Summary: And we think we have it bad
Review: Everyone knows what it is like to receive a Chain Letter. Both annoying and intriguing--no time to make and mail ten copies; I still wonder if they really work. Even worse is when you get a chain e-mail. Anyway, we should consider ourselves lucky. Friends receive a Chain Letter that tells them to perform deeds that are not characteristic of them. They think it is crazy, a tasteless joke. But their mindset is to do what they are told. Do not risk anything. Of course people will compare this to an awful book titled "I Know What You Did Last Summer". The ideas are similar, but "Chain Letter" is better--maybe because I read it first. "I Know What You Did Last Summer" was slow and boring. Plus I figured out who the bad guy was after three chapters. I read the last chapter and laughed at the predictability of it. "Chain Letter" kept me guessing, which I prefer. Ultimately, it is only a set up for the far superior "Chain Letter 2"--a minor debate among some Pike fans. (As far as I know, I'm the only fan waiting for #3.) "Chain Letter" is a good change of pace for Pike fans who need a change of pace from the horror. Sit back and enjoy.

Summary: A mysterious story, not knowing what will happen next.
Review: This is a good book by Christopher Pike. I could not put this book down after I started to read it. It takes place in L.A. California. It is a good book for people who like mysteries. It has a group of teenagers that are seniors in high school. Some person wrote a chain letter about how he knew that the teenagers buried someone last summer. The teenagers were trying to figure out who wrote the chain letter.

Summary: "Do Not Ignore This Letter... Or You Will Suffer..."
Review: "Chain Letter" is somewhat similar to Lois Duncan's "I Know What You Did Last Summer," involving a hit and run, and Pike's two books: "Last Act" (relating to a high school play) and "Weekend" (similar group ending). Prior to receiving a threatening chain letter, all seven friends (Alison Parker, Fran Darey, Brenda Paxson, Kipp Coughlan, Tony Hunt, Neil Hurly, and Joan Zuchlensky) were involved in a hit and run. They buried the body of the anonymous man in the California desert, and a short time later, they began receiving instructions from someone ("the Caretaker") who knows about their past. And if they don't follow these orders--like desecrating the school mascot, purposely flunking a test, publicly embarrassing several teachers, streaking naked at school, and burning down the school--they could all end up dead.

Christopher Pike is, without a doubt, one of my favorite YA writers. I've been reading and re-reading his books for about 15 years now. Though his books are geared for teenagers, they're intelligent and complex enough to satisfy most adult suspense readers as well (speaking as one). The pace in "Chain Letter" isn't quite as smooth as some of his others, though, but it's still a pretty good teen thriller. Worth reading if you're a Pike fan, in addition to the sequel: "Chain Letter 2: The Ancient Evil."

Summary: Okay...
Review: Christopher is an amazing writer, but, if you're a true Pike fan, you've noticed that the end is the same as "Slumber Party" and sort of liek "Weekend." I won't say anything more, but those three books have a similar and boring style. You would know what I mean if you really studied it. Anyway, Chain Letter was amazing...sort of. My friend told me that the sequel is better. I have yet to make that tangible. This book was sort of boring. The back of the book says that there are deaths, but not one person died...sort of. I'm not a carnage fan, but the book shouldn't lie. And the teens just went through these dares like tissues. It was sort of boring. Like, Brenda tells all the teachers to go to hell--which was hysterical--and then it's over. Whoopdy doo. My favorite part, though, was when the Caretaker attacked Alison at her house. That scared the hell out of me. But I didn't like what happened at the end of the attack. It was so "America's Funniest Home Videos" -like. You'll see. Anyway, this was really interesting, funny, and scary. It is no doubt that Christopher Pike has true talent.

Summary: Chain Letter
Review: This was one of Christopher Pike's best works to date. The struggle to save their lives while upholdind their dignities and morals is poignantly shown in this horror masterpiece that starts down the "I Know What You Did Last Summer" road, and manages not only to surpass that mediocre movie, but leave it in the dust. Pike's usually ever present supernatural twist is not involved in this book, but there is so much hinted mistery, you forget to miss it. Far less bloody than most of Christopher Pike's books, it is, nonetheless, chilling, scary, and NOT FOR PRETEENS. Other than that, read it, you won't regret it.

Summary: One of the Best Books Ever Written!!!!
Review: This book was the second Christopher Pike book but it won't be the last. From reading this book and Last Act I think I'm perminatly hooked on his books! The end of the book I was very suprised to find out who the caretaker was. It was right in front of me and I didn't expect that person for a second. I highly recomend you to read this if you are a horror/mystery kind of reader!

Summary: Mystery, suspense, danger involving teens are in this book.
Review: I would recommend the Chain Letter by Christopher Pike to other teenagers because it is about being in high school, relationships between friends and has a very suspenseful plot. Teenagers would understand this book and relate to the feelings and the activities that take place during school and after school hours. If you enjoy thrillers and murder mysteries this book would appeal to you because it has all that and more. It is a little bit confusing because as the story is told it skips back and forth from present to past. If you have ever gotten a chain letter you understand how it makes you think about if it is really true and what would happen if you break the chain and how your name was even picked for the chain letter. Most chain letters are for something good to happen to you but this chain letter requires the characters to do scary, hurtful, destructive and embarassing things. If you liked the movie "I Know What You Did Last Summer" you would definitely enjoy the Chain Letter. This is not suitable for young children because it is scary and has scenes that are not appropriate for young children. It is suitable for those mature young adults and adults who enjoy thrills, suspense and murder mysteries. The story takes place in a small town with a group of seven teenagers who are friends. They party together and are in the school play. One evening they witnessed or could have been responsible for the death of a man out in the middle of nowhere. The identity of the man is unknown and group decided not to report the incident to the police or tell anyone outside of the group. Somehow someone gets ahold of this information and uses it against them. A chain letter is started and it asks the group members to do strange things. The only people who are on the list to receive the letter are the people who were there the night of the murder. Everyone in the group is suspecting one another and questioning them on why they are doing this to them. The demands start off small, then get dangerous and sometimes impossible for the characters to do. Their very lives are in danger and by whom? The best aspects of the book are the demands that the seven characters have to acomplish in order to send the chain letter to the next person. Also the person that is sending the clues is very sneaky because he or she puts them in the classified section of the town newspaper. I like that the person that sends the clues makes it very public and relates each demand specifically to the person on the list. This makes it nearly impossible to guess who is behind the chain letter demands. I think the person who is sending the letter picked an interesting code name by signing "Caretaker" at the end of the letter and each clue. I don't like how the books skips from the present to the past in some parts. Also, I didn't like that they haven't told how the man died in the first half of the book! Overall, this was a good book.

Summary: An exciting and sad ending
Review: A review by Daisy
Seven teenagers committed a horrible crime last summer. They promised each other not to tell a soul about this dark deep secret. But some how somebody has discovered their secret and they are after them. One by one of them they start getting chain letters making them do dares that nobody would even think of doing on a sleepover. If they didn't attempted or did their dares things were going to start happening, bad things. Bad things did happen to some of them because they couldn't bare to go through such embarrassing dares, and they refused on doing them. They started getting hurt and some started missing. Some of them did their dares not wanting to get hurt but wanting this horrible nightmare to be over as soon as possible. Alison the main character tries to figure this mystery that is killing one by one of her good friends. It could even cost her and her friends lives. This book brings exciting parts and too much detail on horrible hurtful seines. This book has a very exciting and sad ending.
