Summary: I can't believe I am admitting to reading this book.
Review: Well I don't think I should waste too much time reviewing the book. For those of you who need a book to read there are plenty out there that you don't need to resort to reading this rubbish. I was actually offended by the lack of creative writing and thought put into developing the story line. What was a good idea became a script for a B movie. The scene with the helicopters was laughable. The sad part is the fact the author was trying to be suspenseful. I think if the author had let the shark eat all of the characters it would have been a little better. I think it is a sad statement that this author was actually published, but I guess it goes to show that anything can be published. But I think I agree with the gentleman who said he wishes there was a choice for no stars, this book deserves it.

Summary: Good idea: terrible execution
Review: Please disregard my earlier review which shows 5 stars: I hit the wrong button. This is the worst novel of any kind I have ever read. Alten cannot write, and his claim to have done extensive research is laughable. A couple of examples: there are no hydrothermal vents in the Marianas trench, and recommissioning a 40-year-old submarine would take years, if it could be done at all. Authors should be encouraged, though: if Alten can get a million-dollar advance for this dreck, we're all going to get rich.

Summary: My favourite!
Review: MEG is one of my favourite books! I read it a few months ago, and have just picked up Extinct. I am fascinated by the Megalodon - I did a speech for my school on it... MEG inspired me. I can't wait until the movie comes out...

Summary: Fast paced action, good visualization.
Review: I thought this book was a good read. The description of the prehistoric "shark" was well written, providing excellent visualization.

I disagree with some of the other reviews stating a high-school writing style, etc. I thought it was easy to read and not too engrossed in boring details.

A good "in-flight" book.

Summary: Wow, just wow.
Review: Ok, I admit his writing skills aren't as great as Michael Chrichtons' , but hey, he knows it, thats why he did the smart thing and didn't try to teach you anything or try to make you understand the characters. Instead he filled the gaps with action , vivid detail, and startling visual images. Wow, just wow. A must read.

Summary: A wonderful and scary book
Review: I think the book was amazing. The ending was very clever and the book itself is brilliant. It's a page-turner from the very begining to the end. If you liked reading Michael Crichton's Jurrasic Park and loved the movie Jaws, this is the book for you.

Summary: Pretty good beach book
Review: If you're looking for great literature, keep going. If you want a really good story about weird things eating people in the water, read Peter Benchly's "White Shark" (renamed 'Creature' for that horrible TV movie). But if you want a fast-paced, exciting book to kill some time at the beach, this is the one.

Summary: Just plain scary
Review: It was extremely intense from the first written scene and stayed that way to the end. It was the combination of fantasy and the possibility of reality that grabbed me.

Summary: The next Blockbuster hit!!!!!
Review: Greatest book I've read all summer! Very exciting and nerve racking...you never know what the Meg will do next! I couldn't put it down! Definately worth your time!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Hope Bantam and Alten can spend their money guilt-free
Review: What a good rough draft for a screenplay! Unfortunately this is supposed to be a novel. There is absolutely no character development within the story. Do I care about any one of these characters? No, because I don't know much about any of them!! There is no depth to the plot, which follows the very same lines of Jurassic Park and Jaws. The main difference between this story and the other two is that the "monster" in MEG is pretty darn boring!! I sure hope Bantam and Alten can live with themselves after selling out big time to write a "supposed" novel. What is obviously just the basis of a movie. A very simple, predictable and boring movie.
