Summary: Brilliant...of course
Review: Little is the master of horrific satire aimed at the institutions of contemporary society {the university, the chain store, the homeowners' association, the post office} and here he takes on his biggest target yet--insurance companies. Unlike some other high-profile horror authors who've gone soft in their old age, Little is still up for anything. His work is chock full of graphic sex and violence...as well as believable sympathetic characters and thought-provoking social commentary. Another great novel by horror's vest writer.

Summary: Too Close for Comfort!
Review: Mr. Little may be accused of following a formula, but that is exactly why I read every one of his books! No different than Clive Cussler for example, or the rock band AC/DC. You know what you're getting!

I love the way he gradually increases the perversion of the insurance salesman and his weird policies. And I love the heroes and their fight against the insurance agent. Bentley is good at adding perverted twists to the bad guys a little at a time and I'll just about bet that he has had a bad experience or two with insurance. Like he did with homeowners associations in The Association, he hits on a rather sensitive and somewhat true example of our American society. It seems we need insurance for just about everything and he takes that need to the extreme. Makes you wonder what all that fine print really says on your insurance policies! Well done!

Review: My first experience with Bentley Little was The Collection of short stories. I enjoyed that a lot, but this. I'm speechless. Dull......Annoying....Check it out of your library, don't waste money on buying it. It was entertaining, but not great. It just seemed to get more and more ridiculous. And the end, of my gosh, the end. Boring...lame...no action. Overall, entertaining, but not worth buying or reading again...or going out of your way to read at all.

Summary: Everyday Things Become Horrific
Review: That's what Bentley Little writes about. Seemingly innocuous things, people, places, we never thing twice about. Our mail carrier, the new superstore that's opening, a home owner's association in a gated community, the university in your hometown. And whatever you do, bad things are going to happen when you relocate or decide to move back home to where you grew up!

The Policy deals with our need for insurance - plain and simple. It's something we all have. It's just *there*. Think nothing of it. Life, home owners', health, car and even renters' insurance.

But, what if your insurance company went wrong? Terribly, sinisterly wrong?

This is what happens to Hunt Jackson, who decided to move home to Tucson, AZ from L.A. after his marriage ends.

At first things go well. He meets up with his childhood best friend. Even finds a new love. Has to take a job as a tree trimmer despite his job was in computers, but he doesn't mind. He likes his co-workers, just not Steve, their supervisor.

Slowly, things start to go wrong with his insurance claims. And an eerie, enigmatic salesman always appears at the right time to sell you new insurance. His company's name? Simply The Insurance Company. But, what happens when you tell the salesman "no"?

This is the plot of the The Privacy.

Eventually, Hunt is joined by his co-workers and friends as they too begin to become victims of the salesman and the ever-growing demands he brings for new, different insurance coverage. Coverage for *everything*.

It doesn't take the reader long to realize this insurance salesman is not quite human, if at all, nor are the others that work for The Insurance Company. How far does the company reach and how far back in time do they go?

A must read for any Little fan. Personally, I have all his books. Keep him on your horror radar. And new readers will not be disappointed either.

Summary: "My first Bentley Little book--and probably my last., "
Review: The above is a quotation from a review of another Bentley Little book, written by another reviewer, but it applies just as well to my opinion of this book. I try not to review books I haven't finished, but I know in my heart I will never finish this one.

The writing is bland. The characterization is often laughable. The dialogue is primarily just thinly-veiled authorial screeds. It was just an all-around bad book, although at least it was written in complete sentences.

Summary: Good creepy horror
Review: There has been more than a little controversy over the years regarding the insurance industry, but even the worst of these companies would not be as sinister as what Bentley Little depicts in his latest book. In The Policy, the characters deal with what could only be described as the insurance company from Hell.

The story focuses on Hunt Jackson, who has recently divorced and moved to his old hometown. In some senses, things are going well: he has reconnected with old friends, gotten a good job and found a new girlfriend. On the other hand, he has to deal with an aggressive insurance agent who is constantly promoting additional insurances...and practically promising consequences if the insurance isn't purchased. The types of insurance get more and more bizarre and the associated customer service is far more nightmarish than the typical computer automated maze. But there is no escaping this nameless insurance agent and his offerings.

This is only the second Little book I've read, but it is entertaining enough to earn my highest compliment. Not only am I giving it five stars, I've been inspired to buy more of his books. For horror fans, this will not be a disappointment.

Summary: Clever Idea, Disappointing Ending
Review: This book was fantastic...if you have any sense of humor you will find many parts absolutely hilarious. The scary supernatual aspects affect the characters the same way they would you or me. That's what makes you care about the characters, and what makes it so funny. Usually I think Bentley's stories are a little over the top, but this was one of the most enjoyable horror stories I have ever read. I strongly reccommend you get this.
