Rating: Summary: Twilight Eyes by Dean koontz Review: Dean Koontz is known for his gruesome and surprising horror novels. his writings can be compared to the likes of Steven King."Twilight eyes", is no different than this style of writing. It also includes surprising twists, different characters, and revoltingly frightening images. "Twilight eyes", is about a drifter who is wanted by the police for murder. Even though he did commit murder the police don't know the whole situation. Slim (the main character), has the ability to see demonic goblins disguised as humans. And is forced to fight the goblins to save main kind. You feel for the main characters in this book. They are the outcasts of their world. Their actions at times cause people to think there insane, but they are really trying to save lives! On the outside these characters may seem malicious but in fact they are very noble and brave. The fighting in this novel is very vicious. Unlike the common fight of punching and kicking, Koontz describes biting, ripping and burning of flesh. This at times can make you cringe at the thought of these actions. I suggest if your squeamish not to read this book. Even though Koontz uses very gruesome and sometimes disturbing images, he displays his imagery with such detail at times you feel your there. This can get a reader more involved in a plot of a story. And this is especially useful to scare a reader in a horror novel. Overall I would recommend this book to just about anyone who believes in standing up for what they believe in. This is a very important lesson "twilight eyes", portrays. Everyone could learn from it even a horror fan.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: I am still currently reading this novel. I find it compelling, and it's one of the great books I've read. I recommend it to anyone and all of my friends. Dean Koontz has a great talent to write and also has a great mind. I suggest you read this book.
Rating: Summary: Unclassifiable Horror Review: I feel a synopsis of the book has already been done many times in other reviews so I will give my opinion on the book. By unclassifiable horror, I mean this book was not quite horror. Not quite science fiction. Not quite romance. Not quite thriller. It was a combination of these things built around a very down to earth breed of characters that everyone can relate to. I gave this book five stars because I enjoy long, detailed explanations of the tiniest element. The kind of book that just wouldn't be as good as a movie. Much like an Anne Rice book. There's too much subtext and detail to accurately transform to visual. But that's why it's such a good book. I am totally NOT a reader, i can count the novels i've read on one hand. And this being the fifth, (second Koontz) I must say this is the best. You feel the feelings and the thoughts. It is very easy to visualize exactly what is happening. So, do yourself a favor and read Twilight Eyes by Dean Koontz.
Rating: Summary: DIFFERENT.............. Review: This book was alittle on the strange side. I still am trying to sort through all the situations and characters....It was alittle creepy but not even close to Koontz's other scarey novels. It was kind of slow in some spots. The word DIFFERENT..comes to mind..
Rating: Summary: Quite the page-turner! Review: I love this story! I just finished reading it about an hour ago and was on edge with every page. It's an incredible story of good triumphing over evil and love conquering all.
Rating: Summary: Best of one of the best Review: One of the few books in my life that I have read twice. It is a great good verses evil story. It has everything from love to explosions. All your questions are answered by the end except will they go back for more. Needs a book two. One of my favorites
Rating: Summary: Amazing...Turned me on to Dean Koontz Review: This was the very first book I had ever read of Dean Koontz. It was one of many on my summer reading list that I chose back in high school, and I haven't stopped reading him since. This book is amazing and it is still my favorite. Although I haven't even made a dent in his writings, I really enjoy reading his work and look forward to his next.
Rating: Summary: A Good Novel with a Weak Ending Review: This is the first of the Dean Koontz line that I have read, and I can honestly say that I understand why so many attribute Koontz to Stephen King. The writing styles are similar, however, Koontz appears to be more "romantic" in his verbage, more descriptive with the people and places in his novel(s). Sometimes, perhaps a little too descriptive. With this particular offering, Koontz wove a wonderful tale in the set up, leaving very little detail out. He is a creative writer, giving 3-dimensional feeling to his work. The characters are unique, and appealing. The crux of the story, however, the heated ending, if you will, lacked true fire. Rather than to blaze, it merely burned and then trickled out. The ending left quite a bit to be desired, almost as if Koontz thought maybe one day he would carry on the story line? A true dissapointment for my first go-round with Koontz.
Rating: Summary: This guy ain't no Stephen King. Review: I have mixed feelings about Dean Koontz & his books. This book only added to my confusion about whether he's any good or just an also ran. My feelings for this book started off positive, then dropped down so low I thought about giving up and tossing it aside at one point. Finally, the ending was decent enough. I planned on only giving it 1-2 stars when I was in the middle of it. Anyway, what's the problem? The problem is the plot and Koontz's writing. Sure the idea behind the story is neat. There was a nuclear holocaust long, long ago unbeknownst to present-day man. These mutants, unimaginatively called "goblins", had fought in the war and their decendants are now amassing weapons to cleanse the planet with fire yet again. Only our protagonist, Slim, can see through these goblin's disguises and try to stop their evil plot. So although the basic idea is good the story repeats itself continuously, is unimaginatively written, and boring in several places. Several hundred pages go like this: hero sees through goblin's disguise, hero tortures goblin to discover his evil plot, hero kills goblin with knife, hero has marital relations with his better half. Stephen King's stories (at least his old ones) are much more captivating because they focus on the people in the story. There is none of that here. You never really get into the minds of the protagonists here and don't much care what happens to them at the end.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not his best! Review: I like Koontz' more recent novels better. They are perfect, almost all of them. Of his older novels, this is certainly one of the best books he wrote then. It has some minor flaws, though. In the descriptive passages the author tends to be a bit too talkative and in love with his own imagination and images. Even descriptions of places and items of minor or no importance become too long and are counterproductive to the suspense that should be predominant in a novel like this. Not that I speak against a moment of relaxation in the middle of thrilling action, but here, I find, the author exaggerated a bit. In addition, some of the characters' actions are not really motivated. Rya's reaction on the killing of Kelso is not based on the context of her character as described so far, and it does not have any impact on her future actions and the plot, either. But this is a great novel, a page turner that you cannot lay down. The story is very unusual, but this makes it all the better. And the carnival setting is one of the author's best ideas. You can see the later Koontz emerge in this novel. A very good book!
