Summary: Too preposterous to be believed
Review: I love a good adventure story, be it science fiction, fantasy, or even a murder mystery. So I started MEG with high expectations. The monster in this book is pretty far-fetched, but I thought "Oh, what the heck!" and did my usual suspension of belief. The hero of the story goes through the usual travails with great pluck in his pursuit of the monster shark. So I stuck with it though my suspension was stretching pretty far. The final part was so preposterous, though, that it became laughable and totally, but totally, unbelievable, no matter how far I stretched my unbelief. If the author intended this to be made into a movie, he can forget it. A big disappointment

Summary: A great guy book!
Review: I picked this book up on a whim, and couldn't put it down. Not great literature, but plently of action. Going into the belly of the beast was a bit too much, however

Summary: Don't laugh, it worked for Crichton...
Review: Yes, the characters were one dimensional. Yes, we could all see the biblical metaphor coming from page one. Yes, Alten's place research might have been as scanty as his characters' dress (shorts and bathing suits out at the Farallons? Yikes!) But never forget that when faced with a choice between a great story poorly written, and a mediocre story brilliantly written...publishers will take the great story every time. Besides, this formula works quite consistently for Crichton. The main character is the beast, and her character is just about as developed as she is

Summary: A great escape!
Review: Steve Alten's book "Meg" is a fast paced page turner from beginning to end. Disagreeing with many of the reviews, not all novels need to have well-developed characters to work. The focus and thrill of this book is the megalodon. The ending of this story may seem unbelievable, but it's fun because Alten dared to say "what if." Overall, this book is a great escape. I finished this tale wondering what is lurking in the unknown depths of the sea

Summary: Large fish encounters mankind with great fun resulting.
Review: Like Sienfield, you know the situation, but there are great yuks (pun intended) during the show. And before you know it the show is over, and you say that was fun

Summary: This book should be printed on more absorbent paper!
Review: No doubt the factual errors sprayed throughout this work will pass right over the heads of the masses. A way out plot made unbelievable by an infantile author still struggling to understand simple constructs. A complete waste of time. Great for reading on the toilet

Summary: simply more "dumbing down" of literacy.
Review: An obvious pot-boiler, this "Meg"-a-flop uses every poorly contrived method in the author's grab-bag to grind out a 200+ page piece of trivia. At least Kirkus Reviews correctly names the site of all the breathless action...it's Marianas Trench, not Mariana Trench Hey, if the author could not even give a correct location then I suppose he can be forgiven for not giving us something more than mediocrity

Summary: Engaging and entertaining, good summertime fun
Review: " Meg " is a good first work from a novice author. The charachters are flat and barely developed, but in a book like this they are secondary to the true star, the sixty foot Megalodon, extinct ( we hope ) ancestor of today's great white shark. The body of the story is well crafted, though the climax seemed obviously written with the future movie in mind and adds an unwelcome dose of incredulity to an otherwise concievable ( but just barely ) storyline. I liked the book for what it was: an exciting story. Steve Alten shows promise as a new author; I found myself wishing he had held off on " Meg " until his third or fourth book so he could fully develop his style. Next summer we will thrill to the spectacle of the mammoth shark on the big screen, but for now enjoy it as it is- novel entertainment

Summary: A wonderful bone-chilling novel about prehistoric sharks!
Review: Intro: I am a 11 year old boy typing this review at a coffee store in Traverse City. Review: Meg is a great book but you could tell that it was the author's first book. My favorite part was when Meg attacked the Nautilus. The part I do not understand is why Maggie married Jonas not Bud. I love the idea that there will be sequel.

Summary: MEG: A novel of unintended laughter
Review: Much to silly and the author is way too green. The plot is so far out that you can't get into it because you can't believe it. It's more like a goofy short story than was puffed up to a novel size with large print and plenty of chapters
