Rating: Summary: What happens in the past can haunt you in the present... Review: The Congers were once the richest and most influential family in a small town until the worst happened. A little girl is dead and a man has gone crazy... One hundred year later, the Congers are not as rich and are plagued by a century old curse. An old painting of an unkown little girl is unsurfaced and then the children start disappearing...This story is truly frightening. The details of certain scenes are graphic and startling and the plot twists in directions that are surprising. The ending didn't leave me satisfied and brought up more questions then it did answers...
Rating: Summary: the scariest book i've ever read Review: The first time I read this book was about 15 years ago. I was so scared, I couldn't sleep for weeks, I have never forgotton how scary the little girl elizabeth was, and her giving the children sand sandwiches to eat.
Rating: Summary: It`s all about children. Review: This book is dealing with the children, their way of thinking and nobody who is somebody could do it better than John Saul. Neither Freud. It`s not really a horror novel but it contains such gore that would make certain weak people nervous. That`s probably the reason that doesn`t exist a movie called "Suffer The Children". Not yet.
Rating: Summary: A Chilling Thriller Review: This book is one of the best books that I have ever read. My favorite scene is in the cave with the decapitated cat. An excellent book!
Rating: Summary: wonderful!! Mom first read this to me years ago. Review: This is by far J. Sauls BEST book. It takes you, grabs you and it will not let you go. You live it as you read, even as it scares you to DEATH!! Slow painful murders, an evil child, blood, and a grizzly cat all add to the night of horror you will spend reading this book. Grab a blanket a pillow and a flash light. You won't want to be in the Dark after reading this book. ENJOY!!!
Rating: Summary: The most gruesome and horrific book by Saul!! Review: This is Sauls first ever and best ever novel! The plot was great, and it left you begging for more. I loved the gruesome bloody cave scene that tells everything in full detail! When is he gonna make more books like this one? Ive read every book and I am reading every book a second time now, and they are even better than the firsttime I read them!
Rating: Summary: Creepy!!! Review: This was a fantastic, well-written book. I couldn't quit thinking about it after I read it. Even though, as some reviewers have stated, it does leave things somewhat unresolved, it stills tells a terrific horror story. Then ending is just a classic Saul ending.
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good, but the ending seemed to be missing. Review: This was the first John Saul book I've ever read and the story grabbed me quickly, indeed I read the entire story in two days. I was so expecting a great ending, but was denied. At first I thought I was missing the last chapter (maybe I was), but it just trailed off without any real closure I felt. A good read anyway.
Rating: Summary: Great Story Until The End Review: This was the first Saul book I read and I was captivated with the story to the point where I couldn't put it down. Then I got to the end. Like another reviewer said absolutely nothing was resolved. Why bother telling the story at all if there won't be some kind of conclusion. To me it seemed as though Saul's deadline was up and he just wrapped it up. I've heard such great things about his writing that I decided to read another of his books....Punish The Sinners.....and wouldn't you know he did it again. I don't know if this is his sytle of writing or I just happened to pick the wrong books but they've sworn me off his writing for good.
Rating: Summary: It was very good, but I've read much better Review: Well, this book took me a while to get into, but most John Saul books do, the first one I read my him was Nathaniel, then The Homing and so on, they all took me a while to get into, but when I finished them I did feel a sense of satisfaction, maybe because they took me so long to finish, when I can read a Stephen King, Anne Rice, Dean Koontz or V. C. Andrews book very quickly. They story was not scary, I have yet to read a supposed "horror" novel that scares me, with the exception of The Amyityville Horror, but anyway, this book could be scary I suppose if you place yourself in the characters positions, like any other horror novel. I couldn't believe the ending, and I was pretty disappointed with it, I knew this was John Sauls first novel and the first paperback original to be a #1 new york times bestseller, since he came out before V. C. Andrews, who later topped the charts with every one of her books, but I was expecting so much more. The cave scenes were gruesome, I give him credit for that, and the spasms between Jack and Rose were good, I just couldn't believe how it ended, with that ending, I expect a sequel, but he's not the kind of writer to write series, but all in all, it was an exceptional book, i just wasn't too fond of the ending.
