Rating: Summary: Definiately Rated R Review: I decided to give Edward Lee a chance, I'm not much of a horror reader- I prefer the movies. However, I found alot of unnecessary sex/rape scenes, I could have done without that. I'm sure Edward Lee could have come up with a more creative and less obscene way to describe his scenes and still be scary. Overall the rest of the story was entertaining, there was always something lurking around or something questionable going on, it was hard to put this book down- I read it in two days, it was very suspenseful. I would probably read Edward Lee's next book, but if the rape and sex scenes are even more than they were in this book, it will probably be the last I read from him.
Rating: Summary: Stay out of dark caves! Review: I read this book and found myself wanting to get back and read more. This writer's style is good and in this novel, his characterization is great. The characterization more or less carries the novel. Not five stars, though. I thought the conflict, which I won't mention here to spoil it for potential readers, is a more than an overworked conflict. Good writing, though. Never a dull moment. Worth a read. I start reading many books and put down many after the first ten or so pages. I read this one through. A strong four stars!
Rating: Summary: fun, exciting read Review: I really enjoyed 'Monstrosity'. The main characters were interesting, the monsters were gruesome and the action rarely let up. I always looked forward to picking this book up again. One day, I drove home from work, realized I'd accidentally left it there and drove all the way back to get it just so I could continue reading that night. The plot really pulls you in quickly. I wish Mr. Lee could've taken a little more time with all of the wild developments at the end of the book, but by that time the plot was racing along so fast I guess there was no time to stop and smell any roses. All in all, an exciting, disturbing, fast-moving, well-written and highly entertaining novel. This was the first novel I'd read by Edward Lee, but as soon as I finished I went out and bought 'City Infernal' - I can't wait for his next new novel.
Rating: Summary: Is the author twelve years old or something? Review: In a nutshell, let's just say I had very high hopes for Lee, an author I'd never read but heard good things about. This book was really awful. The dialogue was stilted, the plot plodded along, and like another reviewer pointed out, the ending was really just ridiculous. I guess I was just fed up of waiting for the new Stephen King to come out (thank God that's over.)
Rating: Summary: RIDICULOUS Review: It breaks my heart to give Edward 2 stars, but this book just didn't cut it. I felt him holding back in scene after scene. At lot of promises but very little payoff. I'm a big fan of his work and found this to be his tamest novel to date. I realize the author was hospitalized around the time he wrote this, so maybe that had something to do with it, but I was disappointed nonetheless. If you want a real dose of Ed Lee's magic and imagination, read "City Infernal". Or, for a truly gut-wrentching experience, read "The Chosen".
Rating: Summary: BORING! gore fest wasn't what I expected with Lee Review: Man was I dissapointed with this book. To be honest I only got halfway through but had to put it down due to the lack of suspense, scare factor, plotline etc. Most of the beginning of the book focuses on a security officer who is adjusting to her new job. For some reason that doesn't scream scary story to me. I found it so difficult to read through boring paragraph after paragraph that I finally said enough is enough and put this book down. I expected so much more from this author as alot of people praise his work. This is the first book of Lee's that I've read and will likely give him one more chance but...
I hear his other book Creepers (out of print) is really good. If you want to read a scary and very gripping book try Masterton's "The House that Jack Built".
Rating: Summary: Mummies and aliens and human-faced rats, oh my! Review: Many horror novels that I have read recently I found that I could barely, or in some cases, not finish...this was not one of them. I really couldn't put it down. For old-fashioned horror that doesn't try to be anything but, this is perfect. Mad scientists, underground grottos, giant frogs, giant eels, mutants, humid, lonely woods...I mean, there are elements from every seventies/eighties B horror movie you can think of, from "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" to "The Boogens." For good measure, there's even a dollop of aliens (...I think, I was unclear about the ending, I must admit). Along with Douglas Clegg's "Hour Before Dark" and Simon Clark's "Darkness Demands," this is the most suspensful, creepy and downright disturbingly frightening book I've read in a long, long time. Highly recommended! (And I'm very hard to please when it comes to any genre, but particularly "horror.") NOT FOR ANYONE UNDER 18, HOWEVER! BIG KIDS ONLY, I'M AFRAID!
Rating: Summary: Good book with a great ending Review: Monstrosity is a page turning horror novel. I thought that all the characters were well developed, and the story was very original. You wont get bored with this book, I can promise you that.
The last 20 pages has the be the best part though. The twist at the end will blow your mind.
Lee does it again. He is really proving that he is the most hard-core horror writer out there

Rating: Summary: A Genetic Experiment Gone Wrong Review: The characters are sketches. There is no suspense whatsoever. This thing reads unintentionally like juvenile fiction. It was gorey enough. It was a very fast read. Let's face it. Lee can be entertaining. But his novels are so simple that I sometimes fear he's either insulting us, or is just kind of dumb. I like Lee. But he's not a good writer. Monstrosity is a lame book.
