. I really don't want to reveal much more about the book, as it is SOOOO good! She meets her biological father, so the next book most likely delves more into that. Grandmother dies at the end of this book, and leaves her a large legacy. Of course, the evil aunt wants to fight the will. I would love to see THAT one get her come-uppance! I can't recommend this series enough. I would imagine as more books are written, that more and more of the work is written by a different author, since Andrew's has passed away. If this is the case, I hope they have this author writing more and more, because I highly commend their work on this one! It's a keeper!
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I have read all of V.C. Andrews books and a common theme between many of them is that the main character (a woman) is always a very strong, independant person. Rain is no exception in this book. As always she is a great example to young women. She shows them that there is no fear in having your own opinion and that women can accomplish anything they set their minds to. This book is great. I would recommend this book to anyone especially young girls.
Rating: Summary: This is a great book. Review: This book (like most written by VC Andrews) is terrific. Even though she passed away, the outlines and story ideas she left behind guarantee many more wonderful books to come. I think the writer the family selected has continued the tradition begun by Viriginia Andrews. I definitly recommend this series.
Rating: Summary: THE USUAL Review: Any VC Andrews/Ghostwriter reader knows the scenario: one talented young female, shadowy mansions, a change in economic status and of course, incest. I really didn't like the way Roy put on that stupid phony act (p. 321) of not knowing who Rain was. I agree that it does insult the readers' intelligence. That part really turned me off. You knew right off the bat Rain and Roy would become lovers. How much do you want to bet by the next installment Rain has Roy's love child? One can bet she has a Roy, Jr. or a girl with a nature themed name. The Rain series would have been good if Rain and Roy had kept their relationship fraternal as they were raised like siblings. With VC Andrews/GW, these kinds of incestuous and quasi-incestuous unions are standard fare. Skip this one.
Rating: Summary: this is a great book Review: I love V.C. Andrews and when I saw a new series i knew i had to read it. When i read Rain i couldn't put it down and the same with Lightning Strikes. The book tells you about her continueing to England to persue an acting career and she is stay with relatives that don't know she is related which in the end turns out bad. Also she learns more about her father which makes the book even better. And of course her brother Roy is back and still loves her as much. Well i really enjoyed this book and can't wait till the next one comes out. Hope you enjoy it too.
Rating: Summary: Predictable Review: It's been said that all VC Andrews books are predictable. They are. I didn't like the way Rain ended up sleeping with Roy. They were raised like siblings. It insults your intelligence when Roy puts on that stupid act of not knowing who Rain is when they sleep together. It is a tired old story. VC Andrews books are pretty much all the same.
Rating: Summary: Classic, standard VC Andrews Review: Well....If you like Vc Andrews you will like this book. It didn't hold my attention, but Rain seemed a lot nicer in this book. I liked all the information about England, this is the first time they've really had a VCA character go to another country. Nice idea. I think I'm getting bored with these books, but for VC Andrews it was more than adequate, it was right up there with Ruby and Dawn.
