Rating: Summary: The novel scared me out of my witts. I've been so afraid. Review: Second Child by John Saul was the most chilling book I've ever read. It kept my attention and wouldn't let go. This was writting at its best. Phylis was the very personification of the overbearing mother. I felt sorry for Melissa throughout the whole novel, and Terry got what she deserved at the end. I loved it, and my friends loved it too. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: A thrilling novel by John Saul! Review: Second Child is a thrilling and bone chilling novel. I love the way the characters seems so life like. Second Child was the first book I had ever read by John Saul and I will have to admit it is my favorite. John Saul is a talented and gifted writer and I hope he will keep writing books as great as this one.
Rating: Summary: Evil in a Pretty little Package Review: Second child was a different and unique approach. It'swasn't really gory or horror filled but had physiological elements interweaved into it. It shows how the mind can create it's own shadow and project it outward into something concrete. But the question is, is it real or not? This book was somewhat self-deluded and superficial with its rich country club environment. Poor rich girl scnerio... This story had such potential and it is different from most books out there; however, Saul seems to get lost himself, as though he's not sure where it's all going. Some of the characters are flat and two dimentional. The only one that seemed to have any depth and the most creepy feeling was Teri... I was really disappointed, I've read other books by Saul that are much better. Second Child is a miss that really won't be missed.
Rating: Summary: Truly shocking!!! Review: The best book that I have read in a decade. Filled with loads of suspense!!! You really feel like you know every character. All I can say is that you must read this book.

Rating: Summary: A page turner Review: This book was great. I am a recent fan of John Saul but this is the best one I have read. I am a social worker and it was hard at times to read about the abuse Melissa received from her mother but Phyllis and Teri got it in the end. I am a serial bookworm and I would strongly recommend this book
Rating: Summary: One of my favorits. Review: This is a great book. It grabs you from the first page, and leads you on a journey you will not forget. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Fun and Gory Review: This is my favorite Saul novel. I don't know why it is so much better than his others, but it simply is. The characters are interesting, the story flows quickly, and there is plenty of horror and blood to be found. It is definitely not for the sqeamish; Saul goes into brutal detail on murders and abuse. 13 year old Melissa finds her already tumultuous world turned upside down by the arrival of her father's first born daughter Teri. Unsure of herself and abused by her own mother, she hopes that this newcomer can turn out to be an ally. But stranger and stranger things keeps happening, and Teri is not all she pretends to be. The characters are written well and we never stop caring for Melissa, who is my favorite here. The ending is satisfying in the best possible way. Saul has not written anything close to this in his career. If you read this one first, as I did, you will only be somewhat let down by his other works. Original, daring and downright gross at times, it is a fun read and should not be ignored.
