Rating: Summary: It is great for your collection, but not necessary Review: This novel is good, but not great. It does not have too much impact on the storyline, kind of like a side chapter of the series. The best part of it is that it tells you a lot behind the mysterious Trent. Here is the story: Trent has Rebecca, Leon, Claire, David, and John break into an umbrella lab and stop one of the head people behind the Umbrella BOW reasearch. He then traps Leon, John, and an Umbrella scientist in a training ground where they have to fight against several BOW monsters (Scorpians, Hunters, etc.), while David, Rebecca, and Claire run from Umbrella agents. The story is interesting, but it can be repetitive, so I recommend reading it so you can enjoy the rest of the books. Remember to always read this collection in order, or you will be lost thhroughout the series. Best book of series to worst: Umbrella Conspiracy City of the Dead Nemesis Caliban Cove Underworld
Rating: Summary: What the book is basicly about Review: All the book is really about is what happens to Clair and Leon after the Racoon City problem. They met up with Ex-star members and go on a mission to get a special secert Umbrella black book that holds all the codes for secret umbrella activaties. If you dont understand what I'm saying please read the first 3 books first.
Rating: Summary: When I got here there were forty six reviews! Review: I'm surprised that there was forty six people who read the fourth novel. Personally, I read all the novels because I wanted to learn from Perry's mistakes. Perry gives a bad name to women writers.
Rating: Summary: More Jurassic Park-ish than Resident Evil Review: I have played through the three Resident Evil (R.E.) adventures, and I am a big fan of the series. Which was why I set off looking to devour books on the R.E. series. If you're a hardcore R.E. fan, this would be one of the few books on the market that mention characters/organisations in the games, e.g. Claire Redfield, Leon Kennedy, STARS, Umbrella etc. It's an interesting take on what else the characters could have been up to before and after they were involved in the R.E. games, although sometimes it feels like the world in the book is in a separate, parallel dimension, with little in common besides the names of the characters. The story in this book sounds like it belongs more in the world of Jurassic Park than Resident Evil. The main creatures in this book are bio-engineered monsters, not zombies as in the games. The link between Umbrella--a pharmaceutical company--and why they created monsters, is not explored fully. The general impression is a theme park for creatures, like in Jurassic Park. If you're just looking for an adventure book to read, this book is a light, digestible tidbit for bedtime reading. The monsters won't give you nightmares, but the author manages to keep the story going at a fairly good pace. It kept my attention, but I couldn't help thinking that there were too many coincidences in the book, e.g. events that were just too convenient for the story. Character development is kept to a minimum--don't look for any breaking news on a character. The author did try a little romantic involvement, but that got buried in the action one-fifth into the story, and didn't return. Overall, I would consider this an average adventure book with almost nothing to do with the R.E. games. Character and plot development aren't a serious consideration here, since the author is probably restricted by the storyline in the games. Instead, she has concentrated on a pure action book that has monsters, guns, and problems that require the team's attention.
Rating: Summary: Underworld Review: With Underworld, SD Perry confirms that her own work, while competent, is not up to the standard she can meet when adapting something. Like Caliban Cove, Underworld is not as richly detailed as her novelizations of Resident Evil games. Her own, non-adapted, stories lack the complexity of her game-inspired novels. Environments are plain, and there isn't the sense of scale that you get with the game-stories. Character-chemistry is simplistic (more so, I think, than her game adaptations), and in Underworld too similar to that of Caliban Cove: we follow a team of heroes who like-and-respect-each other against a lonely megalomaniac villain. Perry's own heroes are re-introduced in Underworld after being necessarily sidelined for City of the Dead, and do not really make an impression. David is instantly tiresome as we re-tread the self-doubt that was already covered in Caliban Cove. The creatures in Underworld further demonstrate Perry's unequal imagination. Deciding not to use familiar Resident Evil monsters, she gives us pterodactyls, giant scorpions, and reptilian goats. These are neatly kept in their own areas, which enforces the sense of simplicity. The test areas for these creatures are even created as squares within a square building. This kind of design is consistent with Caliban Cove's environment, where the installation is a series of perfect block-shaped buildings. Comparing Perry's own novels to her adaptations reminds me of an artist whose own drawing style is very different to her style for commissioned-work. The analogy is that for her own novels, she draws in simple lines and shapes, but when doing adaptations, she draws in detail because she has a model to work from and must achieve likeness. Underworld, like Caliban Cove, is not a bad book exactly. It just isn't particularly good. Underworld follows City of the Dead, a very good novelization of Resident Evil 2. But even the presence of City of the Dead heroes, Claire and Leon, brings none of that book's thrill-factor to Underworld. This does not feel like a worthy follow-up to City of the Dead's excellent story.
Rating: Summary: It was good. Review: I thought it was very good. It tells you what is in store for the ex-S.T.A.R.S. I liked the last part of the book, it tells you why Mr. Trent like's to hert Unbrella.
Rating: Summary: The Resident Evil books are getting better. Review: It was a very good book, but very exsitting. It is a very good books.
Rating: Summary: Resident Underestimated Review: This is the 4th and worst of the books i have read but still its great fun. This book sees Leon,Claire,Rebecca,David and John heading to Uta to destroy yet another Umbrella complex dont they ever get tired of these things. I found this book for some reason not as good as the others even Calbian Cove. I know that it is an original story but she has not even got a damm zombie in the whole thing and has a creature called Fossils in it which brought back deja vu for me because in my review of Calbian Cove i sayed that the creatures were poor and not very good. I actually while reading this i felt that i was getting exicited when the book was telling of Johan and Leons ordeal and then getting bored to tears by David and the others ordeal. Also i think that the inclusion of Rebecca again is getting a bit tiresome. Anyhow enough of that the book still provides some great moments and like i have just said you will enjoy Leon and Johns situation to bits its really well done and the inclusion of an electricain is hilaroius. While this review may sound negative i would still buy this book 1 because its an enjoyable read and 2Because you will miss out on a part of the whole saga. Just dont think you will feel the same magic as the first 3 books.
Rating: Summary: Resident Evil: Under-rated. Review: Well, now! That was an interesting ending... No, I'm not gonna tell you. After reading City Of The Dead, I was expecting this book to reveal what the surviving S.T.A.R.S. would do in Europe, but this was an excellent follow-up book to Caliban Cove. I suggest reading at least that one before you read this one. But I'm not you. So go ahead. Read the series. Far too many people have turned their noses at this thrilling series already. Your adrenaline glands will hate you for it, but your brain will love you forever. Just don't read too hard, or your reaction time might suffer. Don't want to be eaten, do you?
