Summary: ****
Review: "Meg" is full of fast-paced action and has a very interesting and believeable plot.

It's about a paleobiologist, named Jonas Taylor, who, during a deep sea dive, panicked, because he saw a glow that seemed to be some sort of creature & was the size of a truck, but it was only the creature's head. So, immediately, he started to surface the sub, but the sub rose too fast and it was not able to decompress properly and two crew members died.

Because of that incident, he lost his reputation as a reliable deep-sea pilot which partially wrecked a marriage with a fame-hungry wife, (who died later on anyway. One bad part of the story was when the author actually made Taylor feel deathly sorry that his selfish, unloyal wife, who actually sounded pretty hot, died.), who was sleeping with his best friend, and made him change careers to deeply studying a thought-to-be-extinct creature, who thrived in the Late Cretacious Period, known as Charcharodon mega! lodon-->abbr. Megalodon-->abbr. Meg, which he believes he saw in that deep-sea dive. Later on, a Japanese Oceanologist asks him to figure out why some deep-sea probes failed, which means he has to go back to the same place he saw the Meg earlier and "face his fears", and when Taylor goes down, he sees the Megalodon again, in fact he sees two. The first one he sees is killed, but the second Megalodon, female, is brought to the surface, enveloped in the male's bloodstream, and wreaks havoc all over the Central Pacific Ocean.

The book is not bad at all for the author's first book, however, at some times the book may seem corny, because of the author's inexperience, however if the author comes out with more books, they will, most definitely, be improved and funner to read.

Summary: Got time to burn? Bored? This is the book for you.
Review: I was stuck in an airport waiting for a delayed flight and in desperation for something to do picked up Meg. Oh dear. A note to anyone else who comes up with a great idea for a novel but can't write very well: Do research and get help. If you're going to write a book that's going to increase shark paranoia and contribute to having even more sharks senselessly slaughtered then at least do a good job. I was less offended by the high school writting style as I was the lack of and/or inacuracy of detail. Adding insult to injury was the statement at the back of the book that research had been done. Come on - who are we trying to kid? To his credit Alten didn't include the standard sex sceen. But hey, if you need a book you can finish in 5 hours and not have to take very seriously, this is the book for you!

Summary: Prehistoric terror meets modern day man in this thriller.
Review: Excellent novel by Alten. I first encountered this book on audio tape format. While driving from Virginia to Ohio Alten had me gripping my steering wheel in classic white knuckled fashion. Each chapter holds something new for the reader; something which will make the eyebrows rise and the nerves tingle. Just when you think you've got it all figured out, Alten blows you fantastically away. Alten's knowledge about the high tech industry of deep oceanic research combined with his research on sharks is remarkble and matched only by his ability to put the two together. An incredible tale of terror, 'Meg' keeps 'Jaws' in the kiddie pools. Read Read Read...

Summary: Unfortunately, there's no choice for zero stars
Review: First, let me say that I appreciate well-written stories of terror and suspense. Unfortunately, this is not one. This is the worst waste of perfectly good paper ever bound together in book form. When I took the book back to the bookstore where I purchased it, they took it, no questions asked, telling me that "Yeah, we've been getting a lot of these back." Mr. Alten's book is a perfect example of publishing greed at its lowest form. This book was obviously sold to the publisher on concept, not content, because the writing is worse than amateurish and the plot is thinner than a 3-panel Bazooka Joe comic. I just had the good fortune of meeting a woman associated with someone who published this book. She said that the person who made the deal with Mr. Alten had been fired over it. Maybe there is hope for the publishing industry. Mr. Alten, you're not a writer. Unfortunately, a moron handed you some cash and told you that you were. You've made your money. ! The charade is over. Please don't embarass yourself, the publishing industry, and book lovers everywhere by continuing to write. Frankly, I hope that those who wrote positive reviews for this book were thinking it might give them a leg up on the prize. Please people, don't reward authors and publishers who perpetuate this tripe.

Summary: This book is thrilling, and keeps you turning the pages!
Review: Meg by Steve Alten was exciting. I was amazed at how real his theory could be, books aren't just for entertainment, they are the begining of "What ifs" This book along with others I've read tell me this Megolodon could actually be. This book not only scared me, but sparked my knowledge key, learning about this historic creature, stunned me. It's worse than Jaws, bigger, and more vicious. Meg was awsome, I was so engulfed in this book I couldn't put it down! I recomnd this book to any avid or nonavid reader, it will keep you on your toes, and make you think what lurks under you when you swim, what was that small flash of light?

Summary: Was this bad? Most definitely.
Review: The only redeeming qualities of this book were the large print and short plot. Even though the story had lots of action, the plot was terrible, the allusions to the bible were trite, uninteresting, and far from thought provoking, and the similarity to Jaws was all too present. Further, while the story may have some scientific basis, as a whole the plot was unbelievable. I do not recommend this book.

Summary: Not bad for a 1st book
Review: ... I felt the shark was relying on emotion more than instinct in certain areas of the book. Of course, with the main character named "Jonas", it was easy to predict his "close" encounter with Meg.
