Summary: dislike it by all means, but for the right reasons!
Review: So what if Alten doesn't know jack squat about marine biology? There's nothing wrong with novels being the product of one's imagination. The only problem with Meg - unfortunately a big problem - is that Alten can't write. Amazing (and sad) how the in-flight reading crowd considers this to be a completely irrelevant flaw!

Summary: This didn't keep me out of the water.
Review: Having been interested in the Megaladon for many years, after reading that Peter Benchley originally wanted the shark in jaws to be a Megaladon. When I read that this book, "Meg", had been released, I rushed to the library to buy it.

Although I found the book to be fast paced, I discovered it was a predictable book. The characters weren't developed, and you really didn't care for them.

When Jonas' wife was devoured by the antagonist it didn't have the same impact as it could have if the reader would have either liked her, or hated her more. In fact the reader is probably sure that when Jonas discovers she is cheating on him she is going to be "taken care of." Why? Because she deserves it.

Although the under water descripions are interesting, there isn't enough to take the reader into the underwater world of the Western Pacific.

Other problems are caused by the invincibility of the "shark", and the sensationalism of the story line.

One of the horrors of "Jaws" was that it created a sense of realism that captured and scared the reader. "Meg" did neither.

Summary: This is a fun Jaws-type novel, but don't look for depth.
Review: Alton borrows HEAVILY from Benchley and Crichton for this novel. It is fast paced, fun and even a bit scary at times, but I didn't not find myself caring too much about the characters. Overall, it was somewhat predictable (with an escape that is nothing short of silly).

Summary: predictable yet entertaining
Review: I enjoyed this book for a couple of reasons. First, I considered a "quick-read"--not laden with gobs of research or anything. It didn't take long to finish. Secondly, after reading the first couple chapters I basically predicted 90% of the book's later events...and that's good and bad, I guess. If not ruined in screenplay form like Michael Crichton's "Congo" was, this could be an entertaining movie.

Summary: Un-original with poor creativity!
Review: (two half stars- one for the un-originality, and one for the repetitiveness!)No doubt a first time novelist here! Interesting beginning and some good gore, but it's straight downhill from there. Very predictable, "hollywood" action with a struggling plot and frustrating disbelief. Oh, by the way- one terrible ending! I wish the damn fish would have eaten Steven Alten (do not stray again from physical therapy, or whatever your professional career is)! It made me sad to see such a great creature destroyed by such a poor author.

Summary: The Best Book I Ever Read!
Review: This book is just the most exiting, the most awesome, and just plain the best book I, a 13 year old, ever read. By the way I dont read much at all. I finished this BIG book in 4 days.

Summary: FAST PACED EXCITEMENT
Review: I really enjoyed the book and the scientific information given about these prehistoric sharks. The story was an easy read and was a real page turner. The excitement started from page one! The only thing I was dissapointed in was the finale. I think "Jonas in the belly of the whale or shark rather" was just a bit too unrealistic and a little too much. Overall, the book was a fun read.

Summary: It was good.
Review: I read Jaws twenty years ago. Actually, I thought the title was "Jews", and I said "WOW" a book about Jews thats great. I read the whole book and not one Jew. There was a shark though.

Summary: It is like a candy bar that never ends.
Review: Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror. This may just be the greatest book in the history of mankind. Yes, the Bible is truth and fulfilling, but Meg has sharks that glow in the dark. Your life will change, and you will know that Meg is the prophet of all sharks.

Summary: Big on fish, short on story
Review: While the basic idea for this story is fairly bulletproof, several things got in the way of it really being good. (1) When writing about a theme we've all seen before (big fish, big dinosaurs, big monkeys, etc.) the basic story is really has to be more sophisticated. (2) Even though it's fiction, the research needs to be better. Alten's brought a prehistoric fish into modern times. Note what it can and cannot do (be more realistic). (3) Now, let's work on that dialogue..
