Rating: Summary: Intriguing... Review: This is the first book that I have read by Straub. The book had been sitting on the shelf at my mother's house for the longest, and I would always pick it up and look at the cover, but never decided to read it. I finally did, and what a journey! Straub has a way of pulling you straight into the story, sensing everything that the characters are sensing - smells, sounds, sights - it got to the point where I would forget where I was. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I felt some parts in the story just dragged on and had no relevance. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and can't wait to read the others he has written.
Rating: Summary: An excellent continuation of Tim Underhill's life Review: This one took a while to finish but it wasn't because of the book. I ended up with a lot of other things happening and just didn't have time. The Throat is another book in the same "world" as Koko and Mystery which is great because I really enjoyed Tom Passmore from the later book and wanted to see more of him. In order to keep the book accessible for new readers and those who have forgotten, parts of the first couple of chapters go over stuff from other sources. I think that they include a couple of short stories also. But the book quickly picks up speed as Tim Underhill starts probing and trying to find out who killed his friend's wife and why it is part of the Blue Rose murders. It is a very good book and at times I wanted to keep reading, but my body would be too tired and I would fall asleep. A lot of stuff was revealed about Underhill's time in Vietnam and of his past. If you read any of the other books in the same vein, then consider The Throat another must read.
Rating: Summary: Better than Mystery but still a bore in the end Review: What I really liked about this book was the characters. Straub took settings and situations that mostly are reserved for female characters and filled them in with men. The range of emotions displayed by each male in this book was unique and refreshing to see. Now, as for the story, it was okay but again I was let down. this book does connect the other two together but mystry and Throat failed to keep up the suspense that was evident in Koko. I read or in my case listened to all three back to back and each could have stood on its own. Again, if you enjoy mysteries, read this one as well, but not for strict horror fans. Out of all the books I have listened so far by this author, Ghost Story is the best followed by Koko and then Houses without Doors where all this Blue Rose business begins.

Rating: Summary: The story was gripping. Review: William H Macy read the book and it was enjoyable listening to him use different voices for the characters. This is the first audiobook I'd listened to and once I started I didn't stop until the last tape was done. The story was well written and engaging I spent awhile trying to figure out who had done it. I highly recommend the book.
Rating: Summary: Just like the real world ! Review: With The Throat Straub has reached what other authors will never do: he created brilliant characters you want to go on with. The whole book is a truly realistic world of its own. Besides "If you could see me now" the best book he has written ( not like the ugly Ghost Story).
