Rating: Summary: Great Serial Novel...... Review: After reading "The Green Mile," I was trying to, look for a serial novel I noticed I found "The Blackstone Chronicles," I did look at it I then decided to wait. So I went to the library and got Parts 1-4 and I was amazed John did a great job discrbing the characters I noticed it was, going to be ABC-TV Mini-Series I haven't seen it so...hope they air it.I liked this book it scares, you and I was horrified so if you loved The Green Mile you'll like this.
Rating: Summary: Suspenseful, psychological chiller! Review: After reading this I wished I had another dose to fill my pallet! I ate it up! Leaving me with a feeling of perhaps, I lived in this fictional town, yet something was missing. All I could do was hear myself saying "Mr. Saul..I'm stll hungry!..Please make some more of that delicious thriller!"
Rating: Summary: Entertaining to say the least Review: Although it gets off to a rocky, "unscary" start, the Blackstone Chronicles is truly an amazing collection. The town of Blackstone's past begins to mercilessly haunt its present-day citizens as odd objects appear in their homes. Tale by tale, the tension begins to build and suspense is delightfully unbearable at some points in the story. Although the first three chronicles have shaky plots and boring characters, the final ones are a stark contrast. If nothing else, the innocent romance that develops between the characters Oliver and Rebeccas is very sweet, and adds to the texture of the Chronicles. I highly recommend this book to anyone, and anyone reading it should NOT be discouraged by the dullness of the first stories.
Rating: Summary: A Great Ride!... too predictable... Review: Although the format of the book was well used (as in "The Green Mile") it was too predictable since the beginning where we see Oliver Metcalf experiencing the same blackouts Melissa Holloway did in "The Second Child." Also, as I did, Oliver knew the identity of the "Dark Figure" by the middle of the story. Anyway, it was fun to wait and see who would receive the next gift, how they would react and what would happen to them. If you want a late-at-night kinda book read one chronicle a day and then Saturday nigth you can sleep well.
Rating: Summary: What a lousy ending Review: At the beginning, I felt really attracted to this book. The first story "An eye for an eye: the doll" was really scary and captivating. Somehow, from that story on, the whole book started to lose its momentum. It became quite predictable and sometimes really bad written.
What disappoints me the most is the ending. What a lousy ending, and it's a shame because the ending of a book is what stays always in the mind of the reader. The ending was absolutely BAD: with thousands of loose ends and thousands of incoherencies. Suddenly, from chaos, everything went to peace... What's that? I'm really disappointed. The only good part of the book was part I ("the doll").
Rating: Summary: I was on the edge of my seat! Review: From start to finish, cover to cover this was by far one of the best series of novels I've ever read. Once I started I couldn't put the book down, and once, finished...I had to rush to get the next in the series. I was scared and excited and WOW! Great story, wonderfully obscure characters and a surprise ending! Who could want more? ME!!
Rating: Summary: An excellent reading escape... Review: From the moment I picked up the book, I could not put it down. I found myself reading more and more of the book everyday, trying desperately to find out what (or who) was next. This reading experience left me feeling as if I were there, in the flesh (crawling flesh, of course!). Therefore, making this book that much more enjoyable. I enjoyed dangling on the line between the known and the not-so-known, the real and the not-so-real. Nice and scary...
Rating: Summary: Hard to put down Review: From the moment you step into the town of Blackstone, you feel as though you have lived there all your life. Saul makes the characters come to life as few can. You can feel yourself being thrust back in time as Oliver comes painfully close to realizing his past. As each progressively more bizzare catastrophe befalls the citizens of Blackstone, the reader is within arm's reach of solving the mystery of Blackstone. In true horror/mystery fashion, the suspense is worth the wait. For fans of John Saul, this one is no disappointment.
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: I am a huge fan of John Saul. This series of books kept me hanging til the very end. I have yet to read a John Saul novel that has disappointed me. The Blackstone Chronicles is a must read for any horror fan. When your done with these chronicles and are wanting more I highly suggest ALL other John Saul novels. You won't be disappointed!
