Summary: I'd like to recommend this book...BUT
Review: It was a quick read and did a pretty fair job of novelizing the first episode but it also tried a little too hard to delve into Angel's past. If I had read this book when the show first came out I would have probably enjoyed it more but now we're in the middle of season three and almost every 'background' sequence in the book is contradictory to what has happened on the show. Although it was entertaining to read I just kept thinking "That couldn't have happened that way."
I'm also not sure what they were trying to do here. They say the show is targeted more towards an adult audience but this book is obviously written on a 'younger' level. This book was well written but because of the inconsistencies I really can't recommend it to fans of the show.

Summary: This was the best Angle book I have ever read.
Review: It was the first angel book i have read and i loved it. It was brilliant the way Nancy Holder captured what Angel was thinking in the episode. I also have read The Faith Trials so if you like this you would like that. This is why i gave this book 5 stars.

Summary: Like the tv show - only better
Review: Leaving Buffy behind, Angel moves to the cold and heartless streets of Los Angeles. On the streets he continues the work he began with Buffy, fighting the vampires and their kin. When Doyle enters his life Angel isn't too thrilled. Doyle has big ideas about paying for the evil Angelus did - Angel just wants to do good. When he discovers a powerful vampire stalking the hopeful young actresses of Hollywood, Angel has no idea he will be saving the life of a friend.

After two years of waiting for the show to be seen in New Zealand I can finally compare the novel to the pilot - and all I can say is that the book is definitely worth reading. Nancy Holder has a real gift for doing the Buffy and Angel tie-ins and she really brings you into the minds and background of the characters. By reading this book you will learn a lot more about Angels past - which is always a good thing.

Summary: For Any ANGEL Fan NEW or Old
Review: This book explores ANGEL'S past setting the mood for the books to come and shows, that follow. Fans will love this book and believe me it's a must have.

Summary: Thoughtful writing and precise characterization
Review: This book provides a wonderful starting point for the exciting new Angel series. Holder keeps a firm grasp on Angel's past, interlocking memories with moments of the present. I have always enjoyed Holder's characterization of the Buffy/Angel relationship, and Holder does not disappoint. A definite must-have for any fans of the two series!

Summary: Excellent Work by Nancy Holder
Review: This is a great book. A must read for fans of Buffy and Angel. The only problem was a slip up where the author said the Drusilla changed Spike. (It was Angel who did it. A quote from the ep School Hard.. Spike: "You were my sire, man. You were my Yoda!") I rest my case. But it was a really good book, outlining the first episode with some flashbacks set it. A good read, I finished it in about 3 hours..

Summary: Way cool!
Review: This is the best BVS/Angel book I have EVER read. Not only is it a novelization of the series premire, but for all of you BVS/Angel fans who don't know the backround story, it tells you that too. From when Angeleus died to when he was given a soul. This is a must read for all BVS/Angel fans.

Summary: A delightful departure from the television show
Review: While Angel: City of is a novelization of the pilot episode for Angel, the book is not just a boring, word for word write up. It uses the pilot as a basis for this story, and yes, a few clips of dialog are exact, but there is much more than could be aired.

Much of Angel's love story is given, painful background that lead to him having to leave. The reader is also treated to a deeper insight as to how painful that breakup was for Angel to endure. We were also given a glimpse into his creation (although this story differs slightly from the one that was later given in the television series) and we are treated to some new, previously unmentioned exploits of SPIKE and DRU, back when they bathed the world in blood.

The title of the book is Angel, so unfortunately, we see little of Doyle, but we are shown a tad bit more of Cordy. Still many of the Buffy/Angel characters appear, even Jenny Calendar, Willow, Darla, the Master, Giles, Xander, and more.

A worthy investment for the details that are included in the book, but not the television show.
