Summary: A great haunted house tale!
Review: I love good old haunted house stories, and this novel by Tamara Thorne was certainly rewarding. Good characters, plot and pacing. There was lots of creepy atmosphere with some new spins on the haunting activity. I found it to be truly a "page turner". My only complaint is how graphic some of the descriptions of ghostly seductions were -- I have two early-teenagers who love ghostly books and who would have loved this one, but some of the scenes are inappropriate for young-adult readers.

Summary: highly enjoyable
Review: i picked this book out randomly, i was in the mood for a good ghost story. this book definitely was that. haunted house books tend to be hokey, but not this one. among other things, i was hooked by the writing style by the second page (this rarely happens) and couldn't put the book down. i felt drained when it ended and had become so comfortable with the well drawn characters that i missed them when it was over. i loved how visual the writing was, you could almost feel like you were there. if you enjoy suspense stories, this one's for you. but if you are looking for a scarry book, this isn't it.

Summary: Best Horror Book I Have Ever Read
Review: I have read several of horror books which involve people moving into haunted houses. I loved this one because all of the other ones I have read are too drawn out. This particular goes right to the point and not only is scary but has interesting characters. I loved it. I hope this author writes more horror books in the near future. Her style is the best yet!

Summary: Pretty darn creepy
Review: I've been desparate for some good scarry reading and I've been disappointed alot lately. It seems like there aren't very many good "subtle" horror/ghost stories, that make the hair raise on the back of your neck. Most are obvious slasher types, and I really miss the creepy ghost stories. I was not disappointed when I read this. It made be think twice about turning out the lights!

Summary: Pure Entertainment!
Review: If you love horror and are looking for an entertaining book to relax with after a long day at work, this is one! It is terribly chilling, disturbing, and oddly erotic at the same time. It includes some sexual, yet gory scenes that I never could have imagined. If you like your horror to read like a philosophy textbook, don't buy it! It has a "young adult" feel while the content is decidedly adult. But, if after a long day you would like a horror tale that is pure entertainment, this one reads like a breath of fresh air.

Summary: A FRESH NEW VOICE IN HORROR!
Review: I just recently discovered this author and I have to say, she's made me a fan. I don't know about the rest of you, but I've had it with King and Koontz. Their stuff just isn't as good as it used to be. Do they not care or are they only doing it for the money? This author really kept me turning the pages. I see that she has another book coming out next month. I hope there will be more books coming after that because when it comes to new horror authors there are very few new ones to choose from. I still like John Saul, though.

Summary: NOT NEARLY AS GOOD AS IT COULD HAVE BEEN
Review: I had a hard time getting through this one. The charactersseem like cardboard and stereotypical. There was way too muchdescription and not enough chills. I really couldn't relate much to the characters or the plot for that matter. The old haunted house routine is being written to death. ...My two favorites are Peter Straub's Ghost Story and Dark Side: The Haunting by J. M. Barlog and this one is no comparison. You want some chills, check out those instead.

Summary: If Harlequin published horrror....
Review: Ok, let me get this straight. A suddenly famous, heartbroken, somewhat bumbling yet quite lovable horror author, moves with his sarcastic, overly mature teen daughter into the quaint town of Red Cay, California. There they take up residence in an infamous haunted house so that said writer can gather info for his next bestseller. Sceptical writer and daughter (David and Amber Masters) then meet up with supernatural beings that soon convince them that the house's reputation is deserved. THEN we find out that not only is the house haunted, it is haunted by Elizabeth and Christabel Baudy (mother and daughter). A century ago, Christabel's daddy, a voodoo priest, taught her all his voodoo secrets so that she became a voodoo priestess. THEN while still alive, Christabel begins a very petulent reign of terror ending in the massacre of several people and the suicide of her mother. Flash to present day when the Masters family has to cope with and overcome the increasingly powerful Christabel. Throw in some new-agers who channel spirits, snoopy small-town gossips, and the slow but charming local boy who is especially sensitive to the spirits. Are you with me so far?

I like a good ghost story. I read some positive reviews of this novel, the description seemed interesting, so I thought I would give it a try. I must say that it was a chore for me to continue after the first 50 pages of this nearly 480-page book. There are some amusing and interesting segments of the novel; I especially like the opening sequence with the two curious boys exploring the haunted lighthouse. However, each character is rather one-dimensional, playing to stereotype. The evil spirit overall just isn't that scary; she was a lusty creature in life and spends most of the novel as a succubus for David. I found the novel taking a great deal of time to explain very unimportant details of each and every event in the history of the town and the house. The end climax is quick and disappointing. I like the premise of this story. But it gets lost in the unending telling of simple daily events in the characters' lives. Unfortunately, for me, the novel never lives up to its potential. The novel does have a sweet love story; it has some humor; it has bodice-ripping; it has scheming matchmakers. Actually, take away some of the gore, and HAUNTED just might make a decent romance novel.
