Rating: Summary: Atwater-Rhodes just gets better! Review: I read In the forests of the night before I read this. Both are the best books I have ever read. Just like her first, Atwater-Rhodes throws all of the old vampire myths out the window. Jessica is a teen writer, she happens to write about vampires, and everything she writes is true! Of course she has no idea until a new student arrives. No matter how hard she tries, she can not shake the felling that the new kid is a character from her books. When things get dangerous she learns more about vampires than she wants to.
Rating: Summary: Ko0L Review: This book was great. Very catching. Actually, both her books were great. And her being only 15, that has inspired me to write as well! After I read her books, I started writing my own that I hope to get published some day. Though I'm still younger than her (14), I still hope that I can do as she did!
Rating: Summary: Demon in My View- A great book Review: "Demon in My View" is an amazing sequel to "In the Forests of the Night". This young author has presented to the world two fascanating and intriguing novels which I couldn't put down. I would recommend this book to fans of "Angel" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".
Rating: Summary: Aubrey's Back!!! and this time he's good Review: I just loved this book. I read her first book (In the forests of the night)and liked Aubrey from the start even though he was bad in the first book.It was great to see him be the good guy in this book.Ok basicaly this book is about this girl named Jessica Who writes horror books about vampires. She doesn't think that vampires exsist and thats where the trouble starts. See vampires really DO exsisit and she's writting the truth about them.BIG problem. In telling her stories some of the vampires have come across as weak. Thats a very bad thing because vampires don't like seeming weak.So Aubrey go's to check it out.Well he gets a big suprise. He meets her at school where Jessica is an outsider. He detects a slight vampiric arua around her but doesn't know why. She immediately trusts him not knowing that he's a vampire. A witch/Vampire hunter/killer shows up at her school too. And tries to keep her away from Alex/Aybrey But fails because Jessica doesn't like her.Well in good time Jessica learns that what she's writing IS real and that Aubrey IS a vampire and that she's in some BIG trouble. First she thinks that Aubrey is going to kill her. But she's wrong again he's fallen in love with her and is trying to protect her from a vampire named Fala. Aubrey wants to turn jessica into a vampire but can't because thats what Jessica wants and if he does what she wants she will be a VERY weak Vampire.Jessica finds out that her mother became a vampire by will while she was pregnant with Jessica So Jessica was kept alive on vampire blood for 20 years. her mother was brought to ife by a vampire hunter because the hunter wanted to save jessica. But by being kept alive for 20 years on vampire blood is why she's slightly Vampiric and thats where her vampiric arua come from. Her So anyway Fala attaks jessica and almost kills her. But Aubrey and the Witch save her. Jessica drew Fala's blood which means that Aubrey can now turn her into a vampire because in fighting Fala she fought for her life. Aubrey asks Jessica if she would like to become a vampire. She thinks it over and decides she wants to be one. He turns her and the book pretty much ends. But you can tell that she's gonna be very strong. I hope the auther continues the Jessica/Aubrey thing. So Amelia if you ever read this I think you have a ton of talent and and I hope you continue this series.
Rating: Summary: More flawed than you think Review: I allow a certain amount of leniency towards this book, seeing as how the books's target is marketed towards a bunch of thirteen-year-old Wicca wannabes. Not the most discerning literary audience, if you know what I mean. But regardless of the age of the audience or the age of the author-I don't expect a lowering of standards of writing just because she happens to be a younger author. So I do not compliment her on "good grammar"; that is something that is absolutely mandatory for a published work and therefore I do not even consider that as a good quality of her book. The characters in the book are strangely shallow, vapid, and childish for beings that are supposed to be thousands of years old. It makes no sense for them to talk like that. If Ms. Rhodes were perhaps more experienced in dealings with human nature, she would percieve that living an unheard-of thousand years would age her characters to feel utter and complete apathy for most of the silly melodrama of this book. They sound like teens to me. Secondly, the main character, Jessica Allodola, has a major literary flaw: You can't relate with her. Someone who is utterly remorseless about killing people and barely gives a damn about her own adopted mother being killed-very little of the human population would find that likable or easy to relate with. The only thing teens would emphasize with is her outsider status within the small town. Her choice of words could be better. Sometimes it sounds as though she is trying too hard. Maybe laying off the adverbs is a good idea. Also, phrases like,"Round moon," are repetetive. Would you coin the word strawberry with an adjective so obvious as "red"? Other than these criticisms of her flaws (which, in time, I hope will be corrected) I think it is a passable story and book; certainly with some good hooks to engage the teen reader. It has enough substance and interest in it to be popular in the mainstream. However, I have a feeling that when her audience grows up and matures, they will outgrow this book. And that is truly the test of an author's success; not how many books they sell, but whether their books stand the test of time. Hopefully better than those vampires she writes about.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Book Review: This was an awesome book. I can't believe Amelia wrte this when she was 15. I read a review in Seventeen magazine and I then bought it.
Rating: Summary: I love Aubrey! Review: I love this book. It is much better than Amelia's first novel, and Aubrey is so awesome. Aubrey, Aubrey...what else can I say? Get the book! Aubrey... ;-)
Rating: Summary: By far the book written in the last decade for all ages Review: I have heard many reviews for this book, some of the are very true but some of them shock and confuse me,that is just my opinion. But I believe that 'Demon in My View' is the most inspiring book for teen because it tell you to follow your heart and most of all, that reading and writing is power and those who read and write have the power! This statement proves that it is true when Jessica's stories that she writes have a power over her very existence because some very angry vampires come to have revenge on Ash Night (Jessica's auther name). And during this time of heroism, fear, adventure and amazingly love, a familiar characters are mentioned. Aubrey is one of the vampiers that play a very importaint role in Jessica's adventure. So saying this I very much suggest that you find out for yourself how you feel about this breathtaking story.
Rating: Summary: Promising Review: She did fine. You can't expect a girl her age to write as good as Anne Rice. She needs time to develop and perfect her talent. Don't go ripping on her just because she's young. Anybody who thinks she's a horrible writer must be jealous 'cause they can't do as good. Being a teenage writer myself, it's hard to break into the writing field. Plus, being as critical as I am about my own books, I'm never satisfied, so of course it's going to be hard for us teen writers to break into the mold, considering we aren't in college yet. And the adults who criticize, cut her some slack. She tried. And, all in all, it was an enjoyable read. I know I had fun reading it. Aubrey should beat the poop out of Fala. I hated her. She seemed like such a you-know-what!
Rating: Summary: my thoughts Review: I've read both of her books, I found Demon more enjoyable, plus you can tell she's getting older as you read how the characters interact. I believe just about every one saw a resemblance beteen Jessica and Amelia. I thought it was nice that Aubrey seemed to mature some, and wasn't quite so arrogant and self centered (not that he wasn't fun that way too). I'm counting down to September.
